aftop Posted October 13, 2013 #51 Share Posted October 13, 2013 On a Voyager cruise in fall of 2011 I was waiting outside the dinning room while my DW went to the ladies room. A man walked up and asked me, is your name ....? I replied yes and he then asked, did you use to work at .......? I answered yes and thought, this guy knows me. Turns out we had worked together in the mid 90s but I had not had any contact with him or the work place since then.
LucasLounger1 Posted October 13, 2013 #52 Share Posted October 13, 2013 Last Christmas we were cruising with the family and my sister's family ran into a neighbourhood family from home. Unfortunately the kids (well, teens) weren't really friends back home so didn't hang out together onboard. They hung out with kids they met onboard. Cruzin-K Posted October 13, 2013 #53 Share Posted October 13, 2013 On my Sovereign cruise on the first day I ran into a co-worker. I worked at our AZ office and she was in NC (I think). I'd met her in person when we were both in Kuwait on an assignment. She told me she was there with 12 family members. I told her that I was sailing solo and her response was "oh, I'm sorry". Thankfully I only saw her one other time on that cruise and didn't say anything other than hello 'cause we were just passing on the stairs. ucfknight07 Posted October 13, 2013 #55 Share Posted October 13, 2013 I had a coworker and her mother decide to book the exact same 12 night European cruise as my wife and myself after I (regretfully) shared our itinerary with them as an example of some ports they may want to visit. Making the situation even more odd, I was told via Facebook while out of town for Christmas. The conversation was prefaced with "I hope you don't think this is weird, but..." Um, YES. I think it's weird that you booked the exact same cruise as me on the other side of the WORLD! When I expressed my disapproval I was told, "Oh, it's not as if we will see one another." Clearly these people had never been on a cruise ship... How often over the course of 12 nights would you see people you know!? We were traveling 5,000 miles from home to get away from people like this... not to spend a once-in-a-lifetime vacation WITH them! Thankfully this happened about 6 months before the cruise, so we were able to change our plans and rebooked the same itinerary a month later. Everything worked out, and we added 5 days on to our trip to spend our anniversary in Paris. Almost 2 years later, I still cannot comprehend how someone could have the audacity to knowingly book the same cruise as a coworker, especially when there are so many options to choose from! Maybe a short 3 night cruise, but one on the other side of the world? Just weird...
stevea36 Posted October 13, 2013 #56 Share Posted October 13, 2013 So, there we are, total Newbies, lining up for security at the Pan American Pier in San Juan. Not knowing what to truly expect I started talking to the couple in front of us and their older children. When I asked them where they were from they responded "Boston". I said "no one is from Boston, what town are you from", and they responded "Foxboro". Well, to make a long story short, My brother is from Foxboro and the guy in front of us was his Landscaper. I immediately called my brother who decided he was paying too much for his landscaping :) It is definitely a small world !! Steve
Folk Singer Posted October 13, 2013 #57 Share Posted October 13, 2013
On our 12-21-2009 cruise I ran into a girl I worked with as a computer programmer in an office of about 35 people. MrBreeze Posted October 13, 2013 #58 Share Posted October 13, 2013 Happened twice to me. A couple of years ago on the Norwegian Sun out of Port Canaveral, my mailman was on board. We are good friends now and hang out together back here at home. Last year on board the Carnival Breeze out of Miami, I had TWO ex girlfriends on the same cruise. Wow, lots of drama on that one, it was crazy. My cruising buddy had lots of fun with that, that week.

emeraldcity Posted October 13, 2013 #60 Share Posted October 13, 2013 The day before boarding the Pride of America in Hawaii, we visited Pearl Harbor. As we were exiting the launch following our visit to the USS Arizona Memorial, I noted the young man in front of my had a bright orange T-shirt that proclaimed "Cleveland - a drinking town with a football problem." So I stopped him to chat with him and his mom. Turned out the mother worked with my daughter at one of the large Cleveland hospital complexes, before she transferred to their facility in Hawaii. SteveH2508 Posted October 13, 2013 #62 Share Posted October 13, 2013 We booked a last minute cruise around Iceland and Norway on Crown Princess for summer break. Day 3 - sitting having our wine flight and sushi in Vines I thought I glimpsed a student I had been teaching all year. Fast forward 2 days to the excursion to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland - sitting on the coach waiting to go - who appears on the same coach but said student with parents - the look on his face was priceless! (He did introduce me BTW)
evelyn51 Posted October 13, 2013 #63 Share Posted October 13, 2013
Nope. I've never run into anyone I know who I didn't take along with me. I hope it stays that way.
On a cruise with my husband, my brother, and his wife during disembarkation my sister-in-law came face to reddening face with her daughter's boss. He begged in a humourous way that she not tell the employee (daughter) where they had been all last week. Apparently, he'd been crying poor company profits. ie. He made up for it by taking all the employees and their partners on a group cruise the next spring!. Must have been a great year. . . ;)

Hozhoni Posted October 13, 2013 #65 Share Posted October 13, 2013 Yes. I am a social worker and worked for hospice for six years a couple of years ago one of my hospice nurse coworkers was onboard a Bahamas cruise....her teens were in high school with my teens and they were all there. We all had a blast! Also just last weekend I met a lady from Kentucky who works for my company, at breakfast. I live in FL and work from home. I have already emailed her to say hi. She returns to work tomorrow. Funny bc our company is very pro self care and we were both wearing our free pedometers for vitality points...we get to use points for shopping :) small world indeed. evelyn51 Posted October 13, 2013 #66 Share Posted October 13, 2013
Ran into my ex wife. Not good.
My x-cousin's brother-in-law. Sounds like a non problem but, because I never want to get together with her again it was awkward. We had never met him before or his wife. They did not know us at all. He is a bell ringer for my cousin's husband. Once we shared very little info. over a MDR dinner seating I knew. I was right that's who they were. My husband kind of wondered why I appeared guarded. He followed my lead. He was glad he had he doesn't want her trying to get together again either. You can pick your friend's but unfortunately not your relatives held true in this one. We four were in the Caribbean from Canada! Not so small world. . . coordinator23 Posted October 13, 2013 #73 Share Posted October 13, 2013 DH and I went to dinner and found ourselves seated at the large, oval table by the stairs (lower level) in the MDR (it seats14). Way, at the other end we saw someone familiar, our next door neighbor! We hadn't seen her/talked to her in at least three months (living in a cold, snowy area will do that to ya) and had no idea she was cruising with us. cruise pup Posted October 13, 2013 #75 Share Posted October 13, 2013 My parole officer and I wasn't supposed to leave the country. Kidding!!! Actually, I ran into my dentist on one cruise. On 3 separate occasions, I was seated at a table with people who were at my table on previous cruises. Now what are the odds of that happening?!!!
