What's the rudest or strangest thing you've seen recently on a Royal Caribbean ship?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were on the Harmony this past Nov and were on a crowded elevator, DW (we are in our 70's) was in a wheel chair and some jerk tried to sit in her lap so he could get a ride.

Unbelievable!

I wonder if that could be classed as assault? and if so the jerk deserves to be charged.

I would have the DR manager over so fast it would make heads spin even if it wasn't my table ... no way any DR personnel should be handling food and touching an animal and handling food again ... and don't anyone say that the waiter would surely wash his hands, I very much doubt it, and I don't care how much the waiter might be missing his own pets ... I would escalate to the Food & Beverage Manager and the Hotel Director and Guest Relations Manager and corporate ... that is simply unacceptable activity ... period.

(y) You and me both. I'm really suprised that others didn't say anything. I just don't understand people like that. It's disgusting.

As for the people who say it's not rude to have a laptop in the MDR because others also do it in land restaurants. Thats a lousy excuse for the bad behavior. Just because people do it in land restaurants doesn't make it right. It's still rude behavior.

Cruised with Thomson on number of occasions and never witnesses any bad behaviour. Thomsons not my favoriteline as ships quite small but for entertainment and staff they can' t be beaten.

I agree fully that Thomson's staff are the friendliest on any cruise ship I've sailed on. They seem to know your names within a day and are always happy and cheerful. Can't agree with the entertainment comment, though!

I would imagine he had to be pretty drunk. If this thread changed to the drunkest person I have ever seen, I was on Freedom in 2007 and it was hotter than heck in Miami for muster. We were there a long time while they accounted for everybody. This guy suddenly shows up, drink in hand and announces, "Let's get this Fracken Party stared!" Everyone on the port side heard it. He was quickly escorted away.

The people who ride those scooters who feel the need to practically run over bystanders and try to speed their way onto an elevator before the doors close. Sorry man, we do not have room for your rude, cavalier expectancies.

You could always start your own thread.

The French "have a word for that." (of course)

l'esprit d'escalier

;) :)

Vous avez raison. Since I can count on one hand the number of times I have taken an elevator on a ship, I would not be in a situation where I would have to make a snappy comeback. Unfortunately, I still have a time delay problem when it comes to coming out with the perfect thing to say no matter where I am.

I'm curious about what different demographic you refer to here. We are going on our first cruise next month. I figured a 5 day cruise was a better "first time" than a 7 day. We aren't big drinkers and will have our 3 teenage sons with us. What are we in for?

We did a five day for our first cruise also. We didn’t know how we’d feel about being “stuck” on a boat for so long. We had no problem at all with drunks! There was a group of spring breakers from a local college. Yes they did some drinking but they were polite and we enjoyed talking with them (when they were reasonably sober!) have fun!

How do you know it was not important? It would be naive and ignorant to automatically assume it was frivolous activity. My wife is an international tax attorney. She deals with clients who also live overseas. Bedtime for you, mid work day for them. Business never sleeps. Neither does international commerce.

For some, a vacation does not mean a cutoff from work.

Since we don’t know what this person was actually doing with said laptop. Presenting that as rude, is unfounded and in itself rude.

Since the beginning of time, pre laptop days, dinner is and always will be an off limits time for doing work. Taking phone calls, conducting business, and generally ignoring others around you. That is rude. Business is conducted after dinner, where deals are made. It might include a cigar and Whiskey, but it is not at the dinner table. There is a time for work, and a time for business.

I'm an American expat who has lived in the UK for 23 years (my husband is British, and I have since taken dual citizenship). The vast majority of people that I've met over the years have been wonderful. However, in my experience, the way some British people treat me when they hear me speak will often depend on who the current president is. I was actually spat at during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and told to "f*ck off back home." This is not the norm.

Slightly off topic, but what's up with dual citizenship? I'm kind of surprised that's allowed. What are the advantages

Same here. I love 5 day cruises. Have never encountered people who were drunk.

Going to jump into the fray here. I don’t understand why anyone cares if someone at another table had their laptop. If it was at a table with other diners (not family or a group traveling together) and you are one of those diners, ok I get it. If it’s a separate table, how does it concern you? The children walking around is dangerous to themselves and others. I’ve never understood why parents allow their children to do that. I guess it’s similar to what someone wears in the dining room, some of us let it bother us and some don’t.

I am easy going and don't usually watch for this stuff or get upset much.

However on our recent cruise we witnessed something upsetting.

A kid threw up into outside family pool. Crew had to drain it and refill with a clean water.

Refilled water wasn't as warm as original one, but still ok.

Mom brings her four years old daughter into adult solarium and tells her to get in the pool.

Pool attendants tell mom that it is an adult pool and kids cannot swim here.

Girl is hesitant to go into the pool.

What does mom do?

She turns to the guard and starts screaming at him about how RCI doesn't care about the kids and they must let her daughter in! Guard was very uncomfortable.

Mom only stopped after other passengers came to guard's defense.

Exactly. I could care less about laptops and other people's clothes because they don't affect me. If people are truly spending time with those in their party at dinner then why are they focused on everyone else? Now, waiters petting dogs at the dinner table, or just dogs at dinner period, that's a different story.

Did the OP ever confirm that said laptop was at their table? I guess I assumed it was.

Paulines cousin has lived in Australia for 10+ years.

She has an Australian passport and a British passport.

She uses the British passport when she travels to England or Europe and uses her Australian passport to get back into Australia which saves any hassles with customs (homeland security).

What a selfish woman.

On Carnival Elation, had a kinda-attractive, extremely drunk, royally-pissed-at-her-drunk-boyfriend woman lay a lip lock on me. Quite unexpected, and I probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been on my honeymoon.

Good answer! Does your significant other also read the forums?
