NO Mini bar after charge, so let’s add the towel charge to see if anyone misses that!

Recommended Posts

Sat at EWR (Newark) airport after just getting off a great week on Adventure.

Survey completed

Stateroom bill followed after survey completed (electronically):o

Pretty quick on all fronts receiving communication from Royal, so quite impressed.

However,

Stateroom bill (printed copy on ship) Correct

Stateroom bill (electronic copy) Yup 2 towels at a fee of $50.00 added to the folio.

Yes we did get towels out, yes we did hand towels back on the 7th yesterday, and I did ask the guy scanning seapasses to take the towels back if the scanner was attached and actually working;)

Called RC a few minutes ago and was told nothing can be done w.r.t the charge for another 48hrs as they cannot access the folio.

This is just a friendly reminder for all you vigilante cruisers who check your bills.

This could be a one off, or the new way of making a quick buck now the mini bars are no longer stocked.

It happens enough to warrant the conspiracy theory. At least on Jewel they had a sign up stating the last return time. We had to borrow someone else's towel from their deck chair so we could have some for our final last night hottub soak.

Would have been nice to use the hot tub on last night, but the water was cold:D

Happened to us on the Oasis. We received a letter in our room on the last evening reminding us we still had towels! 😳😳

One day at the pool the scanner wasn’t working so they were writing everything by hand. I wondered then if it would ever been scanned into the system.

We went down to Guest Services & had it removed.

My wife and I last sailed on Explorer of the Seas back in 2011. Asked for a towel ONE day, returned it immediately. The person at the pool scanned and I thought all was well. Later, I was reminded that I still have a towel. I explained I'd returned it to (insert name) immediately after. They fixed that immediately at Guest Services while still on board. I feel like it's a game of he said she said. I don't steal, ever. If push came to shove, I'd ask them if they feel intimating that I'm both a liar and a thif and charging me for the towel was work all potential future business I do with them after I say I returned it and they refused to believe me. I don't mess around too much if you get on my bad side.

I agree there is a problem. Unfortunately the charge is in place for all those who leave towels on the beach, on the tour bus, take them home, etc. We're all being penalized for these people. Not sure how to resolve the problem.

We don't know how much the lost towels cost the cruise line. I suspect it is insignificant. But if they want to recoup the costs they could probably solve the problem by adding $1 or $2 to every cruise fare. Perhaps the towel charge is more profitable for them, though, just like the airlines and their baggage fees.

Agree with this. Those towels are not high quality. Half the time you can practically see through them.

Just get a cash account - no more worries about false charges after the crusie!

The pool-towel scan is a scam we test that every crusie....just go there and ask if you have any open towels when in fact you do - they will always say NO open towels!

We will be a cash acct so not concerned about charges. However, does anyone take their own towel for quality? We are on HOTS & could pick some up in Ft Lauderdale - arriving a day early.

I completely disagree with the poster who said that the quality is poor.

They are beach towels. They are fine.

Seriously? Yes they're fine for beach towels to eliminate the need to pack towels as extra luggage on a flight. But you don't think the quality is poor?

On every RC cruise we've been on recently we've commented how bad the towels are - thin, frayed and stained - and how laughable it is that they charge $25. Why would anyone want to take one - you would need to be desparate?

Maybe I'm just lucky and get the better towels. :D :D

We got hit with 8 towel charges for a total of $200 in November on Anthem. I called as soon as I got home and was told to call back in two days. When I called back, they said they had to contact the ship for verification. It took almost 3 weeks to get the refund.

But I'd still rather charge my onboard account than use cash. It's 2% cheaper.

Cash account may work for you, but for us unfortunately with the amount of money we spend in the casino, a cash account is not an option for us.

Different strokes for different folks;)
