Many of the cruise directors I've sailed with have faded into the ether of time, but Richard Spacey is seared into my memory as the most cringeworthy. We had him as cruise director on the Celebrity Equinox and he was attractive and inoffensive and performative in the most CD way possible (British, really into socks), with one off-putting exception.

Richard ended every *single* onboard announcement by whispering "oh, and one more thing... I love you" into the PA system in a creepy little kid voice. You'd be at the pool, and he pops up with the afternoon announcements like  "We've got bingo, and karaoke, and archery, so go out and have a great day... oh, and one more thing... I WUV U!!" 

The first time it happened we thought we misheard him, only later realizing it was some sort of schtick. We also thought we were the only people who thought it was weird until it came up chatting with strangers at the bar. The whole thing was so oddly unprofessional, it has completely altered the curve on "bad" cruise directors for me.

Some CD's have headed out to ships now. From what I have seen:

  • Hugo Arenas on Adventure
  • Joff Eaton on Anthem
  • John Blair on Serenade
  • Brian Leavitt on Symphony
  • Mitch Merucci on Quantum

 

Marc Walker is also on a ship (possibly Allure?).

Yep, Marc Walker confirmed on FB today  he’s on The Allure.

look him up on FB. He’s one of our favorite CDs. We’ll see him in August. Not sure if he will be there in December.

If you ever hear ‘Bing Bong’, that’s him.  He’s very personable and you see him everywhere.   I’ve been lucky enough to have him as my CD a couple of times. Hoping to have him again in October.

It was fun following him and his life during the cruise lock down.  Very nice guy.  We were on this last cruise on Majesty, would welcome him as CD on any future cruise.
