Europe 2011

We have it narrowed down to a HAL cruise, as well as a RCCL cruise, but would prefer this springs schedule of the Equinox for 2011. I sure hope the 2011 itinerary comes out today. We feel we need to lock in the rates for one of the other cruises.

One thing I noticed while searching this springs schedule. The sailings seem to still have quite a bit of availability. Celebrity may be hesitating on the Equinox being in the Mediterranean next spring.

IMO,...and only IMO....the whole hesitancy in publishing Europe // TA schedule ( as well as Alaska, due ''this week''...) hinges around

MERCURY's fate.

It has been speculated and even rationalized that she may be off the fleet by spring 2011 upon ending her winter sailings.....if so, SHE no longer protects her historical Alaska saiings for summer 2011.....and perhaps CONNIE does.....and another ship works some European itineraries.

If not, then it will be a repeat of summer 2010.

Just a thought....

Cheers

I hope they will not be sending the Mercury back to the Mediterranean. She was over there when I cruised in 2008. Any theory about the Equinox? :)

Mercury has not been to Europe in the 9 years I've been cruising with X. She annually does Alaska. You might be thinking Galaxy.

Due to which ships can fit through the Panama Canal, if X keeps Mercury for another season she will likely head back to Alaska or stay in the Caribbean

If they are indeed still wondering about Mercury's fate, that seems pretty irresponsible to me. It's awfully late to be still making a big decision like that. Just by reading this thread, you can see many Celebrity cruisers are being tempted by other lines' itineraries mainly because they're available while Celebrity's are not. They're missing out on a lot of potential business by dragging their feet. Princess and HAL both have their itineraries available in some form, and they're Celebrity's main competition. I know Celebrity has a staggered release to minimize the chaos of having all these new itins available at once, but it would be to their advantage to publish Europe and Alaska first, as those are the ones people want the most. The early bird gets the worm, Celebrity!

You're correct! I always get those two mixed up. ;)

Infi - Isn't that the truth! HAL has had their itinerary out for quite a while. I have a thread on the HAL forum right now, that is asking to help me decide on which cruise to take. Since I have already been on the Noordam to the Mediterranean, one HAL supporter is saying I should take the Equinox if the scheduling and pricing is comparable to the others. We don't want to lose out on the good pricing that the two other cruises are offering, so we will have to go ahead and book by this weekend. Already waited longer than we intended, but keep hoping that the schedule will show up this week. :D

Hi Infi !

A couple of comments.... I highly doubt that Celebrity is making a Mercury decision within the past few days. I think that decision has been made weeks, if not months ago. Another thing to consider, is the decision may not be totally up to Celebrity. It's likely that Royal Caribbean gets involved with ship decisions.

What will happen to Mercury ? We may have our answer, when Alaska 2011 is released. I think either Mercury stays, or goes to Azamara, though that is pure speculation. The reason I am wondering about Azamara, is that they recently said they do not plan to build a new ship right now, and most folks feel they need at least 1 more ship.

I agree that I am very puzzled as to what's going on with deployments. In years past, Celebrity typically released an entire region's schedule within a day or 2. So far, this year is like a leaky faucet, where things are coming in drips. This is strictly my opinion, but I have to believe that one or more events changed Celebrity's thinking in the past few weeks, and it's causing Celebrity to make last minute changes. Could Mercury be that event ? It's making me wonder.

As I've said in the past, I hope that Mercury remains with Celebrity, for at least another year. We should have our answer, at any time.

Looks like we aren't the only people looking for a "British Isles" cruise! Celebrity offered one in Sept back in 2009 with the perfect itinerary but we weren't ready for that cruise then ...now we are! We were really hoping Celebrity would do that cruise again in 2011. So far no luck...I'm still hoping!

Come on Celebrity...please offer us a Brisitsh Isles cruise for the month of September. ;) We may have to jump to Princess for that cruise if Celebrity doesn't offer it.

Pat :)

If you're referring to the Constellation's Sept. 2009 Transatlantic cruise - it had a great itinerary, and it was a wonderful cruise! Jewel of the Seas has a similar itinerary in Sept. 2011.

I am booked on a June 2010 Crown Princess British Isles cruise. I like Princess, and this will be my 3rd Princess cruise.

I have to agree with you. We have a hold on a specific cabin that we want on Eclipse, but don't feel able to make a decision until the other itineraries are released. Celebrity have agreed to extend the hold for one more week because of the current situation but if they are not released by then we may end up letting the hold go, waiting for the itinerary release, not liking them/not getting the cabin that we want and going on a land based vacation instead. We can't pay the deposit on the Eclipse cruise because in the UK we will then lose £150 if we want to change ship after the remaining itineraries are released. Celebrity's loss!

We also have a hold on a cabin on the Eclipse but are impatiently waiting for the Connie schedule to come out. I think they are going to lose customers to other cruiselines if they don't get them out this week.

Hi Garry,

Same here, have Eclipse April TA and May 7th on hold, but would like to see Equinox and Silhouette's schedule for 2011.

Please excuse my not reading all the posts but is Eclipse the only ship coming to Europe in 2011? I cannot find any other Transatlantic cruises on the UK version of the X site. We are trying to work out what we want to do next year before visiting the Cruise 2010 show in London on Saturday

No, Celebrity will have additional ships in Europe in 2001 - they just are delayed in finalizing and releasing the itineraries. Hopefully within the next week or two they will be out. A lot of people are eagerly awaiting this.

Be careful. As I said earlier, being in the UK we can not change ships without paying £75 per first 2 people in a cabin, so if you book Eclipse at the show this weekend (paying £300 deposit) and then the Silhouette is released next week and you want to switch it will cost you half of your deposit. In the USA it is my understanding you can switch until right before final payment without penalty.

Yes, that is correct. In U.S. deposits are fully refundable prior to final payment due date. It is unfortunate people in the UK do not also have this benefit.

Kruzgal, thank you so much for helping me find the thread that I had lost. I am so poised, and as Garry said, waiting so impatiently, to book what I want (and so happy it's the Connie).

It really is a shame the UK folks have to wait b/c of the deposit issue/non-refundable penalty issue.

I do trust their announcement that all the Europe sailings will be open for booking by March 30th. That's a whole full seven days away, unfortunately!

  • 2 weeks later...

I think and hope that Celebrity Cruises will offer a cruise to the North cape and the Norwegian Fjords in July 2011....:)

But I think they will do it because the Norway cruises for 2010 are sold out (except 5 suites) so I think in 2011 there start also Norway cruises...
