Smokers a problem on Mariner

Lol sure.

On our flight back from Germany the guy across the aisle from us was a semi-professional wrestler according to his shirt. His biceps looked like thighs and his thighs looked like tree trunks. I'm 6' and he had several inches on me. Looked like he could bench 500lbs easy. If the PP looks like him I can see why no one would think about telling him to **** off. In any event there are many people that have that look although I am no longer one of them.

I hope this won't be an issue on a 7 day cruise. DW has asthma attacks if she is exposed to too much smoke. I understand not wanting to upset guests but there are two guests involved in this case so one of them is bound to be upset, why not upset the one actually breaking the rule?
Exactly although it might be the one breaking the rules might not be as nice to the crew as you are.

Awesome idea. Thanks for this suggestion. It drives me batty to deal with inconsiderate smokers. If they choose to make themselves ill that is their choice. But it is totally irresponsible and infuriating to make people that choose not to smoke have to deal with smoke.
I totally agree.

Because i am not the type of person that anyone would ever attempt to confront like that. I don't have the look or demeanor where anyone would just flippantly tell me to **** off.

I am the dude that "asks" people to get off their phones during a movie and they comply no questions asked. I am the dude where people might act "aggressive" to my lady friends and then when I show up they are get quiet as church mice and move on.

If someone was smoking in a non smoking area and I said something to them I promise they would not tell me to **** off. They don't want that... lol

:loudcry:

They need you as a security officer on board.

Because.....

Physical confrontations are frowned upon, verbal not as much. [emoji6]

No confrontation should be allowed, verbal or physical as it is uncomfortable for other people nearby.

Someone bumped into me once on a ship and said something to me as if it was my fault.

I looked him in the eyes for about 30 seconds but didn't say anything,he scurried away saying nothing more.

Prevention is better than any confrontation and someone like you just mentioned is a classic.

I have done the 4-day Mariner cruise and then went back and did the weekend cruise. There was a HUGE difference in the whole attitude and vibe on the weekend cruise. At one point watching a pool deck activity, I told my husband that I could not believe this was a RC Cruise. It was like being on a Spring Break cruise but this was 2nd weekend in September!

No matter what cruise line you patronize, weekend cruises will typically (but not always) have a "different" flavor to them versus 4 day and above. Our first cruise (Husband, Daughter & Me) was a weekender in late May 2015. We all found the drunk folks to be hilarious (at least they were HAPPY drunks :')), and we did not allow them to interfere with our fun and relaxation. Of course, my husband has a similar demeanor as gammite. The way that you conduct yourself in public and in private will always speak first and louder.

It is not necessarily the length of the cruise or ship. We sailed a 12 night on Anthem in a Spa JS. The folks in the GS next door were smoking on their balcony and playing very loud music. We politely asked them to be more considerate of the rules. They said they were on their honeymoon and told us to F### O##. Next step was a complaint to Guest Services. No action from them. Then we called Security. They did not show up to our knowledge. This couple's behavior continued throughout the cruise. It limited our use of our own balcony. Other surrounding cabins complained too. Were the rules not enforced because they were in a GS? Who knows. But RCCL seems to have a non-confrontation policy. So why even set rules? I've mostly switched to Celebrity where there is no smoking in the casinos and a more responsive security team.

We had loud people on the balcony next to ours last year playing a very loud DVD.

I put YouTube music on my phone and selected Vera Lynn White Cliffs of Dover what we usually play at home for MILs dementia.

After about 30 seconds of my awful voice singing along (lol)they grunted something and turned off their DVD and we never saw or heard from them again.

I like your style. I'd do the same, but I'd pick something more obnoxious, like tunak tunak tun (any 90s kid will know)

I've often wanted to whip out a can if Lysol and spray it in their direction when they do this!

Not particularly proud of this but in Vegas once I was starting a sniffley sneezy cold but was in a fairly deserted area of the casino discretely sniffling into a tissue when some jerk sat right next to me, put his nasty ashtray on my side and proceeded to chain smoke. Again, no one else in the whole area. So, what else could I do but direct my heavy duty sneezes right at him. Got a dirty look to which I sweetly responded, sorry, sensitive to smoke. If you continue to smoke, I’ll continue to sneeze. He left.

Our first cruise, 1989 out of Miami, was a weekend. Good times. Got a cruise baby.
