Does anyone cruise and never see a show?

If I cruised a lot and went on the same ships more than once, I would probably skip some. But, I like shows so on our recent cruise on the Oasis we saw most of them. They were great! If I were to go on Oasis again, I would probably skip most of them.

We skipped a bunch them on some ships because 1- we repeated a ship and the production shows were exactly the same and 2- I find the welcome show is one big sales pitch for things to buy or do that are already listed in the Compass. 3-I don't really enjoy most of the headliners or have seen them on another ship already ( Pampas gauchos and Earl Turner) , 4- we do MTD and sometimes the show times don't work for us.

But on Oasis we didn't miss a show, they were all pretty unique and since everyone goes to shows on different days, there is no welcome or farewell show, the CD does not have to do the sales pitches on these ships and you can plan dining around the showtimes more easily. We booked Allire so we could see different shows, even though we will do the same itinerary.

We often go and sit where we can leave without disrupting others and we do leave about 30% of the time. We probably completely skip about 30% of the shows. We don't like very loud music, rock, rhythm and blues, etc. which probably relates to our ages. Magic, comedy, the rare classical performance have sometimes been quite good.

If it is a ship with a good pianist in a lounge, or a string quartet we sometimes do that instead.

We enjoy reading in our cabin or the library as well.

I have been on over 27 cruises. At first it was a BIG thing to go to a show then the novelty started to wear off. Plus I got a lot larger and did not fit in the seats too well. I choose to go to the casino or a bar instead of the shows. Well on my last cruise Oasis of the Seas (Sep 1, 2012) I decided since we had to reserve the shows to go see a few of them.

Well the seating has changed. They are wide seats. The shows have changed. They are a lot more professional. Hairspray was great. The Frozen in time show was wonderful. Talk about in your face ice skating!!!

For the Oasis of Dreams Aquatic show I was able to see it from my balcony and from the end deck in a lounger while drinking a frozen drink.

Shipboard shows have changed. I tell you on the Oasis class ships GO SEE THE SHOWS!!!!!!!!

ME! I love to cruise and I love to see shows - but I don't really love the two of them together. I go to the Kennedy Center (or other theathers) at least 4 times a year and I really enjoy every moment of it - but when I am on a cruise I don't really want to go see a show. I am there for the islands, the pool, the sun, the wonderful evening air and spending time with the family - I am not there for a "broadway" show.

We go to the shows. I really enjoy them, part of the magic of cruising.

We always have early seating in the main dining room, go to a show, and take a walk outside to gaze at the ocean and stars. We head inside visit a bar, listen to some music while enjoying a drink. A couple times during the week, we visit the casino. We will then stop for a snack somewhere before heading back to our room and our balcony.

After 38 years of marriage, it's kinda like date night every night for a week. It sustains me until the next cruise, as we don't do much in the evenings at home. Our lives are just to busy. We both work full time. In addition, DH is back in school, studying to be a licensed Minister, and I am busing creating - painting, jewelry making as I do craft shows in my "spare time".

DH - well, he could (would) probably skip the shows, but the rest of the evening would remain the same. As he likes a happy wife, he goes to the shows with me in the evening. In turn, he gets to sleep later in the morning while I get up early, search out coffee, and commune with the ocean in a quiet place.

Out of 45 cruises I have seen less than a half dozen shows in either the main show room or other lounges. Just wasn't my cup of tea. However last year on Celebrity Millennium I did see a production show that revolved around music from the 70's and it was so good I saw it twice during the B2B. My next cruise on Allure of the Seas I've gone way outside of my 'norm' and have reserved several shows because they have come so highly rated.

We used to go to them but they all seem to be similar.

"A tribute to Broadway" type of theme, though MSC had Italian Opera type which was really nice..

I don't like rushing dinner or waiting in line.

Many times they start late because they play bingo before hand, trying to sell games as long as possible.

That drags out forever.

If the timing is right we go in.

Most are pretty good.
