I was told by a high ranking rccl employee that Recently Royal Caribbean experimented with two cruises that had a no smoking rule for the casino for the entire trip. This was an experiment to see if it would impact profitability. It should negative results accordingly to this employee, was any one on this cruise that subscribes to cruise critic? If so please let me know what ships and trips and your opinion.

Well I can tell you i went on empress in October. They had no smoking because there is no air in the casino. That is what was told to me. The casino was small. I am a smoker and I saved a lot of money [emoji106]. I can also say that many of us who were smokers did not play as much and to be honest the casino was dead most of the time. Now I don't know if that's because the nonsmoking or because the casino was much smaller than normal or because the no air or combination of all of it. As a smoker. I don't mind the non smoking casinos because again I save myself money. I don't know if this was the cruise ship they told you about or if it was another ship.

I do remember a poster a few weeks back commenting on their cruise, not Empress, having a smoke free casino. Nobody knew until they boarded. Obviously this led to a number of unhappy people. If people knew ahead of time I wonder if it would have made a difference? I am sure someone will speak up shorty.

I was told similar info by a Club Royale Senior Representative.

We were on Enchantment later Sep early Oct, and no smoking was allowed at the bar...

It was my impression that Royal was experimenting with no smoking bars. I am aware Empress is non smoking.

I get a call now once a week from Club Royale. One thing we discuss is smoking in the casino (except two formal nights). First, I complain about SMOKING at the bar and NOT PLAYING.

One thing at a time.... I was formally invited into Club Royale after our last 11 night cruise on Serenade. It was smoking and very few people in the casino. I don't think it has anything to do with smoking anymore.

So, I will continue to tackle one level at a time. We are also booked on the Presidents Cruise in September and this will be a major topic for Michael Bayley, and one of the main reasons we booked this cruise in a Suite.

SMOKERS are going to say anything and everything to keep their smoke polluting habit. I really believe it will be the safety of the crew in the casino that will stop smoking in the casino.

I would say continue to save your money as you will need it later for medical issues.

I am pretty sure all sailings out of Australia are smoke free in the casino - and the casinos have been full of punters on ships I have been on. Including me!

(unlike the Oasis out of FL last year, where I saved a lot of money because I couldn't bear the smoke in the casino).

And I understand that many, if not all, Celebrity ships have nonsmoking casinos.

I won't even set foot in the casino if smoking is allowed. Looking forward to craps on Celebrity next year.

Interesting times are ahead. Casinos are largely the only places allowing indoor smoking in most of the US. This is thanks to powerful lobbying by big tobacco, casino owners, and native american groups. I'm wondering if Trump is going to be anti-lobbyist and push to ban smoking, or be the casino owner he is and push to keep it, or be anti-regulation altogether and push to eliminate nonsmoking rules everywhere.

Thanks for the response. I would like to provide more response on my inquiry. I sent an email to Michael Bailey several months ago and surprisingly got an email response which included a phone number (strange, I admit) anyway he said they would try a few cruises with no smoking in the casino and review. How it went. Not sure it was Michael but hopefully it was. He said it didn't go well. Your opinions are well respected.

All Celebrity cruises are nonsmoking in interior spaces (that includes casino & bars). Costs me considerably more on Celebrity in the casino than on Royal. I don't go near a Royal casino unless I'm forced thru it by something I want to get to on the other side. I despise feeling like an ashtray & yes I'm a former smoker

It works on Celebrity. We were on Summit in July and the casino was very busy even with it being non-smoking. I loved the fact I could actually breathe and not walk out smelling like an ashtray. Those who think the casino isn't as busy really aren't paying attention. A lot of the people in the casino smoking aren't actually playing, just smoking on RCI ships we've been on. I saw multiple people standing around and others sitting on slot chairs smoking but not actually playing any games. So, while there may be more people in when smoking is allowed, that doesn't mean it's impacting revenue especially since the percentage of people who smoke is around 15% of the population and dropping. It dropped from 17.8% in 2013 to 16.8 in 2014. Personally, I wish they'd set up a room with sealed doors where smokers could go and inhale each other's smoke as well as their own and not impact those of us who don't want to because we know better for our own health.

I was on Liberty OTS last week and spend the majority of my spare time in the casino playing cards. Since the tables don't open until noon, I would play a few slots. It was amazing how many people were reading their kindles or drinking coffee while smoking.

Royal Caribbean should require those who are smoking to gamble and kick out those who don't. That would weed out the majority of the smokers.

Casinos in Vegas are so large that the smoke isn't as noticeable. Casinos on cruise ships aren't large enough to mask the smoke.

Is their anybody out there who can comment on the Asian Cruises relating to smoking on balconies and/or the casino? From what I've heard smoking is allowed in those areas, and if that is the case every trip report I have read is wonderful and I have never read about smoking, smells, etc.

They did a 3 week experiment on the Majesty by restricting smoking in the casino. It didn't go well. Revenue dropped significantly. It was like a ghost town. They reverted back to the way it was, it was packed every night, and the revenue increased. Imagine that.

And I would say keep your thoughts on my health to yourself. I am older and in perfect health. I am not interested in your useless thoughts on my PERSONAL habits. Just as i would not comment on yours !!!

Three weeks tells them absolutely nothing. They'd need to try this for several months with word out that a ship has a smoke free casino and see what the results really are. I'd bet if you asked around, a majority of people onboard had no idea it was smoke free because a lot of people don't pay attention. So, why does it work on Celebrity? Probably because it is known and the Summit casino was packed when we were onboard. Having been on both lines, the clientele is pretty much the same.
