And then there's Dan France. What a fun and energetic guy. I'm not sure I buy the fact that he's only held the role of Cruise Director for a few short weeks. It all looked so natural.

I've never seen so many people gather along a promenade to witness a "welcome back" event. That guy must consume 10,000 calories a day to fuel his non-stop dancing and endless chatter with the crowd. I couldn't stop watching him. Neither could many others.

It never felt that it was about him. He was just there to have fun WITH us.

His rule over the White Hot Party was something else. Again - I couldn't stop watching. The crowd grew until the end.

Dan was assistant CD the last time we were on the Dawn and he was great back then I am so happy that he is now CD because he deserves it.

Hi Doug,

You mentioned posting the dailies once you were home. Did I miss them? Can you tell me the page number for them or the links? I sail in just over a week so really excited to start visualizing my daily plans, thanks.

Hi Doug. Really enjoyed your review. Hoping I can pick your brain for a few Dawn related questions. I'm on the Dawn for a NYE cruise.

1. Do you recall the weather on the first sea day? I remember you posting an image of the ships position and it looked to be half way across the gulf. Warm to be outside by afternoon in a sheltered area?

2. And can you give me an idea of when the ship was along side the pier in New Orleans? The itinerary says 8 am but we all know cruise ships tend to be back in port much sooner. My guess is they will slow down and stay in int'l waters to keep the casino open on the last sea day and then transit into port in the wee hours. I have an early flight and need to disembark asap.

Thanks.

The first sea day was VERY windy for us. If it had been calm, the forecast of 78 degrees would have made for a nice day out on deck. The wind returned on the last sea day as well. Maybe that's typical for the pass through the gulf? Not really sure.

It appeared that we came to a stop just prior to 6am. I honestly don't know when the all-clear was announced, but when we leisurely walked off (with priority disembarkation) at 7:20am, it appeared others were already off ahead of us. At that point in the morning, getting through customs took no more than 5-10 mins.

We arrived at the airport at 7:50am, and checked our bags and made it through security and to the gate by 8:10am.

Have a great trip!

Oh, one last thing. Does Louisiana tax drinks while in US waters like Texas? Looks like a long transit to the Gulf of Mexico.

Not sure about the tax amount but it certainly is not handled the way it is in Texas. All drinks were available (not limited like in Texas till you get to open waters), your in cabin fridge is not locked up. Although this experience was from March 2012. I do not think we had the Ultimate Drink package back then so maybe things changed. We will be returning to sail on the Dawn in March. Personal opinion it seemed more hassle than it was worth when we sailed out of Houston. Could be one of many reasons NCL pulled out of Houston.

I was wondering if the time that I see on the NCL itinerary for arrival time to Grand Cayman... is that local time?? I want to book a tour but not sure if the times are local times.

Yes it is. they change the clocks at sea to match the local time.

The US dollar is accepted is most ports.

If there is going to be an overnight TIME CHANGE your cabin steward will

leave you a NOTICE with the next day Daily advising so. Look for further

info by viewing your in cabin TV or call Guest Services - your in cabin

telephone can help.

The only time piece you need to change is your own wrist watch unless it

does it's own time change by GPS signal.

Now, to be totally selfish, when is your next adventure and will you promise to include us?

We are on the Epic next May loved your live review and can't wait to follow you again. When will that be?

Last week I booked the MSC Divina for next summer, which Sue and I planned on giving to our kids for xmas (shhh... don't say anything).

I posted some questions over on the MSC board, and a few people chimed in - asking what the hell I was thinking. So after some thought, this morning we simultaneously booked a return to the Escape, which just so happened to be a Western Caribbean itinerary (Maya Chan, anyone?). It's a whopping $200/room price difference total, all-in.

I guess time will tell whether I choose MSC or the District Brew House & Maya Chan. :)
