How does one sharpen the pencil......With a plastic pencil sharpener?  Typical solving one problem by creating another one.

I would suppose that you would go down to guest services for a pencil sharpen? 🙂

Anyways they would probably just give you another pencil?

I suppose I will just bring a pen from my precruise hotel...

Can we also get the Big Chief tablets to write on that we had in the 3rd grade ? 🙂

This change makes me think that X is trying to save pennies and not realizing how ridiculous the change is.  Many of their changes are about reducing costs and not about improving the cruiser experience.

Hell no way I'm standing in line for a pencil.  Worse case if we forget a pen we can always leave a note on the mirror with DW's lipstick.

So funny!  I was on the Equinox a few weeks ago and there were no pens or pencils in my cabin. I went to guest services to ask for one and I was told than I could borrow a pencil for a few minutes but they had no pens at all. Then, the guest services rep started to frantically search for her bic pen.  She realized the last guest walked away with it.   She frowned and said now I too have to use a pencil!  After a few minutes she was able to locate a pencil that I could use but I couldn’t take it away from her counter area because it was the only one she had!   I was shocked!  It was a great cruise but this left me feeling like wow! Cutbacks!  If this was done for environmental reasons guest services should explain that!  I heard several other guest complaining about the lack of pens.
it’s certainly not a big deal but free pens with celebrity written on them are inexpensive marketing tools.
I will make sure to bring my NCL pens on my next sailing😎

They may not have held true to "Modern Luxury" but "Wonders Await "is dead on. There is a new surprise every time I sign on to this board.

I really do not understand the big Hoo-Ha over the pencils.  Ours wrote perfectly fine, we used it on the sudoku's and notes we took during the cruise.  We do not feel it is a big deal that crappy pens are gone.  Even the top Hotel chains are replacing pens with pencils.  Our favorite change has been found in a Hilton Hotel.  They have replaced the plastic pens with a paper based pen.  the less plastic we all consume, the better.

I would prefer a paper pen over a pencil.  I would rather a quill and ink well over a pencil that doesn't have an eraser and a pencil sharpener.

Unbelievable....4 pages about Pens and pencils...

I ALWAYS have my own pens, BUT THAT is not the point...It's just another CHEAPENING  The pens re ADVERTISING and a SOUVENIR..

Whoever thought this was a saving, is making a big mistake...it's a MARKER.. (pun intended)

Must be a recently promoted executive who needed to make a "SHOW"

Sorry Celebrity, you screwed up on this one....

I am left-handed and do not like to write with a pencil, for that reason and others, including that I don't want to stand in line to get it sharpened.

It's incredibly silly to pin the survival of the planet on plastic pens. 🙄

On the 1/24/2020 cruise aboard the Equinox, we wanted to pay the $25pp to have our luggage sent directly to our home airport. Needed a pen (NOT a pencil) to fill out the important form required. Guest services handed us a pencil....

Our room steward, Leroy, provided us with a pen to finally fill out the form.

Will carry my own pen when we're back on the Equinox on March 14th since pens are now apparently non existent on X!

If people didn't steal those cheap pens perhaps the cruise line wouldn't have removed them.

I know, I know , they are a nice souvenir of their 47th cruise and they have the cruise line's logo on them.

IMO--- That's a dumb as tipping a dealer in a casino . LOL-- has a dealer ever tipped a player when they lose ???

Please tell me they haven't taken away half & half.  We had the hardest time getting said cream on sister line RCCL last month.

I waited 20 minutes for cream for my coffee and by then required a new coffee.

Or you take the pencil to the MDR and sharpen it with your steak knife. 🤣

Just dont use the knives at le petit chef. Some one tried to cut their steak and chef said knives were dull. I think steak was tough. 😁

Cheap branded items (pens, stationary) are considered promotional items everywhere in the world.  They certainly never discouraged anyone from taking them.  There is a note about not taking robes and blankets.  They could just as easily add "pens" if that were really the intention.

That also doesn't explain why the front desk wouldn't have pens.
