cajun-crazy Posted August 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2013 I'm thinking of doing this and wondered if anyone else has found it useful. We'll be sailing in October in our first balcony. Our ship also has the poolside movies playing at night. I thought I noticed in someones picture of the dive-in movies that some guests were covered with lap size blankets. Some higher-end lines might provide this, but we're sailing Carnival:)
catsgirl Posted August 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Princess provides blankets for movies under the stars. I always bring a light shawl for the air conditioning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Langley Cruisers Posted August 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Some higher-end lines might provide this, but we're sailing Carnival:) Why don't you ask on the Carnival board if they provide them?
NoobCruise Posted August 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 15, 2013 HAL provides blankets in Alaska. ask on the Carnival board. I wouldn't want to bother with packing a blanket on top of everything else though.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 15, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2013 I agree with the recommendation to ask about this on the Carnival board to see if blankets are provided. Keith
CaveDiving Posted August 15, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Just about every cruise line I know will happily supply an extra blanket if you ask. IMHO, it is not necessary to pack one. Scott & Karen
SadieN Posted August 15, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) Carnival will provide blankets for the lido deck movies. For our balcony we have used our Carnival-provided blue beach towels or bathrobes. Edited August 15, 2013 by SadieN
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 15, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 15, 2013 I would never pack a blanket or a shawl -- takes up too much room and then there is the weight issue.

paul929207 Posted August 15, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 15, 2013 My wife always takes a light shawl. It takes almost no room and weighs next to nothing. She finds the public rooms are often cool.
cb at sea Posted August 15, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 15, 2013 I wouldn't bring anything.....outside, your pool towel will work in a pinch!! I've never been overly cold inside the ship.

Many ladies bring a shawl. That is a garment, not a blanket. :)
OCruisers Posted August 15, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) On every cruise line we've sailed (noted in signature) I've always ask my room steward for an extra blanket if there is not already one in the cabin. It's nice to have it for the couch. :) LuLu ~~~~ Edited August 15, 2013 by OCruisers
namche Posted May 23, 2017 #15 Share Posted May 23, 2017 I'd like to get my wife a cashmere travel blanket for her first cruise. Any suggestions?
MJSailors Posted May 23, 2017 #16 Share Posted May 23, 2017 Whether on a cruise or land based vacation, I always take a lightweight throw with me. I find it useful for naps or while watching a movie in the cabin or hotel room. To the previous poster, you might be able to find a cashmere travel blanket at a home goods store or on the internet shopping site that begins with A and has the same name as a very large river ( I am not sure if company names can be written in posts on CC- I hope you know the companies that I am referring to ). I think your wife would appreciate such a travel blanket - very thoughtful idea !
namche Posted May 23, 2017 #17 Share Posted May 23, 2017 Thanks for the suggestion. They do have some travel blankets, but I'm wondering what experienced cruisers feel about size, fringes, patterns, and so on. Anybody have any favorites?

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted May 24, 2017 #21 Share Posted May 24, 2017 I always carry a couple of pashminas when travelling. I have one that is a little larger than average and that works well as a light blanket when needed.
mrsfuzzmo Posted May 24, 2017 #22 Share Posted May 24, 2017 No, no room in my suitcase. If I need something, I just ask my cabin steward and they will always provide. Even if it's just a bed sheet or light coverlet (depends on the cruise line, and what they have to offer). We usually have an extra blanket in our closet when we board along with the life jackets! Check there.
cruzincurt Posted May 24, 2017 #23 Share Posted May 24, 2017 We take two single person light blankets to use for a nap or when it's windy/cool on the balcony. We have the steward remove the heavy comforter and put on a standard blanket. Plenty of room in the suitcase since we don't take over the door shoe holders and some of the other recommended stuff. moonbmn53 Posted May 24, 2017 #24 Share Posted May 24, 2017 I have a lightweight down throw that I always take with me when I travel. It weighs nothing and also scrunches down to nothing. I like to snuggle with it.

Although, we did a Hawaii cruise one year and it was so cold we bought blankets on our first stop (Ensenada). Will probably take those on our next Hawaiian cruise depending on the weather...
