staying on board

Have never done this but having been to Nassua so many times and reviews of Coco Cay's food and drink service being negative I am going to give it a whirl. Is is boring in the sense there is no band by the pool, no activities???

There's still stuff going on..but not MAJOR activities! We almost always stay on the ship in Nassau....the pool is virtually your own...the bars are open...what more do you want? Now, as far as Coco Cay...it's a great beach day! The food/drink is from the ship, but you don't have to partake, if you don't want to...WJ will be open if you want!

Just wondering if you've been to Coco Cay? For us, it was a beautiful, relaxing beach day. We loved it. But yes, it is Windjammer buffet food and not much to write home about there. It is what it is but like I said, we enjoyed it.

I've read of many passengers staying onboard when in Nassau. The shops and casino are closed but there is still bar service and activities planned.

My last Enchantment cruise I did just that. Got on in Port Canaveral and got off in Port Canaveral. It was one of the most enjoyable sailings I had. Still plenty to do. The band plays and the activities go on.

Love staying on board during port days!!!!

Last trip we never left the ship at any of the three port stops. You will find plenty or nothing to do.

On our Caribbean cruises we rarely leave the ship anymore and really enjoy the the ship on port days! It's very relaxing and nothing is crowded!

Not sure why you are hearing negative about CocoCay - it is AWESOME!!! Beach is glorious and water is so beautiful. Been there so many times and never get tired of it - we wish they would leave us there for the 2 days and skip Nassau! We are on the 1st tender off and the last tender back. We are beach people, have no desire to sit on the ship.

There are a lot of bars, so you can get a drink anywhere you want at CocoCay. Food - if you are expecting 5 star, not happening, but it is a nice lunch, nothing wrong with it. We are easy to please, so doesn't have to be the Ritz to make us happy.

Nassau another story. Could care less. During the winter/spring when we go, we stay on the ship. Once it is hot, we head out to Junkanoo and relax on the beach for the day.

Nassau is not what it use to be. Living in florida we probably have been to Nassau 50 times. You want to talk about a tourist trap, we would stay on the ship. However if you have never been go have lunch at the hard rock or go see the faux Marley estate. Or head out to the outer islands. Bimini, Long Island and South Andros are great.

There will not be any lines in the Windjammer.

DW and I stay on board all the time on port days. The ship will take on a different atmosphere, slower. Still fun though.

Why we take a cruise and often stay on the ship:

…because the cruise ship is our "beach house".

We used to have a beach house on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. One day we realized that we had formed the habit of going to the beach house, relaxing on the decks watching the ocean, and living a carefree life style. BUT the scenery never changed. So we sold the house and began cruising a lot more often. Now we relax on the ship's decks watching the ocean, and live a carefree life style:):D:) however the scenery changes with every port.:)

(The bonus is that the ship moves and avoids the hurricanes!!)

I did hear positive comments also but I live in Florida and love the atmosphere of the beach but ( now I am going to sound old) don't like salt water, walking in the sand. Another comment was the 45minute shuttle back and forth, sounds boring.

 

Lastly, I am doing a solo cruise this time so to go lay by the beach, which I enjoy is not the same without some people to party with. I can just as easily lay by the pool without all the tendering.

this caught my eye. How did you arrange to go to these other islands or the other things listed above. Private tour and if so how?

Coco cay is beautiul! This one is special to us and we never miss the opportunity to go. However we do stay on the ship at nassau. Enjoy the peaceful uncrowded experience. You will have fun whatever you plan.

It's more tempting than ever to remain aboard as today's ships are true floating resorts. :)

We enjoyed the Coco Cay beach day and BBQ. Beautiful place.

One of our primary reasons for sailing is for the ports, even those we've been to before. I will never get sailing and staying on the ship most of a cruise, why not just go to a hotel and sit there. Seems like you may as well just stay at a large resort near home and save a lot of money. But if that's what people enjoy go for it...........

We typically always get off the ship when in port but are seriously considering staying on when we are in Belize next month...it seems that unless you take an excursion there there is not much else. The two main excursions are the ruins and cave tubing and we dont feel our girls would enjoy the hike for the tubing and would be bored with the ruins. The hubby is not up for leaving them in the kids club if we were to leave the boat either :-/

The first time we went on Oasis, we walked around the island on Labadee, wandered the port shop area in Jamaica and never got off in Cozumel. We figured the ship was our destination. It was WONDERFUL. Most relaxing cruise I've ever taken!

We usually get off the ship go to the straw market.. might buy something usually spices (don't want a shirt or item made in china.. when I wasn't there)

Head back to the ship for an early lunch, no crowds,

Agree with you 100 percent. Nassau is terrible. As I mentioned earlier a quick lunch and back to the ship. Nassau isn't even worth the port fees. When paradise island was alive the area was much different. Sure go to Atlantis spend 25$ for a burger and hit the water slide or lazy river. The port fees however are worth the empty ship.

The best part of Nassau is the ride there..................

We've been to Coco Cay three times now - the tender has *never* taken 45 minutes. 10 minutes is more like it. It's a pretty nice beach though I'd recommend some beach shoes as the bottom can be rocky when you walk out into the water. Once you're in the water, though, it's clear, beautiful water and you can easily see schools of fish.

 

As for your OP, we've usually stayed on board at Nassau and even on Majesty, which has "less" to do, we had plenty to do. Shops were closed, but bars are open, you can do trivia, and things aren't quite as crowded. It'd be a great time to hit the pool or whirlpool or if you're on a bigger ship play some minigolf or some other activity.
