Reflection v Silhouette

Hi there - We're looking at cruises for 2020 and have sailed on the Silhouette and have an upcoming cruise on the Edge. We are really interested in an itinerary offered on the Reflection.

Obviously nothing compares to the Edge, but what significant differences will we notice between the Silhouette and Reflection?

Thanks!

On the positive side, Reflection has a redesigned Sunset Bar with enhanced views of the aft wake.  On the negative side, Reflection greatly diminished the beautiful soaring Sky Lounge.  It is not the high wall of windows with a panoramic ocean view the other Solstice Class ships enjoy.  The extra passengers Reflection carries means more crowding at certain times and venues.

There are a couple of differences.  First the Sky Lounge is cut nearly in half on the Reflection.  Plus, there is a noticeable increase in the number of passengers.  Very noticeable if sailing Aqua Class.

We like Silhouette but are trying Reflection later this month because timing on Silhouette did not work.  I've read about the overcrowding on Reflection but she does have the LCG and Porch which we enjoy.

We just had to learn to adjust our schedules on Reflection...if we wanted a drink in the Passport, Casino, Ensemble Lounge or Martini Bars just before 6...(at least on our sailings) forget it.  Totally full with the Early Seating MDR crowd.  OK, so we learned to go get that drink at Sunset, OV, Pool, Mast Bar....  We learned to make MDR reservations even though we were Select Dining.  We found other venues to enjoy sailaway than the Sky Lounge.

Have cruised on both this year. Since Reflection has an entire extra deck of cabins but the dining and entertainment venues are the same, it’s more crowded and I found service to be less attentive because of that. You especially feel it in places like Luminae and the pool deck.

Although I haven't sailed on Silhouette, Reflection vs Equinox (Equinox being almost identical to Silhouette) I found Reflection to be far more crowded, and lacking. Besides the Sky Lounge being cut, I don't like how there's no Quasar on Reflection. The Entertainment Court area doesn't provide a whole lot of entertainment.

We have sailed the Reflection four times and the Equinox, Silhouette and Solstice

Is it me or is anyone else have trouble getting on to this roll call. It took me more than 15 minutes and then had to jump through all kind of hoops just to get to this page

each twice and, frankly, differences are too few to quibble about.

And, as mentioned the biggest difference to us is that they replace the Quasar disco on Silhouette with a conference room on Reflection...still scratching my head on that one.

I haven’t seen Quasar used on any ship as an actual nightclub since maybe 2014. They reduced its size on all S-clsss ships that offer it in order to add a larger future booking office. And the remaining club I have only seen with ping pong tables in it during the day and empty at night since then. I do cruise on sailings though that are predominantly seniors so perhaps the club is active on sailings when there are more younger people onboard??

TexSea, please comment on the features of Persian Gardens some more on the Reflection if you have sailed her recently. I have been trying to find updated info and can't. Sailing on Reflection on Dec 21st and would like to know if the PG were updated since Dec 2017.... Thank youThe Persian Gardens are larger on Reflection than on Silhouette (and I think the other S-class) and has a couple of extra features.

What is a hamman, please? We will be in Aqua class on Reflection in Feb.

Hammam is a turkish type steam room with wet steam at a comfortable temperature (nowhere near as hot as Swedish dry sauna or infrared sauna (175- 185 F)). Normally they will have a eucalyptus scent added, too which clears your nasal cavities. If you ever visit Turkey, they have the best massages available that include hammams with specific rituals. I love Persian Gardens and spend  at least 1 hr there after working out every single day on a cruise.

On Reflection there are twice as many heated loungers, an ice/cold room, the sauna is a wood sauna vs. a tiled one and has the clear windows overlooking the water, and the steam room (the hamman) is larger with individual marble(?) seats. I think there's a separate aromatherapy steam room, but not certain.

I haven't been on Reflection in a while, but a friend in the last year has and said it hadn't changed from what I could tell.

Thank you very much. It sounds like they still have all the regular things.  Hopefully, they at least refinished the area:)

Our experience has been the opposite.  There have always been things like 70's party, disco nights and karaoke in Quasar on each of our Solstice class cruises since 2010.
