Polonius Posted June 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2016 I have never played in a casino before. If I am in the ship's casino with a friend with a disability that does not gamble can they sit beside me while I gamble or do they have to be gambling as well? clcjdn Posted June 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Usually not a problem at all, if it gets super busy someone may ask if they can play a machine, but usually a non issue IMO Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
knotgillty Posted June 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Only time it would be an issue would be if your friend was not of legal gambling age. Otherwise, shouldn't be a problem.

Because ships casinos are Small, machines are Limited. It can get Very crowded and sometimes Not enough machines to play. If your friend is in a wheelchair, they can easily sit beside you on an End. Otherwise, take a chair & move it to one side of you, so your friend isn't blocking a machine that could be used by a player. Thank you for being so courteous. I am always intimidated to play in the casino because I felt I would do something "wrong" since I am new to it all. :)

Enjoy yourself, it's your money. If you have any questions most people will be happy to help you.
PraetorianGuard Posted June 25, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 25, 2016 You will know you are doing something wrong if people start leaving the table. I cannot tell you how many times I let help and they don't take it. I just move to another table.
Elaine5715 Posted July 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 3, 2016 If the casino is busy and you aren't playing a machine, you should stand or seat by the friend and not block a machine or use a machine seat. If the casino isn't busy, you can seat in front of a machine until someone asks you to move so they can play. And,yes, they may want to play that specific machine even though dozens may be open. You often see a couple (presumably) sitting side by side while one plays and the other just has a drink and chats.
taecruise2 Posted September 11, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 11, 2016 On a ship , there are not that many machines. You should not occupy a seat in front of a machine if you are not playing it. It's really annoying when people do that

Rare lazydayz Posted September 15, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 15, 2016 I agree. And even worse when you ask if you can play that machine and they get offended. OP, best to play a machine at the end of an aisle then friend can sit beside you without blocking any machines.

msmayor Posted September 18, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 18, 2016 Makes sense, thanks.I am always intimidated to play in the casino because I felt I would do something "wrong" since I am new to it all. :) A cruise ship casino is actually a great spot to learn. Every ship we've been on has had gaming lessons, just check the daily program for times. In addition, I find that the dealers are very patient and helpful with people who are new and most patrons are as well...after all, we all had to learn somehow. The one game I play on occasion where an inexperienced person can be intimidated can be blackjack, because the actions of everyone at the table really can affect the outcome of the hand. Knowing (based on odds) when to take a hit and when to stay is something that a regular player wants to see out of everyone at the table. People new at blackjack sometimes think they NEED to get as close to 21 as possible to win, but sometimes based on the cards showing your 14 is a winning hand if the dealer busts. Kind of watch what others are doing. All of us had a 1st time. Frequently the first time you win some money, pulling you in to play (lose) more. Sometimes the offer a class or two. Best lesson I ever learnt about Blackjack was "it's not about getting 21, it's about beating the dealer". I've seen people hit 18s...................... I've seen people hit 18s...................... Yep, I hit on soft 18 against a dealer 10 every time. Other players freak out. But, many basic strategies say to do this. Dealers almost always ask me if I'm sure, until they get to know me. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cb at sea Posted October 1, 2016 #20 Share Posted October 1, 2016 If a "non-player is of gambling age, they may be in the casino. Sometimes the wife stops by to see how I am doing. She sits at the seat beside me. Since I am playing both hands, no problem. ;)

Try the wizardofodds site. There are practise games on there, at least there are for blackjack. Lots of good advice as well.
