Extra tips on Cheers - cash or sign?

Silly question time.

If I want to tip extra on Cheers drinks is it better to hand them cash or add to the check?

We tip $1 extra (for the two of us) each round and just add it to the bill. They appreciate either way...it’s all the same.

We asked once and the bartender said they preferred it on the card - I was shocked! I still do about half cash and half card - depending on how the casino is going!

I was told the same, would rather have it on the card as it will go directly in their bank account, so that is what I do.

We have always done on the card because I dont always have pockets and don't want to carry cash around. It's always well appreciated. I was surprised on RC that they didn't usually give you a slip to sign if you had the drink package, so if I didn't have cash to tip, I would have to ask for it in order to add it.

I have asked this same question a few times and have gotten different responses. One said if the tip is added to the bill it’s divided by the entire bar staff another said it really does not matter .

yup, cash. That way you know it’s going directly to the bartender :)
No you don't. You have no idea what arrangement the staff may have in place.

I remember on John's blog, a dinner had given his favorite waiter a cash tip, was thanked for it and saw the waiter walk straight over and hand it to the Head waiter who put it in his pocket. The dinner was upset by this and asked John it this was standards practice. John said that it was not required by carnival, but many of the wait teams have understandings in place and it was their choice.

So by tipping your favorite person may or may not result in that person alone keeping the tip. However, once you have given it to them, what they do with it is up to them.

To answer the ops question, if you are wanting to tip extra to what you are already being charged, I don't think it matters how you do it, so do what is easiest for you.

I personally just add it to the check if I have been really delighted with my server. Otherwise the standard tip is all I pay. I have never felt slighted or over looked if I wanted to order something contrary to what I read on here all the time. However I am not a frequent drink orderer.

I just got my cruise tip cash yesterday...took out a 100 in ones and a 100 in fives hope that's enough but we'll see....

I once took 100 1s on a cruise and came home with a lot of 1s. I think 50 is plenty for a 7 day cruise but you can't go wrong with too much cash.

Add it to the bill. Why walk around with a bunch of ones in your pocket. The additional is greatly appreciated and the bartenders always do a little extra if you add a $1 either way.

Take care,

Mike

It’s not a big deal. I just keep about 10 folded up 1’s in my back pocket so they don’t fall out of a front pocket when pulling out my phone or s&s card. Works well and bartenders seem to like it.

I have done both added the extra to the receipt and handed them it in cash. It really depends on what I am doing at the time and if I have any cash in my pocket. Hard to give cash when you are in the pool or hot tub. Either way I have always gotten awesome service.

I just did the almost the same...150 in $1's and 50 in $5's. When you go to the bank and print out those luggage tags...you know it's getting close to cruis'in time!
