My mom just reminded me...The SUN CRUISE LINES. They were a smaller company. Just several hundred guests on board. Ships names were Stella Maris and Stella Solaris. They may have had other ships in their cruise line but those two I remember. We left Athens and cruised the islands."

We are only entering our 10th year of cruising & miss things. 

The ice bucket in cabin being filled w/o prompting. 

Definitely miss the included Cappuccino & Espresso in the MDR. 

Steel drum bands on deck. 

Turkey on a country roll deli Sammo. 

We miss the staff being happier & friendlier and not so overworked and sweaty.  

Entirely free 24/7 room service is greatly missed too. 

None of these alone are a dealbreaker but the cuts are adding up and the cruise fare + gratuities continue to rise. 

Sadly, that “special”  cruise feeling is fading away a bit with each cruise.

I took 2 cruises with friends when we were 19 years old in 1980,1981. When we docked in ports we would get off and check out the other ships to see what single girls were on them. Back then the ships would not sail till late at night and we would party in the disco. It was a whole different feel back then. Suits at dinner every night. no lido deck buffet. As you came on board they checked your names off the manifest and had a crew member escort you to your cabin. Skeet shooting off the fan tail. Cabin party with our parents for 2-3 hours before they had to leave the ship. Such a safe environment back then.

I miss the white table clothes and decorative plates Remember the plates had color pictures I remember asking my kids about the people on side of those plates. The  Memories of the old times..

Wow!  All of the fun stuff from the good old days have literally disappeared from my memory until I read through this post.  This was a great read and brought back lots of fond memories.   Thanks everyone for sharing!  🚢⚓

They still do that, at least on every cruise that I have been on.

I miss the topless deck, ice buckets in the cabin, midnight buffet, deck parties most nights, and good entertainment.    Most of all I miss the feeling of being not reachable or off the grid (before cell phones and email).

The old style production shows and the captain celebration where me and my wife were introduced to the captain as we entered the main lounge. Back than cruising was a luxury vacation.

For me, it wasn’t about the baked Alaska — it was the presentation!  Waiters with the flaming dessert on their head dancing through the dining room.

Haven’t cruised Carnival in many years.  Looking to book again.  No Ice buckets, tablecloths, or chocolates? When did that happen? Can you get your own ice?

Tablecloths on the two cruise elegant nights...ice in a bucket needs to be requested from your cabin steward.  Some stewards will try to get away with cabin service once per day as well.

For those missing chocolates you could always buy your own bag of minis to bring aboard...

We miss the table side Caesar salad, live bands for the shows and a better guest to staff ratio.  Also, paying cash for BINGO cards.

I don’t want to say all but a fair amount for sure.!  I do miss the afterdinner espresso and caps!
