Questions, Questions and More Questions

I actually ate one of the huge sundaes pictured in MacMadame's post on a recent cruise.  It was my one Premium dessert of the whole week and the only sweet thing I ate that day.  It was fun, decadent and delicious!  It also wasn't as big as it looks.  It did have 4 scoops of gelato, lots of whipped cream and candy (which I saved for my granddaughter).  The embellishments at the top of the glass are actually pre-frozen  onto  the outside and difficult to eat even if you wanted to.

We didn't try the premium dessert cakes but we encountered a couple in an elevator who were bringing them back to their cabin.  I thought we should have done that - the cakes looked better than any other dessert we had that day.

In my opinion, the main question is what other medical insurance do your have. Medicare provides no coverage outside the United States. Some Medicare supplements and Medicare Advantage plans provide primary coverage outside the United States, and some do not. For example, my Tricare for Life provides primary coverage anywhere that Medicare does not cover, so I believe Princess Vacation Protection is adequate for DW and me. Check the coverage of your other policies.

Enormous slices of cake sound good!  Getting very excited about this trip....

DW and I thought the Black Forest cake was delicious. The size of the piece of cake they served us was more than enough for two people. With all the other deserts available, I wouldn't have bought it without the package, but it was delicious.

So, another question....

In my research it says that you can locate another person by using the app/medallion......

My husband has a tendency to wander off....and then gets mad at me for some reason....so I end up staying stationery (ie....I can't change machines in the casino...because he won't be able to locate me).

This location feature sounds ideal.  How does it work?  Is it simple to use (he's technologically challenged).

You can locate people in your booking. You can select another passenger by name and request access to their location, and they receive a notice in their app to accept or reject the access. As long as he has his medallion, you can locate him. He will have to have his phone and sign in to the app to locate you. I don't know how easy he would find that because I don't know how technologically challenged, he is. You may want to show him how once you get onboard.

Thanks!  I'll go thru a few trial "hide and seeks" with him....lol.

It is easy. Just go to the locate feature on your smart device and it will show the location of those linked to you. You can also do the same thing on one of the large screens by every elevator bank and around the ship if like me you do not carry your phone around with you. Of course, the person you are trying to locate has to have their medallion with them. If you have any questions just visit the medallion help desk.

Complete all your pre-boarding information on line or in the app. U.S./Canada residents can have their medallion mailed to them, $10 fee. Fee is waived if you have the plus or premier fare. You can also select to pick up your medallion at the pier. It's a few minute detour.

We have Princess Plus and were charged the mailing fee.

Was it actually charged to your credit card or did you just have to enter the credit card info? I had Princess Premier on my last sailing and when I ordered the medallions, I had to enter credit card information, but one the medallions actually shipped, my card was never charged.

I haven't looked at the particulars recently.  As I remember it is probably not enough for really good evacuation, major medical etc. costs.  We usually buy an annual policy, such as Geo Blue, for that kind of extreme costs.  We are late 70's now.

We had Platinum insurance for our South America cruise last December.  We had to cancel three days before due to a health problem.  It covered everything it was supposed to and, after sending in all the required documents online, (mostly Dr. affidavits) we had our money back within a week.  Since we are Elite, the cost was very good.  We were also lucky that all of our independent excursions were refunded quickly (if we had put deposits down), even the one that was supposed to be non-refundable that close to sailing.

I'm a little slow tonight....are you saying I can't get a scoop of ice cream and a topping????

If they won't allow a scoop, ask for an extra cup. Accept the "heart attack" dessert and scrape what you don't want off, put what you want in the cup and enjoy.

Some people are actually charged despite having paid for Plus.  My credit card online summary showed 2 charges pending (2 cabins) but only one charge went through. I will spend a few minutes at Guest Services and get a $10 credit on my account. No big deal.

We also have Princess insurance.  Our independent broker found us a policy for $175 that has $500,000 medical and $1,000,000 Evacuation.  The cost is low because we insured the trip for $1000 ($500pp).  If the trip falls through then we'll get $1000 from them and the rest from Princess but we'll be adequately covered if we have a serious medical emergency in Australia or New Zealand.

Washing machines....

On another thread someone said washers/dryers are free....but you need to buy detergent.

True or false?

I paid on the Sapphire in 2022, 3.00 per load both wash and dry. I bring my own laundry tabs and dryer sheets. Machines are hit or miss sometimes but I was refunded after I went to CS. Wouldn't have bother but when I called from the laundry area the young lady wasn't the usual polite service rep. I went in person to make sure they understood they had defective washer and dryer at !east one of each.

False.  You must pay for each.  Washer and dryer each require a $3 token.  I believe the detergent is $1.50, but I've always brought my own detergent so not sure.

Hmmm....someone.on IP said they were free.  I'll ask him directly.

Yes @geoherbwho is currently doing a live on the IP posted BECAUSE the token machine is broken, the washer and dryers are free and you still need to purchase detergent if you did not bring your own. I imagine once the token machines have been repaired, you will need to obtain tokens, $3 wash and $3 dry, using your medallion.

It has been reported on some other ships, the washer and dryers were free and detergent and fabric softener were stacked on a shelf to take as needed. This is NOT the normal situation on most Princess ships.
