To be sure you don't miss out on the perks of your status and assuming your nephew has the same surname, can you not 'register' him as living with you? ie an 'extra' child ha ha  He'll automatically pick up your status then and be able to join you. For what he'd drink/eat it's nominal I would have thought and you can all stay together as a family unit!

 

Before someone jumps down my throat stating that it's wrong etc .. there's plenty of people who spend all their time in said lounges drinking like they're running out of booze and he'd alter the age demographic remarkably!

 

Besides which, by the time he's an adult and able to throw free booze down his neck, said lounges won't exist anymore! They occupy too much valuable real estate on the ships and it's obvious that RCCL are concentrating all their endeavours on the millennials and their children! 

 

I say go for it!

this whole status thing is nonsense anyway! I got married last year and the 1st cruise my wife did she instantly gained my status .. so what's the difference?  he's a child, and they want to have their perks but probably don't want to leave him on his own. There's no harm in it .. seen it loads of times over the years people bringing adults friend/relatives into the respective lounges ..

Big difference. If it has to be explained to you, you wouldn't understand. Diamond and up is not a status. It's a paid for perk/benefit for cruising with RC and Celebrity. The problem is the DLs are becoming increasingly overcrowded on some cruises. I can't speak for the OP but they can always enjoy their C&A drinks in another lounge/bar if they don't want to leave the kid alone. As you have said RC does allow diamond and above to escort non diamond above into the DL as long as they are living at the same address. I'm sure some even lie about that. If the kid is diamond thru his parents he has every right  to be in the DL anytime of day or night.

If the DL is not crowded it's not a big deal, but it is not a "status thing". It is a perk that many have earned by being loyal.  If I can't get a seat in the lounge because of non diamond "guests"  that is not fair to me.

We've seen DL hosts refuse or ask those that are brought in that are not allowed in the DL to leave. Even when the DL isn't crowed. Kudos to them.

No wonder so many passengers  are Diamond and up.  When benefits are cut to those who rightfully paid for them by taking many cruises,   we can all wonder why.

You’d better tell him that you don’t get access to the lounge until the cruise after that as your points and status change are not granted until after the cruise is completed.

I earned it the same way!  But my wife didn't ... neither did her son - all 3 of us are about to have a + added on too!

 

Tell me where that system is fair and rewards people who've 'paid' their way?

How can it be benefit if it's given to people that haven't paid for it?  Whether that's because they've been born with it, or married into it?

Have you even asked the nephew if he wants to join you in the DL? Our 15yr old (who is D+ due to my status but D on her own sailings) often prefers to just hang with friends in the teen lounge or our cabin, and just meet us for dinner.

I didn't say the program is perfect. But it is what it is and doesn't need to be abused either.  Both of us paid for our tier levels at the same time by cruising together. If married into the tier level or a kid of parents I see that is a no biggie. But telling the OP to lie about the nephew living at the same address as you did or others wanting to bring a friend or relative in the DL no way. I'm glad RC draws the line there. BTW you don't even need to be married. Just living at the same address.
