Awful to hear Lyle, but also points out the need for more and better mental health treatment and facilities.

It's been a bit of a wild west show, the way we are dealing with mental health and addiction isn't working. Rather than helping addicts to kick the drugs we are enabling them to keep using. The government buys hotels to help house the homeless and it's not long before they are set on fire. New supportive housing is acquired or purpose built for the junkies but those with true mental health issues just fall through the cracks. As I understand it the Constable was part of a new group of officers who specialize in dealing with mental health issues, now she's dead.

Leigh, how is that right knee?

It is improving quite well thanks Linda. I have just returned from a physio appointment and the physio is quite pleased how the injury is going. She says it is an eight week injury and I'm half way there. The exercises I have to do three times a day are certainly making the knee stronger and today was the first time I have been out without crutches.

Lyle. I am so sorry to hear the news about the RCMP constable. It is dangerous work, unfortunately. Are the officers armed?

RCMP usually are, from what I saw when I was in Canada on two occasions.

Yes RCMP regular constables carry a Stainless Steel 40 caliber Smith & Wesson Automatic. The Auxiliary constables don't. At one time the auxiliaries were armed as well. I have several friends who were RCMP who are now retired. The constable did shoot the perpetrator and the whole thing was apparently caught on a surveillance camera on an adjacent building. Keep in mind the incident happened in broad daylight at about 10:00 AM.

What a dreadful tragedy.  Sadly, much of your description could apply to local government culture here in Canberra.

Lyle with all due respect, some advice from Uncle Les, whilst it is a tragedy, please do  not let it stress you out, wont do you any good. In my 36 years in 👮‍♂️ I lost several mates at various incidents.

Bless you my son and the RCMP.

😢

Something different all right, today I was diagnosed with severe renal failure after blood tests and ultrasounds the past few days. My kidney function has taken a big nose dive. Do not know where I go from here, specialist? Dialaysis?

Suffice to say I am not well and could be a shot duck.

Not dwelling on it, bye for now.

Linda, sadly I think it applies in all areas of Australia. Regional areas are as poorly funded as the big cities if not worse. With a son in law in the Vic police, I am concerned everytime there is an incident.

Oh Les, I know I speak for all your friends on here:  none of us want to hear this.  What is your medical advice?  If you need to come to Canberra for specialist treatment, our home is yours.

I know in my heart you're right, Leigh.  My beloved nephew and his wife are both police officers in Brisbane, usually in the thick of it.  My prayers and thoughts for the safety of your son in law.

Take care & get yourself the best help. As others have said you've had a bit of a rough trot in recent years, but please keep your sense of humour & get well soon Cheers Neil & Tracey

Les, so sorry to hear that. I hope you get the best treatment and are not in too much discomfort. Best wishes from both of us.
