Is making a 10:00 flight out of MIA possible?

We are returning on the Escape in February 27th. We currently have a 4:30pm flight back to PHL on AA. Looking at their current bookings they have a 10:00am flight with a lot of seats open, they also have a 12:15 and 2:30pm flight with a fair amount of open seats.

Has anyone made a 10:00am flight out? We would of course do walk off, run if needed to get to the airport and try and change our flight.

Thanks

Possible? Yes, if EVERYTHING works just right, but I wouldn't do it.

I would recommend the 12:15 flight. After a nice relaxing vacation why end it with the stress of wondering if you will make your flight on time? Miami airport is a zoo on Saturday mornings.

Thanks, yea.......my wife already gave me hell for even thinking about trying to make it. Last thing she wants to do is go running off the ship to catch an earlier flight LOL

Is it possible.....yes.

This is how it goes for us....We usually cruise in the Haven so that allows us first one's off the ship. We breeze thru customs, immigration and get the first taxis to the airport. We've always been to the airport by 9am. When you get to the airport at 9am on a Sunday there is no lines at all. We are TSA pre-check so even if there were, we would breeze thru that line. Me and my family could do a 10am flight if everything went as it has in the past for us. But, I would worry that something would go wrong, it might eat at me the whole cruise if I didn't have some sort of contingency plan.

I think you should just book the 12:15 flight so you don't have to worry about what if's.

Given what this poster said I wouldn't risk it. Even being first off the ship they only got to the airport an hour early... which is pushing it espeically if you have to check bags. One little snafu (getting picked for extra security for example, even in the TSA line your bag can be picked) and you are going to have to rush to make the start of boarding.

Thinking, "open seats" mean anything at this point is useless. Since it appears you have flexibility? (likely not nonrev??) Are you able to standby? Yes the early flights may have more open seats.

Possible?

Yes!

Likely?

No!

You really need to be at the airport no later than 8:45. Even doing walk off that is going to be difficult.

My last two cruises I did self-debark as soon as I could (around 7:30) and was to FLL by 8:30 and at my gate before 9 (with TSA precheck to help with that).

I think it would depend more on what airline you're flying, if you have to check luggage, and if you have precheck.

Do you like to be stressed? I would not do it.

On our last cruise this past January, we had priority disembarkation with Carnival in Miami. We were in the lounge waiting to leave the ship and there was this one man who was pacing. You could tell he was very antsy and stressed. Well, he finally approached the staff and asked them what time we would be off the ship. It took us extra time to be cleared to leave because there were a lot of people who had missed the ship in Miami and had to arrive late. Those people were the very first off the ship as they had to go through actual immigration. The man pacing told the staff he had a 9:30 flight out of MIA. Like dude, really? Why did you do that to yourself?

The ship was finally cleared around 7am but I would not have wanted to be in the taxi with him as they made their way to the airport. It was also the day of the Miami Marathon...

There's just so many things that can go wrong. Now, we had an 11:30 booked out of FLL and agains warnings we kept it and booked it anyways. We were quite lucky. We got there quickly, there was hardly a security line and we had tons of time to spare. But it just goes to show you, it can be so stressful!

We were on the Escape in January. I booked a 9:55 a.m. back to Chicago. We did the walk off, and were at the taxi stand by 7:45 a.m. Trip to MIA was less than 30 minutes. We were also on AA. It took about 30 minutes to check luggage and clear TSA. We were at the gate with an hour to spare.

That is a best case scenario!

The general consensus is why stress out after vacation if there is a glitch. Seems like more and more people are doing self-debarkation which slows the process down.

The 12:15 flight options is much better !

Hello, I went on the Epic in 2011 and did easy walk off and actually got to the airport by 8 and changed my (then at the time US Air) flight to Philly from 2PM to around noon.

I would say if you don't get easy walkoff and are in front then perhaps you should do noon.

I am going on the Escape in December and was looking at the schedule and will likely pick noon myself

We were on the Escape and made a 10 am flight out of MIA. But,,, it is a hassle. You have to be willing to do self-walk-off and queue early. I think that we got in line shortly before 7 am and there were several hundred people in front of us (the line snaking back from the O'Shehan's exit back into the casino). Once off, we were quick through customs, but hit a short queue at the taxi stand.

At the airport, a combination of priority check-in and TSA Pre-Check allowed us to get into the terminal quickly and to our gate.

I would have preferred to have a nice breakfast, still do self walkoff, but enjoy the last minutes of my vacation and not feel like we are in the amazing race trying to get on a plane. 12:15 is a better flight.

  • 3 weeks later...

FYI

We not only made it but had plenty of time to spare. We lined up at 6:30am got off the ship at 7:10, right thru customs, grab and cab and made it to the airport at 7:50am. We were in the terminal a few minutes later (American) it was crowded but we easily changed our flight to the 10:00am out to PHL. We had TSA Pre Check and were sitting in the terminal at 8:20 for a 9:30am boarding

Damn near ANYTHING is POSSIBLE. PROBABLY, not so much in fact it is more a case of highly unlikely.
