Lanyards from other cruise lines.

Is it considered tacky to wear lanyards from other cruise lines? We have six or seven of them' date=' and I would prefer not to buy any if I did not have to; but I also don't want my kids to be embarrassed.

I wouldn't care if someone noticed I was using a RCCL or Carnival lanyard. In the end, you almost certainly won't ever see any of these people ever again, so who cares? If any other kids give your kids a hard time, just teach them to say, "yup, Disney was a great cruise, and so is this one".

My partner and I were lying outside on the Escape Haven deck when the Hotel Manager walked by and was "pretend shocked" by my CelebritySummit baseball cap.

I told him the situation could easily be remedied if he replaced it with an NCL one.

Two arrived in our cabin the next day!

We were smart enough to be wearing them the next time he walked by!

On shore, passengers wear t-shirts from another port. On cruises, baseball caps from another cruise line. I never pay attention to lanyards, if you have one already, wear it. My husband has his from Road Scholar which is not even a cruise line!

How does someone get the hole punched in their keycard for the lanyard -- is this something guest services will do or do you experienced cruisers bring a punch? Lanyards were on sale today so I've already purchased :)

You can get it done at guest services or at casino services.

For safety reasons, only those with the breakaway feature - especially for children.

It's no different than wearing a T-shirt from another cruiseline or destination, can make for interesting conversation across the tables or while waiting in line, etc. But seriously, most don't pay attention & only if they are sharp with details - the newer ones from NCL are "loud" & don't want to get mistaken ashore for being off-duty, LOL :D for leave (or, free advertisement )

Not being at work or on-duty, don't need to have ID, badge & keys, etc. hanging on the neck while on vacation, IMO.

It's all in your mind. No one will notice or care.

There will always be someone 100x tackier than you on a cruise. Always!

While we don't like to wear lanyards, we had been given some to us over the years so I give them to our friends for their five grandchildren who were cruising with them.

They happily wore them and no one seemed to notice they were not from the cruise line they were sailing.

Bottom line: Just wear the ones you have and don't worry about it. ;)

Well, on my second cruise I stood in line a long time to get a hole punched in our cards. From then on, I've brought a hole puncher in my back pack. I take care of our cards while waiting to board the ship.

You can buy them them with the protective sleeve which just slides in.

Who cares.

Personally I think all lanyards are tacky.

But who cares.

As someone who may lose their keycard often I do prefer a lanyard and wear it under my shirt

Some lines now they are coming pre-punched.

My opinion is that it's tacky but don't care about that! It's your cruise, don't care what other people think about your lanyard.

Whatever you do punching holes in things DO NOT punch holes in the magnetic strip - you will in effect lock yourself out of your cabin and will not be able to use the key card in coming and going off the ship !

Also you will have to wait in line at Guest Services to get a replacement.

If you use one of those plastic sleevy things you will have to extract your key card out of that sleevy thing to enter your cabin and come and go off ship.
