Boarding denied? Why?

I forgot to add when I posted before, my DH's kids went on a cruise a year ago and his ex never got the permission paperwork for her to take them on a cruise. He did the research to get her in trouble with the cruiseline, had their number to report her and all that etc... crap... thing is I told him not to do it because he was pissed at ex wife because the kids were excited about going.

You are a nice person. Often the kids suffer when their parents do not get along. Adults really do need to look past that and consider what is best for their kids. I applaud you for getting to think of his kids instead of his exwife.

on a more serious note: Just get a passport.

 

I believe it's not uncommon in the USA for people to be without one. If your cruise is visiting other countries even if you don't intent to disembark you still need a passport as such the cruise line wont let you board without one.

 

 

I refrain from given citizens of another country advice on Visa or Passports because the rules for specific countries are generally much different than our own. This is one of those cases. Most countries within the whti(western hemisphere travel initiative)- don't care whether you have a US passport or not. Its generally only the US that cares. they want the USD(they like Euros and pounds sterling too) and don't really worry if you have a passport. Its perfectly permissible to visit all these countries without a passport-by ship.

the article I most recently saw( I think it was that Princess customer mentioned earlier in fact) was due to a huge lawsuit the customer filed for an art auction piece they bought. i could't follow all the twists but really at some point a company has to tell a customer it isn't worth their patronage.

I used to work for JCP.. and we had several people we banned due to their penchant for buying and returning stuff on a weekly basis. usually buy on sale or clearance then come back conveniently without the receipt and then demand full price in cash.. then the company got wise and started saying..sorry no receipt, no cash or credit.. only GC.

 

too many legitimate customers complained so it was scrapped in under a year.

 

after a while the sales associates were told point blank to NOT sell anything to them.. we had pictures and names at the registers. One just changed their antics and started going to the other anchor Dept store in the mall. she did't realize that we all talk to each other.. and she was booted from there in like a month.

 

We were never banned from a store, but when our oldest boy was little, they assigned a salesperson to follow us all the time after he did several things, including hit the emergency stop button on the escalator!:o

 

DW tried to shop when I could watch him.:(

I have always wondered if they deny you boarding if you fill out that "health questionnaire" about being sick do they refund your money if you have the insurance.

 

I would hope so since the insurance is supposed to cover you in case of health issues.

Always make sure your paperwork is in order. Several years ago there was a very sad story about a clergyman whose congregation paid for an Alaskan trip for him and his wife.

IIRC they were at the post office getting their passports and the passport person said they could save money and get the passport card. Trouble was they were flying into Vancouver.

 

They were not reimbursed.

How do you "get to know and befriend" a senior officer? And what sort of issues do you ask a senior officer to "take care of" for you?

 

I am happy not to have had any issues on a cruise which my room steward, the maitre d', or the front desk could not solve for me.

 

On my last cruise on the Liberty I got chatting with the Revenue Manager. He was a very tall Brit who was very nice. We would joke that when I lost money in the casino he would do a little cheer. When I won, he would grab his chest in mock pain. This occured even if I won $20 and became the ongoing gag for the rest of the cruise.

 

I did not have any issues on this ship, but learned a lot about the medical emergency that we had (and witnessed the evacuation from my window) at 1 AM in the morning. But a comment about another employee's good or bad actions gets a lot better treatment when brought to the attention of someone like this. A few cruises ago, I complained to someone about one of the waiters in the MDR that actually caused us not to eat there for the rest of the cruise. He would forget to bring items ordered and then told us it was our fault for not ordering them. Of course there were 8 people at the who had heard what everyone had ordered. The last night before we stopped going we all spoke very loudly so everyone at the table could hear what we ordered. This way the waiter could not blame us for not ordering the right food.

 

On a Carnival cruise years ago, I made an acquaintance with the video & theater technical people (I work in TV in addition to other places), and when the ship tipped 14 degrees to port, learned the real reason for the tipping. They also gave me a tour of the backstage areas in the theater showing me the lighting control systems, etc. In fact on that ship (Carnival Legend) they cannot crank up the theater to the max in terms of lights and audio because it takes too much power from the propulsion.

 

You learn a lot by simply asking the right questions to the right people!

I remember that thread. I felt very badly for them, as they had relied in good faith on the passport agent who collected all of their documents. You would think that person should have known better. :(

Couldn't they have flown into Seattle and then taken train or bus? In that case I believe the card would have worked.

Should have. Also, they would have needed to return from within the USA too. If the cruise ended in Alaska and they flew back home from there, that would have been fine

That might be true upon embarkation. But at the ports the ship would end up leaving a lot of people behind:eek:

 

In Cozumel I saw three passengers coming back to the ship. Two guys and a girl in between. They were walking 3 abreast with their arms over each others necks and having a jolly good time. When they got to the ship I realized that the guys were supporting the girl. She was physically unable to go through the metal detector on her own.

 

Finally one of the guys went through and turned around. The other who had been supporting the girl leaned her forward and basically dropped her through the detector to be caught by the first fellow.

 

I often wondered at what point in time she sobered up enough to know that she was back on the ship.

My ex SIL reported his son's passport stolen. So my 12 year old GS was surrounded by immigration officials when he tried to exit the ship at the end of the cruise. He was taken to a room and interviewed. Fortunately they allowed his Mom to be present but his passport was confiscated. They said he would receive it back if investigation reveled t was truly his. He never did receive it but it would have expired this year. SIL was just being mean as I had my GS passport in our safe deposit box since we took him to,Alaska the year before. I had warned his Mom about the need for permission but she was convinced that because she had custody she didn't need it.
