Ahhhhhh but she was probably in England, not Wales, Scotland or Ireland (Either part). A bit like saying you went to Texas even if you were in Calafornia (nearest example I can think of) no one would be offended if you said you went to the USA, when you were in California or if you said k when in England, but if you said you were in Texas while in California I imagine they would just as if you say England while in Wales.

i hope that makes sense anyway.

She was at Middlesex University .This was in the late 90’s.

T.I.L. - Scotland is not its own island 😳

I don't know why, but I had always thought Scotland was a separate land mass.  I think I knew England and Wales bordered each other.

How did you think trains ran from London to Edinburgh?

Hadrian’s Causeway.

I'm not sure if you are winding me up or not!

Just in case you are serious, I assume you mean Hadrian's Wall, built 1800 years before the railway was invented.

Not a Brit, but I was also disappointed in the Fish and Chip lunch.  Too many chips/fries (that were 'meh' flavor/doneness), and I make a much better Scotch egg at home.

“...a much better Scotch egg...”. — makes me wonder .    I suppose ANYTHING, no matter how awful, can be made “better” -  but there are some things better just left alone - and far off my plate.

Scotch Egg - a fantastic product. Obviously you need to use free range pork and eggs, both of which are normal in the UK.

Hadrian was a prescient fellow.  Those Romans built some great stuff... we have little of it over here.

Please — let this drop.  We all know that basic courses like geography get neglected in US schools.

If I haven't been someplace I suck at knowing where it is. Thankfully we've driven around England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. And all were great.

I had to construct a flow chart, but yeah, it makes sense!   👍😄

And all this time I thought it had something to do with when Frodo tossed the ring into Mt. Doom.  😄😄😄

Seriously, thanks for the link.  I learned something new!

I've not had the pleasure yet of visiting and had no reason to see/know where the trains ran.  I'm sure there are other geography items I have in my mind that are totally different than reality.

Are we talking about the same food?  Sausage and egg doesn't seem that weird/awful to me but I recognize we all have different tastes.

Mine is a hardboiled egg wrapped in loose breakfast sausage, dipped in an egg wash and coated with seasoned breadcrumbs, then baked (many recipes fry) until sausage cooked.

Scotch eggs - yes, exactly as you describe. Sold in every supermarket in the UK.

You folk didn’t get trains until the 1920’s?

Yes, sorry, didn't bother to check my dates that  carefully. Should have said 1600 years (approximately) .

I think you get my meaning though!

I think this thread made me anyway realize that there's a difference between a self-serve buffet and a cafeteria style where staff serve your plate And I believe the former is gone forever.
