I have to be okay and be on a cruise with you and RJ again. He took my picture on the last cruise we were on and never gave it to me.😀

Think positive thoughts and it will happen.

I think that picture exchange is not happening. That was a long time ago. Many things were lost, upgraded and updated in the interim.

Cruise ships are leaving the port daily, parks are open...we are fine.

Please give support to your claim that "cruise ships are leaving the port daily."  Are you referring to Royal, Carnival, Holland America, Princess, Cunard or Norwegian?  Folks on any of those boards will be happy to hear your evidence!

One of  the first things I learned in college about the Constitution and Bill of Rights was that no one has the right to yell "fire" in a crowded movie theatre, even though we have the "right" to free speech.  I'm not going to get into a long discussion with you, but all Americans have the basic "right" to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  I want to do everything I can to preserve the lives of others!

People be careful what you wish for. We should not want the constitution suspended. Right to assemble, right to worship, right to protest must be defended. The pandemic should not be used as an excuse. Political parties even those we don’t agree with have rights.

Well, ask the Governor of NJ when asked about the Bill of Rights.  He didn't even take that into consideration when he was "Dictating."  😉 🍷

What bubble are you in, rolloman? We've seen record increases since our wonderful governor, who I mistakenly voted for decided to on everything up.

I live 20 min south of Port Canaveral and I, too, would like to hear what cruise ships are leaving daily?   I believe the gambling boat is open again and doing it’s daily 3 hour cruises and some of the tour boats may be “cruising “ each day but that is all I know of.😂

Positive case numbers have been going up in Florida for over a week, records were set this past weekend for high number of cases.  But as the governor said in his press latest press conference, “Increased case numbers do not mean an increase in case numbers” 😳🙄

Then you should know the Victory 1 does more than 3 hours at sea....and since one can now run to CVS and get a test done...it would make sense positive tests "may" be higher.....Indian Harbor eh? Just a little over 500 cases here in Brevard since the start of this debacle.....but, like your pal Yogi...by all means continue to promote the fear mongering.....

Oh and to help you out with the math....if one person goes and gets a test done and tests positive...then gets 2 more verification  tests done and they also are positive...that equates to one case....with 3 positive tests....simple enough?

Holding a protest or a political rally is not yelling fire. We should defend the constitution and bill of rights. People did die for them. You don’t have Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness by just making a declaration.

o.k., you weren't able to prove your first point, so we'll give you a second chance.

Please cite facts which show "August 1...the major lines will be leaving Florida ports."

Folks here will be thrilled and you be hailed as a hero.

By the way, you might want to read the Constitution.  You will not find "freedom of speech" there.

Thanks for re-focusing.  No, cruise lines should use their ships for cruising.  Not as motels.  My follow up question is why would Jacksonville need to do this anyway and involve a cruise ship?  Northeast FL is a large area with a lot of tourist facilities and hotels within the Jacksonville radius even including southern GA .  It is not anywhere near peak usage in August.  It can handle a super bowl in February.  Why can't it handle a political convention with maybe half the people or less??  I am not understanding the overall concern.

Miami used several cruise ships as hotels for the Super Bowl. I believe most were charters that never left the dock or cruised after. This was a major sporting event with lots of money. Not sure a political convention has that kind of money for lodging.

Indeed, it is the equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded theatre when it likely will lead to disease and the death of multiple individuals, including family members and friends who will die because of someone's desire to yell out some nonsensical political catch phrase.

Wrong. Freedom of speech is in the First Amendment.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

"We'll" give you a second chance....who is we'll? …"Freedom of speech not in the constitution" lmao....ok buddy..... FYI...Carnival leaves out of 2 ports in Florida August 1....look it up.....Victory Casino Cruise leaving now....look it up.... Orlando princess charters leaving now...look it up....just a sample from one Florida port...

rollo, you speciaifcally stated, "the major lines will be leaving Florida ports."

Carnival is just one.

I would point out that the Orlando Princess (Fishing Boat) and Victory are not exactly, "major lines."

You are right, I was wrong. Victory typically does 5 and 6 hour “cruises,” one on the afternoon and one in the evening. 😂😂

Not all CVS pharmacies are doing tests and those that are, are requesting you make an appointment on line, not just a simple “run to”. .  They also are asking for a doctor’s referral.

We have been fortunate in Brevard  to have only had 545 cases as of Sunday and only 15 deaths.  Compared to other counties in Florida, we have not been as bad but we are beginning to increase a little more quickly each day.

You need to give your explanation for increased numbers to the governor, he said it was due to the state testing more in prisons, migrant workers, and nursing homes.😂

Here in Ormond Beach, we have more deaths in one long term car facility. Coquina Center has had 24 and the bulk of deaths in Volusia County. Last word they also had 15 staff test positive.

When speaking with regards to Florida.... what you are promoting is Fake news...maybe the virus is spreading in your area due to riots and protests but here in Florida we are doing quite well and our State is open for business. Cruise ships are leaving the port daily, parks are open...we are fine. Your  last posts claims you fancy yourself as a protector of the people... Fear-mongering is not protecting people.

That is why Florida is reporting a record surge of cases. And it can't all be explained away by additional testing because deaths are up too in the past few weeks.

Even Florida news sources are predicting a second surge.

https://www.wfla.com/news/by-the-numbers/covid-19-projections-expect-second-wave-to-begin-mid-september/

To respond to the original question, I agree that no cruise ship should ever be repurposed as a motel unless it is for providing shelter during a national disaster like a hurricane.

Can you give us any concrete evidence that the major cruise lines are absolutely going to cruise from Florida ports starting August 1?

The only thing I have seen is that this is the projected start date. There are still many factors that need to be considered, not the least being whether the CDC will extend the No Sail order on ships that do overnights and carry more than 500 passengers.  If the CDC extends the no sail order for US waters (including territories like Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands) there will be no cruise ships docking for passengers in the US until that order is released or cruise ships can submit a plan in accordance with the CDC rules.

And IF cruise lines were to start sailing starting August 1, there is no way paying customers who have made final payment on their late August cruises should be displaced by a political convention who need motel rooms. Maybe they should have looked into accommodations before scheduling the convention.  More cruise cancellations that are not due to Covid-19 won't exactly endear the public to the cruise lines who are already struggling to keep their customers..

OK.  It is all figured out from the testing front.

A certain politician just said this less than an hour ago:

"If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, if any."

So now we can resume our lives as normal.  Happy here.

If you did some basic research you would know Carnival intends to sail only 8 of its ships starting in August. Therefore your concern of paying customers being displaced by a convention is not warranted.
