Burning Edge Question

Where's the smoking area going to be? Will the Retreat have a smoking area so the suite smokers won't have to go to the regular area?

I don't think anyone has brought this up yet. I would think a lot of people would want to know so they don't book an area above or below the smoking areas if they are similarly located as the S & M ships.

Good question Orv. That is an important item to know when booking. I would assume that it will be on the starboard side wherever it is located. I booked a port side cabin so I wouldn't have to look at the Magic Carpet, so it shouldn't be an issue for me. I would also assume that the Retreat will have to have a small smoking area, since that could prevent some folks from booking. Even though I haven't smoked in 40 years, I do appreciate that smokers need to have some place to smoke.

Seem to remember that the smoking area is on deck 5 Port side on Solstice class ships.

I certainly was aware if this when we last booked Eclipse, as we booked a starboard cabin.

Thanks for correcting my assumption. It is actually on both sides depending on deck based on the info I found below on a website. This could be old though.

Smoking on the Celebrity Eclipse is prohibited in all suites and staterooms including balconies. Cigarette smoking is allowed on the Port side of the Sky Observation Lounge, the Port side of the Resort Deck (Deck 12), Starboard side of the Sun Deck (Deck 14) port side of the Entertainment Deck (Deck 5) where tables, chairs and ashtrays are provided and the Sunset Bar on the Starboard side which also has a designated pipe and cigar smoking area. Signs are posted at the designated smoking areas and if in doubt, ask a staff member about where smoking is permitted.

So until it is announced, it will be unknown.

Really hope they don't mar the retreat area by having a smoking area. May cancel my cruise if that's the case. Celebrity doesn't need to be adding more smoking areas. That ship has sailed.

That would be a deal killer for me. That would make the whole area smell like smoke. Another reason why I'm not rushing into the booking frenzy. Not enough information available.

I will certainly wait to see if Edge has European itineraries after April 2019.

The prices are akin to Azamara, which I fell in love with. So when I win the lottery, I think I will stick with their brand.

I'm thinking the MC would be the perfect smoking area! I can see me now sitting out there at night having a great cigar!!!

That would be so ironic.. The first Michaels Clubs were beautifully appointed self contained Cigar Bars., I recall the one on Mercury was large. On M class, Michaels had very expensive humidors but the ship lacked a nice Piano bar so out went the cigar smokers...relegated to various outdoor locations none of which are very nice and often limited seating,...,,usually stinks of burning cig butts.

I am a non smoker but dh enjoys a good cigar with a nice drink now and then,,,,so I am aware of the transition,,.but using the old name seems ironic and i doubt that will happen...

Smoking is not permitted in MC, the Casino, or any indoor bars.

It's been that way since Solstice joined the fleet.

Please no smoking at all on the new Edge.

Smokers will book and sail the Celebrity Edge and all the Edge class ships. I tend to book suites and I've smoked on both the Solstice and the Equinox. Or rather, perhaps I should put it this way:

Please no non-smoking at all on the new Edge. :halo:

If you were smoking in the designated areas, fine. BUT, if you were on your balcony or in your suite NOT GOOD. I know I, for one, would be reporting it. Yes, you may slam me for it, but fire on a ship is the worst of catastrophies. You are given an area. I don't understand why folks want to abuse rules. ANY rules. Read the fine print, you accept the rules when you sign your ticket but in this day and age that seems to mean nothing.

Sad.

PatC - right with you on the smoking issue. We also will report (and have reported) anyone who smokes in prohibited areas (like cabin or balcony). My wife is especially sensitive to cigarette smoke. Times change, and our knowledge and understanding about issues improves with time. Don't think Celebrity will take the "leap off the Edge" and make the entire ship non-smoking, but given the current knowledge base, it is appropriate that Celebrity has restricted areas for smokers. Adding additional smoking areas would be a step backward.

Since all Celebrity class ships have designated smoking areas and there is still a percentage of smokers, especially amongst the ‘older’ generation that tend to cruise more, the Edge should have a smoking area much as done on other Class ships. As to it not being specifically assigned yet, I’d think that isn’t the highest priority since the Edge’s common areas especially the outside areas haven’t been fully defined yet, or at least released.

Personally, as you can see on my signature, I don’t see the big deal of waiting to see exactly what and how the ship will be laid out. I’m excited about a new Celebrity experience since we have cruised on all the current (and most of the retired) ships, and look forward to be surprised and entertained.

If you are a smoker, they will accommodate you in a way that gives you access, and minimizes the impact on others as has been done on all the other ships.

The fire caused by the ships' internal combustion engines (mostly) notwithstanding, OF COURSE fire on a ship can be catastrophic. And I doubt I'm the only smoker who appreciates and enjoys the unrestricted smoking areas on Celebrity ships. They're a wonderful gathering place where, by the end of a cruise, I've not failed to grow close to several new friends. During my last trip, it felt like how I imagine Cheers would.

I'm uncertain how a discussion regarding smoking on Celebrity's Edge turned into smokers = rule breakers. Perhaps I've misinterpreted what you've said?

Were you able to get the same onboard booking perks for the Edge booking as for other ships?

We are just off the Silhouette and booked an Edge cruise for February, 2020. The perks are the same as for other ships ... one perk and onboard credit ($125 for a 7-night cruise), $100 pp deposit.

What on earth made you lob this rant at aka pella? There was nothing in their post from which you could reasonably infer that they intended to break rules. I myself loathe smoke (allergies) though you’ll sometimes see me standing upwind from my DS or friends who smoke. However, I also loathe the tendency of some people to harass, complain about or give the stink eye to smokers who are merely smoking in their designated areas!
