Diamonds and drink pkg.

Recommended Posts

Do any Diamond passengers or suite passengers buy a drink package? Next cruise for us will be diamond members in a Grand suite. We will undoubtedly buy the wine package. That will be a bottle of wine, the concierge lounge cocktail hour and three drinks at various venues each day. Any suite passengers or diamonds buying drink packages?

Those three drinks are only good during lounge hours though so it's kind of a wash

I was thinking that we would hit the concierge lounge for a before dinner drink, have a bottle of wine with dinner and a few drinks at the evening show. That with a few beers at the pool during the day is a LOT of alcohol. We usually have the wine pkg. and have been Diamond and concierge level for a long time. I was just wondering (curiosity) if anyone cruising at this level buys a drink package.

We don't. With what we can bring on board with wine and the complimentary drinks during the DC / CL cocktail hours the difference with what we pay other times for additional drinks wouldn't make a package worth while.

We are Diamond members, and have been buying the drink packages since they were introduced. The lounge hours are basically useless to us as that's our nap and get ready for the evening time - and we aren't big on the drink selection anyways. It has never been a big deal as a perk to us even before the drink packages....for us, soda or two, 4-5 bottles of water, pre-dinner cocktail, drink or two with dinner, one at the show and one or two at casino is pretty normal, and the drink packages work great to cover them all. The bottled water alone is worth it's weight in gold, I easily go through 4-5 a day, no prob.

So yea, some Diamond or suite or Diamond Plus members do indeed do the packages in spite of the perceived perk of the lounges. As the lounges don't fit in with our cruising style (nor will the now pre-loaded drink vouchers, although those will be a little better as we're also often traveling with friends), the drink packages work great for us. They are not for everyone, by any means - lots of people simply don't drink much alcohol or non-alcoholic beverages to make it worthwhile, and others take advantage of the lounge hours....to each their own.

Yes, some Diamond + do. Since the restriction was limited that all passengers in stateroom had to buy package, I have been buying for myself. It does depend on the itinerary, I wouldn't do it on port intensive cruise. Didn't buy it previously, due to wife would not drink enough to justify. Drink package has proven to still be worthwhile for me.

I absolutely buy the package. As previous poster said, the lounge hours are not usually convenient to my cruise schedule. I like to relax before dinner in the cabin. When traveling with friends, I will try to make some time to meet in the D lounge, but generally most of my beverages are consumed outside those hours.

My bar tab, pre packages, was always above the daily cost.

I cannot tell from your phrasing whether you know this: That restriction has been dropped.

No longer do both of you have to buy a package.

Yes, we did on I.O.S. just last week because it also includes the soda so it was very handy to have during the day at the pool as we had 6 sea days. It also gave us the freedom to be able to have a drink when ever it suited us and not be restricted to DL hours.

The 3 drinks on your sea pass card are only available in the evening during the CL hours, not throughout the day. I will always purchase the premium package.

I guess it depends on if you want to drink all day. I'm not a big drinker so I would never buy an alcohol package. CL hours are plenty for me.

I cannot imagine drinking pre dinner cocktails, half a bottle of wine, and several more drinks. Never mind beer at the pool.

We plan to purchase the Premium package and are in a suite on Allure. We just like the convenience of not worrying about when CL will be open and serving drinks. We will have the freedom to go get a drink anytime, anywhere non-alcoholic or alcoholic!

I just became a diamond member when I heard about the three drinks. I realized that since my dinner is at the 6pm seating, and we usually go to the even show, we most likely would not be able to take advantage of the three drinks.

I also heard they are limited and not open to any drink?

We are planning on buying the premium plan. Mostly for convenience so that we can try different things this cruise.

Of course, some cruisers buy the packages. While we personally feel that the D or D+ benefits provide enough alcohol for a moderate drinker, some cruisers will want the convenience of getting drinks when and where they want them - very understandable. However, this convenience can also be had by purchasing by the drink, so just be sure you plan to drink enough to make a package worthwhile.

Most ships allow about an hour before the early seating time for lounges to be open, or use of the 3 vouchers.

On a recent Freedom cruise, a drink menu was provided in the room. Included are many popular quality liquors, and about 5 wines and 5 beers. Cocktails included would be those made using simple mixers, nothing frozen.

A lot depends on when you do your drinking and what you drink. We never buy it (now D+) as we like the lounge drinks and then prefer non-house wine with dinner so we buy a wine package. On our last couple of cruises with our sons (D) we've bought it for them as they like the sodas during the day, a glass or two of wine with dinner but then will go to the club and stay up late, which is where they do most of their drinking.

Yes, we definitely still buy it. The limited selection of the CL/DL and the even more limited time frame make it a no-brainer for us.

I am with you we are diamond and was in a GS on last cruise, we did have a few drinks in CL and DL both were nice, but do not like be limited to those hours and those locations. Prefer drinking were there is some live music.

I would not buy the package even if I were not D+....the 1 or 2 drinks I "may" buy during the day don't add up to what the price per day would be for the package...just not a big drinker at all here...

Yes, I always buy the ultimate drinks package on my cruises.

Buying it works for us. The hours of the D lounge don't generally work for us & DH is not a good mixer so we keep to ourselves. With the availability of bottled water as well as alcoholic beverages, it's not difficult to get the value from it when on a cruise with plenty of sea days.

I agree too. I am not Diamond yet, but still buy the package even if I have the suite benefits. If and when I become Diamond, I will probably still buy it because of the limited hours mentioned previously. Just a moderate drinker on "dry land", but when it comes to cruising I like to enjoy a Bloody Mary to begin the day, a few tropical drinks by the pool, maybe a few more before dinner and later in the evening. We had the package on the Allure and it easily paid for itself, not even close.

We would never buy it even if we weren't diamond. We just don't drink that much of what's included. We're not coffee drinkers, don't drink during the day and have 2-3 glasses of wine before dinner or a bottle of wine with dinner, no drinks after dinner and only drink 2 diet cokes a day. Definatley would not get our money's worth out of it!
