One person buys CHEERS and the other BUBBLES package?

My apologies if this is asked all the time but I could not find the threads.  I may be going on a cruise in Sept with my mother.  I always get a drink package but my mother can't drink because of medication and diabetes.  When I went on RC a year or so ago with her, I was able to call and buy myself a drink package and her a non-alcoholic package.  Has anyone been able to do something similar on Carnival?

Unfortunately Carnival is very strict with this policy. Options are both of you get the Cheers Drink package, or just get your mother the Bubbles package and then you pay for your own drinks.  Cheers for both of you would be $108.90 a day.  Bubble is $8.50.  So unless you plan to order $100 of drinks per day by yourself, you are better off just buying your drinks as you go.

Thanks-this is what I thought but I have not traveled Carnival in ages so I was not sure how strict they were.

But if the mom can’t drink due to medical reasons, would that exempt her from having to purchase the Cheers?

Put the $50/day into a bar cash credit or onboard credit for you to use. Then you can have drinks and pay for it upfront 🙂

Carnival’s policy is no exceptions to their rule that everyone 21 and over in the same cabin must buy Cheers. We met a couple on Horizon in March who didn’t get Cheers, because Carnival wouldn’t make an exception for the woman who had a letter from her doctor stating she couldn’t drink because she was pregnant.

 

I can understand Carnival’s perspective because if word got out that letters/notes from doctors could get you out of being required to buy Cheers, no doubt there would be a huge increase in these types of letters/notes.  Having said that, I am sure on occasion Carnival has made an exception to this rule.

Onboard credit is the way to go, Bar Cash is non-refundable and can only be used for drinks.

Does the Carnival position that all adults have to buy Cheers really make sense? If there is a limit of 15 drinks why does it matter if people share a few drinks? It seems that most people on here are always trying to find way to buy more drinks so why would these folks share their 15 drinks anyway? ( I know this is a little off topic.)

because its not a limit of 15 drinks... its all the drinks YOU can drink with a maximum of 15. so if you only drink 8, that thats it. The reason is because they build the cost into the average of how many people drink and if suddenly everyone hit the 15 max, the price would go up SIGNIFICANTLY .

 

for example if , for a 6 month period of time, the average drinks consumed by someone is 8, then they look at that number to see if they have the right price point. If the average went to 11 or 12 or even 15.... the price would go WAY up.

Yes it makes sense to Carnival in the monetary position. Kinda like going to a buffet , just because it's all YOU can eat for a fixed price. Not to feed 2 or more people for 1 price.

 

Carnival knows the price point needed to profit.

 

Alcohol and the Casino are the 2 biggest money makers cruiselines have. They have stated that on a TV show years ago.

Keep in mind Cheers was designed to benefit Carnival, not passengers.  Carnival makes money from Cheers because the average person does not drink close to 15 drinks every day of the cruise (I am positive Carnival knows the exact number). If people were allowed to share drinks, the average number of drinks consumed per person with Cheers would significantly increase, which would decrease the profit Carnival makes from Cheers.

I don’t understand why you don’t cruise on RCCL, which has exactly the drink package you have mentioned on this board numerous times. One of the great things about cruising is there are a lot of cruise lines out there, which gives the consumer plenty of options when deciding what cruise to book. If “refresh” is as important to you as you you have made it appear on this site, the best thing to do is book a cruise on a cruise line that has this drink package.

Because RCCL restricts teens after 1AM to their cabin, speaking of the cabin it’s SMALL! Plus, it’s just more expensive overall which totally exceeds the cost of just buying Cheers.

As stated, the policy is set to maximize profits for Carnival.  So what you have to do is determine how much just the one of you would drink. Drinks cost $8.25 and up, while beers are around $6.00 a piece. If one person would drink more than $108 per day, then Cheers is best even with only one drinking. The other person would still get the benefit of coffee, sodas, milk-shakes, power aide, waters etc.

 

If not, just by the drinks as you go. Remember, port days you may or not be able to reach your 15 drink limit assuming you go ashore.

What is "Refresh" I don't see that as an option on RCCL.

Should use that Excel file to see what the actual break even point is with one person drinking booze and one drinking the other things.  The OP doesn't actually have to hit the $108 number themselves...

I was actually referring to the possibility of Carnival implementing a new beverage package that Royal has. Like, in pertinence to this thread, Carnival would allow one person to buy Cheers, and then another person to by this so-called "Refresh"

since ever, never heard of this. It's not hard to get a doctors note, have you seen people jogging out of a handicap space.

As stated above, the potential for abuse is simply too great if Carnival allowed medical exceptions.

 

The only REAL way to get around having each adult buy Cheers is this (and I've done it several times):  Cruise with children, book multiple rooms, and split the adults into separate rooms.  That way, each adult is on a booking with minors, and is free to either buy or not buy Cheers independent of the other adult in the party.  It's legit, and Carnival is 100% OK with it, because you're on separate bookings (even if the rooms are connecting).   (I do this because my husband gets Drinks on Us at the casino...and doesn't need Cheers...but this way I can get it!)

 

However...that only works for those of us that cruise with enough kids to need multiple rooms.  And let's face it...we need a drink!!!!

Why? Carnival is in the business of making money, and there are people on here who buy cheers for the convenience factor, even though they know they won’t break even. If people who are on here doing research for cruises, don’t you think there are many more cruisers who do less research doing the same? If Carnival implemented a middle package, that profit margin would be cut since people could use the package for all the non alcoholic drinks and buy drinks individually.
