This is the problem, even with insurance many of our deductibles are high.   Certain percent of ppl in America think health care is not deserved.

If it makes you feel any better...during "the height here" people were told NOT to visit the doctor, ER etc unless they were in really bad condition or had underlying issues.  My husband is in excellent health..but 85.  The doctor told him to just stay home and rest...as long as he wasn't having trouble breathing.  It was only when the temp went up to 104 that he went to the hospital (where it turned out he had pneumonia and needed oxygen).

There was a big sign in the ER...that they didn't test for mild symptoms.  After he was admitted, the doctor told me to just go home and monitor myself.

it says could be  not that it is. there is no empirical evidence, yet.

The article also states that there is "growing evidence", it also states "the British Medical Journal ‘Gut’ has published evidence from China revealing that if a patient has gastrointestinal issues, like diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, over a quarter may not have the respiratory symptoms associated with the disease. Researchers also believe those who have gastrointestinal symptoms could have a more severe form of the disease".  So it sounds more likely than less likely so I would not state that it has "never been a symptom".

The WHO also states it as a known symptom.

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/question-and-answers-hub/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses#:~:text=symptoms

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, dry cough, and tiredness. Other symptoms that are less common and may affect some patients include aches and pains, nasal congestion, headache, conjunctivitis, sore throat, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell or a rash on skin or discoloration of fingers or toes. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but only have very mild symptoms.

Nope, wrongo.  If you're at risk, you need to take precautions.  Those of us who are healthy, sorry, we're done cancelling life.

As for universal healthcare, Canada and California have roughly the same population yet Canada has approaching twice the fatality rate.

Unless you're Superman and impervious to disease....you are at risk.  Maybe not as much as some other people but you can get "it" too.

Here, read about Nick Cordero.  Most likely he was in better physical condition than you are (based on his occupation).

Did you go to medical school?

Diarrhea is a symptom.  It's not as prevalent as coughing, but it's on the list.

However, I didn't have diarrhea.  I had, I guess I'll call it, an overactive gastro-intestinal system. (To put it bluntly...I didn't know I could hold so much!!!  Every day....for a couple of weeks!!!)

Since this is an unknown disease....new symptoms are being discovered all the time.

I can't stand these doom and gloom posts. Florida, where I live, is NOT surging. They have increased testing. The hospitals are flippin' empty!

Not what has been reported. Resource please.

$450/month coverage for husband/wife. The prescription plan is "discounted prices" until the deductible is met than 30% copay. Not what we're used to from 4 years ago, 35/50 copays  for primary/specialist and 15/25/50 prescriptions (depending on tier).

Thank you. OMG we are very lucky over 60 and under 16 free prescriptions and free dentistry for all

Same as every disease including cancer - its called mutation.

but diarrhea is not a reliable  indicator as is the cough and fever.

Me me me

Exactly, you think every must conform to your expectation.

There's benefits to being healthy and no one should be shamed for using them.  I bet you think the ropes course should be ripped of Escape because people with Vertigo have a higher change of injury.

Thank you.  They Said 2-4 days.

Sincerely, good luck and I hope your mind is put at rest.  And, if you have any kind of insurance, I hope the COVID testing is covered once they run it.  I know Medicare and most of the major insurers do, but, sadly, it's still kind of a crap shoot about having decent coverage in the US.

You mean the gross mismanagement in places like New York City & State.

There are a lot of exacerbating factors in the US that South Korea did not have to deal with.

There was no gross mismanagement in NY.  John F Kennedy airport is a very large international airport.

Trump shut down air travel from China but didnt shutdown travel from Italy.  The coronavirus in NY came from people traveling from Italy.  They then spread it around before they knew they were infected.   NYC is also the densest city in the United States which contributed to its initial spread and has nothing to do with government or politics.

1. The island nations are opening.

2. No, but like I said, the number of cases attributed to cruise ships will be practically irrelevant.

3. The islands are opening with this knowledge, it's their call.  The ship will return to it's US port and disembark normally because any number of cases will be insignificant within the general population.

Resource please.

My initial symptom was fatigue and body aches for a few days  Then added runny nose and sneezing (no fever, no bad cough, no sore throat.)  Then added the gastro symptoms you are having.  Within a few days sudden shortness of breath.  Then got the test = positive.

So glad you've made a full recovery.  Have you been able to determine how you contracted the virus?

This is an interesting point, but, the ships will sail when the cruiselines feel that they will make a profit, not when "we demand".  In addition, the crew members are not indentured servants.  If the ships sail, they have the option of working or not working.

I would suggest that a lot of them don't have the option of 'working or not working'.  And that's the issue I have.  However I do realize that the bottom line is what is important to the industry (and not just the cruise one).  I just  don't want my personal need to be what puts someone else in harms way.

interesting to call NY mismanagement when they are the ONLY ones to follow the GOVERNMENT and CDC guidelines and the ONLY one to show significant downward progress... not like Florida

Ill take that mismanagement to save lives.. Ill take that every single day.

I agree.  I am in healthcare and quite surprised at the chosen ignorance of quite a lot of people in the USA.

I was a very sad thing to watch as NYC went through their crisis with the COVID 19 virus tragedy.   I believe many states learned from that; it was having to do with having an infrastructure in place to accommodate the population in NYC.  It did not appear there was enough.  Lots of misinformation (I blame the media) and blame. Every state has what they have. They also got hit early on in the Pandemic when it hit the USA; really NO ONE knew about anything and how it was to be handled, including any form of government.

I am not sure why people think they know, when the experts did not, how to handle a Pandemic of this virus, when it is unprecedented.

State governments choosing not to take this crisis seriously is concerning, some are some aren't.  IMO the state governments are where the rubber hit the road as far as things in place to take care of their residents.

I saw many states, including my own, ramp up their healthcare plans and access if it was needed.  Is that true everywhere, I do not know this?

IMHO, I cannot believe they would allow cruising with any remote chance of having COVID19 on board, no matter how many waivers are signed.  Why would they? That would be a business suicide/nightmare if things went wrong; which there would be a pretty high percentage of that happening.  Once they had a problem, no port would let them back without major processes and clearing of the COVID19  in place.  I hope they are looking at the long term picture and can figure out how to make that work; IDK.

I won't travel until a vaccine is in place; I do know, because I do clinical research, that the vaccine researchers are not taking this lightly and are not doing sloppy research.  The FDA does not allow this to happens regardless of what some uninformed people say.  The FDA is one of the most difficult agencies to get anything through approval globally.  I know, I have been part of companies submitting drugs and medical devices through the FDA.

An example I can give in regards to the COVID 19  - when the testing capability first came out, the Media was quite insistent (saw the WH press core broadcast) on allowing testing from companies out side the USA; meaning not FDA approved.  It was told to the media that those were only 47% positive, yet they insisted on having those become available.  Not really sure what the reason was other than ignorance by the media. Definitely mob and ignorance mentality which sadly formed public opinion regarding what was going on. It appears now that it is indeed a problem. Don't blame the CDC and the FDA for having strict criteria to keep the citizens of the USA safe.

Stay safe please.

I don't think I'll ever know for sure, but my doctor and I are pretty convinced that I got it from a friend I was travelling with.  I live in NJ - she lives in Westchester County, NY.   We met on a cruise & a couple of times a year we meet up to cruise together (we both get comps from the casino) but we don't see each other between cruises.  Anyway, a week or so before the cruise she was diagnosed and treated for what her doctor diagnosed as "strep throat."  She didn't have any other symptoms but the sore throat, she was prescribed antibiotics and she felt better by embarkation day.  We met up at the pier and both passed the temperature screening with no issues.  We ate most meals together in my suite (by Day 3 of the cruise I had started feeling tired so I stayed "home" (lol) alot.)  By Day 6 of the cruise I had a runny nose and a sinus headache and a "productive" cough (nothing major.)   I received an email from NCL the day after I returned home advising there had been a Covid case on the Bliss on the prior sailing.  I wound up getting tested and I was positive and proceeded to get sicker and sicker (shortness of breath was the worst.)  I ultimately tested positive 3 times over six weeks (once I was feeling better I wanted to donate antibodies, but my test kept coming back positive for live virus.)  After 8 weeks I tested negative FINALLY.

My friend has since had an antibody test which shows she DID have Covid at some point - either an asymptomatic case or what presented as the "strep throat" in late Feb/early March.  If the latter, that's where I probably contracted it.

Luckily I stayed in my suite alot so hopefully I didn't make too many other people sick - but I do think about my butler and room steward.  I hope they are ok.

Clearly you are not aware of @seaman11's presence across many boards on CC.  I can think of a lot of words to describe him...optimistic, fanatical, enthusiastic, Troll isn't one of them...

This guy was keeping me going with his enthusiasm for August cruising. Hell, he made me wonder if I should book in August instead of November. Get better soon so we can get back out on the ocean buddy!

LOL.

Ship is not coming back into Florida with any infected even if its one person. Because there is more than one. 14 days later anchored off shore when the cases are now 20+ will start the Princess saga all over again

The reason your not sailing is......what happens if someone becomes infected onboard?

Until there is a vaccine I should change the title of my thread here to , "Your not sailing till mid 2021"

CCL just backed off August now

I would be willing to release NCLH of all liability prior to embarkation in regards to the virus. I'm sure I can't be the only one
