I got mine back under control but the travel insurance we use asks ..

"Have you ever been told your cholesterol has been raised   Ever in your life time"

I would hate anyone to fill in their insurance declarations falsely and end up with a non

payment should they put a claim in at a later date .

I agree.

Insurance expect you to tell them everything and if you are waiting for a diagnosis when renewing they won't renew until you get a diagnosis.

After my heart attack we rang insurance and they cancelled our annual policy immediately and I had to insure with a specialist medical insurance company.

A friend had a mini stroke and their insurance cancelled their policy immediately.

I understand at the time I was told doctor's were encouraged to get people on to statins.

If you can it pays to actually ask to  see what is on your medical history at the doctor's because if you claim insurance will do this.

We transferred a P&O cruise today from September 2024 Arcadia to USA and Canada 30 days to January 2025 as part of her World Cruise 23 days from San Francisco to Sydney, it was a bit more expensive meaning that we could transfer according to P&O terms and conditions.

We also booked to replace the P&O North America cruise with a Sky Princess one with a similar itinerary leaving mid rather than early September. The cross Pacific via Hawaii and South Sea Islands has been on our bucket list anyway, what swayed us into arranging it now was that the Princess USA/Canada cruise had advantages over the P&O one. Price is only £500 pp more expensive than when we booked with P&O but a mini suite not a balcony even with us adding drinks package inc wifi, 1 day longer cruise and goes 12 days later so autumn colours could be better (no guarantees).

Took about 40 mins on the phone to sort it all out.

We have annual travel insurance but I will have to call them tomorrow to ask them to record my raised Cholesterol level because I know that they have to know everything that you may have wrong with you.

At the end of the day regardless of cost it isn't worth taking any risks with insurance and when you look at the price of a cruise the increase in insurance is probably negligible.

I know that regardless of whether or not I manage to reduce it I will be forever considered a risk for insuranc and paying more.

Josy - if ever there was a reason for saying No, to ferrying children to school, or organising bowls, or whatever, you have it now.  Put yourself first!  You deserve it.  You’ve looked after everyone else - now look after yourself

Excellent advice . Make sure you look after No 1 or you will be not much use to others .

That does not mean you are not there for them in an emergency , just not at everyone's

beck and call ..  Be good to yourself guys 🙂

Yes that annoys me too, I’m sure there’s loads of people walking round with higher levels than me! I’m around 3. Years ago my mum’s was 8!! 😱

Hello all, I’ve just skimmed read the last few pages I’m afraid, I got sidetracked by Selbourne and Mrs Goggins reports 😁

I’ve been looking for news of Frank, so I know it’s worrying Avril, but hopefully they can sort him out now. My Dad was under the heart failure team for about 10 years they can do wonders now.

My mum has been in her nursing home for just over a week now and it’s still stressful! She phones me up telling me she’s lost things 🙄 Meanwhile my sister is in the Canaries…. ho hum!

hugs to all x

This must be the same cruise we are on? 31 nights. We looked at Aurora but it was very nearly double Sky price for a balcony. Looks a great itinerary, we did a similar cruise in 2019 but without the US ports and always said we would go back. There is a group for this on facecloth if you use it.

In hindsight 5 years ago I wish I had ignored friends advising against Statins because of their side effects as it might have prevented my heart attack a year later.

No I'm not on social media apart from this and a few other forums.

The time that we sail is Southampton Boat Show week so hotels may be in short supply or expensive for people wanting to stay the night before the cruise, or stay further out and drive in on day.

There is also a roll call on the Princess forum.

We are using the Intercruises bus for this one as I am finding the long drive down is getting a bit tedious.

One thing that may interest you is that we are scheduled to dock in Manhattan as opposed to the usual Brooklyn berth when we get to NY.

I had a cholesterol blood test at work in my mid 40s and is was 6 so I went on statins then some 16 years ago, no problem as far as I know. I'm only on 20mg. When I changed to Nationwide Flexplus account it didn't cost me any more as it's the only medication or condition that I have.

I'm pleased for you.

Heart attacks and strokes as well as being serious health conditions massively increase holiday insurance premiums for life and statins can help prevent them.

That's good about Manhattan, we've been to New York on QM2 twice before and docked in Brooklyn and got into Manhattan once by taxi and the other using the ferries. We tried to get a taxi back from Battery Park to the terminal and the driver hadn't heard of it and we had to direct him there (this was in 2009) 🤣

Same here I wish I had listened to my doctor rather than others and maybe who knows

could have prevented some of my conditions.

Mrs K was advised to go on statins and did not make my mistake and is ok with them .

We're on that cruise too (thanks to you mentioning it 👍) and tonight on Ventura we dined with another couple also on it. I've not looked at the excursions for a while (though have booked a few) but got the impression the ship would dock at the Brooklyn berth because of the HoHo bus details. How do you know it's Manhattan Phil?

Good Morning,

Cold at 0c and only expected to get up to 2c. I have some errands to do but need to wait in for a phone call, to update my travel insurance, so don't dare go out! Although with the current temps it's probably better to be indoors in the warm.

Hope you all have a good day.

Morning 1.c here .Managed to wake myself up with a freezing arm ,I must have

stuck it out from under the duvet and when I pulled it back in and it came into

contact with the rest of me ..Guess you could call that a rude awakening 🤣

Have good day everyone 🙂

0 degrees here too but the wind-chill factor makes it feel a lot colder. I've been for one walk with Ted so far and he couldn't wait to get home and back to the warmth of his bed.

Re statins: I've been on a low dose statin for about 18 months now - no side-effects at all. My cholesterol was at 7 and the statin has brought it down to just under 5. As you all know, high cholesterol can be a familial inheritance. I have a friend who is super-fit, super-skinny due to a lifetime of strict adherance to healthy eating, doesn't drink, never smoked and had a regular cholesterol of 8 until she went onto a statin. Just bad luck - blame the parents!

Have a great day everyone and best wishes to all - especiially to Avril and Frank. Jane xxx
