yellowhat Posted July 20, 2020 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2020 In these days time is hard to follow...weeks turn into months, etc. So..imagine if Celebrity took over an exclusive holiday address with their X standards, food, drink packages,24 hour customer desk, spa, etc. Hundreds of X dedicated customers have thousands of $ in FCC that they may never use (due to age, health, cruise future, etc)...imagine X Customers arriving at the airport.(.after getting pre=Tested.at their departure )then proceeding to the exclusive resort for 10..14 days..Yes it could be years before any board a X Boat..so in the meantime wouldn't it be fun to eat, MSBC, drink, feel secure in all sense of security..that's my time of holiday..that's why I have sailed in X the past 14 years..secure,,calm and cool
1025cruise Posted July 20, 2020 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2020 Would probably never happen. A hotel would require local staff, not the international crew that Celebrity hires. Would be a completely different experience.
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted July 20, 2020 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2020 If I want to stay in a hotel, I have lots of choices. I want to be at sea! 2
Rare mom says Posted July 20, 2020 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2020 So you've basically described a 4-5* AI resort. They already exist, and many in the Caribbean are now opening up to pax arriving by air (many requiring COVID tests). However, no matter where it's located, it all depends on whether you could even get there, depending on your passport.
Blackduck59 Posted July 20, 2020 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2020 There are already lots of such places, they're called "All inclusive resorts". Not the same as a cruise, not even close.
Fouremco Posted July 20, 2020 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2020 If I want to stay at a resort, I'll pick one with a proven track record and good reputation. Celebrity knows about as much about running a successful AI as Sandals' management knows about running a cruise line.
Rare hcat Posted July 20, 2020 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2020 Maybe they could dock a ship at Labadee. Maybe Reflection...good ship, nice beach, places to play and nice water excursions. Think outside the box!
GateGuardian Posted July 20, 2020 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2020 At this point, it may be a better idea to just build up a travel website and let people use their FCC for other vacations (hotels, flights) and just take a commission to generate revenue. bEwAbG Posted July 20, 2020 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2020 Their hotel operations on ships are good for cruise ship standards. I don't think they can compete with a real hotelier when it comes to consistency.
TeeRick Posted July 21, 2020 #11 Share Posted July 21, 2020 (edited) There are a lot of land-based resorts that frequently operate above Celebrity's usual standards already. Edited July 21, 2020 by TeeRick
cl.klink Posted July 23, 2020 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2020 OK, then what about an X ship, just staying in port. The SHIP is the hotel. It stays put, never leaves, and we just spend ## days on it. - Joel
Fouremco Posted July 23, 2020 #13 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Thanks, but I'd rather stay at a hotel or resort than on a ship permanently docked in port.

Of course you could fly into Port Au Prince and take a transport for the 5 or 6 hour trip to Labadee. Maybe we better get a bigger box, cause I ain't flying into Haiti. I don't think Haiti is excluding Americans at this point but that might become a factor in the future if arriving by ship or air. https://www.voanews.com/covid-19-pandemic/haiti-reopens-international-airports-borders-amid-pandemic Edited July 24, 2020 by TeeRick
kwokpot Posted July 28, 2020 #19 Share Posted July 28, 2020 Carnival had owned a resort Hotel in the Bahamas in Cable Beach until it was sold off- I think Marriott now owns it.
