At worst, a couple of ports could be replaced by technical stops where passengers cant disembark. Thanks for the comment. That sounds enticing and something we may consider booking for early next year or the spring, even though not booked on similar at present. We would want sometime ashore rather than mainly ship based though. What sort of options would you expect passengers to have ashore and at how many ports? Eu healthy Gateways Guidance mentions keeping people in Cohorts ashore, so restricting people to formal trips only (ship or country based) or some other restriction on movements when ashore sounds likely. Nothing being mentioned about that - but perhaps being avoided as could be considered bad news. Edited July 11, 2020 by tring
Britboys Posted July 11, 2020 #877 Share Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) Well, I was very, very doubtful that my World Cruise Sector next year would happen but having heard that QE is on her way back from Australia and seen the discussions above, I am even more doubtful now. Assuming that happens, the only real possibility for me cruising with P&O next year (assuming we get back to some sort of normality) is a Med cruise on Arcadia in October. Since we go on cruise holidays for the sunshine and higher temperatures, then a round Britain cruise would not be very attractive, especially if it had any tender ports on its itinerary.

I think it depends upon how the vaccine trials continue. Otherwise, I don't see P&O of taking the risk of taking passengers to 30 different locations around the globe.
kalos Posted July 11, 2020 #881 Share Posted July 11, 2020 Another idea would be for some ships not to cruise but come to a port near you . You would then board and enjoy the ship as you would if it were cruising for lets say 2/3 nights. These events would be stay onboard ,not come and go, so they would have to up their entertainment. Park the ship up at places where they could stay docked before moving on to the next venue giving staff time to deep clean the ship. Oceana could have done this whilst docked at Newcastle and I'm sure their are plenty other places around the UK this could happen . P&O Ferries do this with their ships at Hull over the New year holiday so it is doable . Not for everyone but it could be an option for a few ships ,until things get back to something like normal. Less fuel needed for the ships and no travel insurance needed for us lot. Docking fees could be a problem but if not why not ? Could be a temporary money spinner for ships laid idle. The ships owners would have to get used to paying tax if they went ahead though .

Although my sector isn't until the end of January, the Itinerary starts in early January. I wonder how far ahead P&O would need to take a decision to cancel? DS_Dean Posted July 11, 2020 #884 Share Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) Living in Southampton, I'd happily board a ship for 2 or 3 nights for some top quality food, entertainment, casino etc. But it would have to be advertised entertainment so it was clear what it would be as of late on p&o it has often been the same acts doing same old routines.. especially on comedian/magician front and cover artists. They could do it from various UK ports. I think there could be some interest in this particularly if cruising is postponed further after October. Captain_Morgan Posted July 11, 2020 #886 Share Posted July 11, 2020 Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe the casino and every other retail outlet cannot be opened while in port so they would have to go sail a distance before they could open anything not food or lounge related

drsel Posted July 11, 2020 #888 Share Posted July 11, 2020 Its already been announced that Pacific Aria and Pacific Dawn are likely to leave earlier than planned as both Golden Princess and Star Princess are moving across to become Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter earlier than planned. I don't think they are now planned to re-enter service with Princess. do you know anything about Sea Princess? I have a cruise booked on her next year.I already lost my booking on Oceana.I have not received any email from the agent nor from PO, confirming the cancellation of my Cruise. it is still showing as confirmed on the p&o website

Apparently with social distancing 3 people per card table is the limit and 3 or 4 for roulette, another down for the new normal. I like playing blackjack and only play on a cruise 😟

I'm unlikely to sail on Britannia and will never sail on Iona but I would be willing to pay £100 for afternoon tea, dinner, bed & breakfast aboard them purely to see what they are both like...

We could pop round to Weymouth and watch the punch and Judy through binoculars. Along a bit further and moor up off South Devon. Not landing would please the locals, but they could come out to the ship in dinghy's and do those gurning faces to amuse the Grockles. We could go across to Guernsey as we seldom get in anyway. That sounds a good week.😁
