Good News Queensland has zero cases of Corona Virus

Recommended Posts

I recall staying at an apartment hotel in Exhibition St in Melbourne quite a few years ago. We headed out early one morning, just see in time to see the bleary-eyed half-drunk patrons leaving a nearby nightclub. It wasn't a pretty sight.

Well I have a great deal of respect for those in Metropolitan Melbourne. I for sure don'tĀ envy your lockdown. We never had anything like that here. Restaurants were closed for a couple of monthes but are open again with spacing. We have a few places we go for sit down meals and the standard take out joints. We haven't been to a "Pub" for a long time.

Although I understand being safe, I'm not sure puttingĀ people who have done nothing wrong on house arrest is appropriate or fair. Set the standard and expect the establishments to conform and enforce the rules. I understand that enforcement is difficult but locking everyone up because some people can't follow instructions is just lazy on the part of the authorities. Our Provincial Health Officer just closed all night clubs and Banquet Halls. There have also been other changes to the hours of operation for restaurants and pubs.

Be safe everyone, I hope that the powers that be will begin to treat you like responsible adults and you are granted parole soon.

Lyle, we Melbournians are not under house arrest. We can can exercise outside our properties for 2 hoursĀ per day, families can take take their children to the park, we can shop for essential items. Single people can visit a nominated friend, we can buy takeaway meals. The reason this was implemented was to reduce the movement of people to limit the spread of the virus.Ā

Ā

I don't really mind the curfew as there is nowhere to go! Nothing is open! I would say that by far the vastĀ majority of people are following the restrictions and curfew. As Julie said above, the curfew shows who is out breaking the rules. Our lockdown is nothing compared to say what has been happening in Chile and other parts of the world. The reason that some lockdowns have not worked, is that they have opened up too quickly and a second wave has hit them.Ā

Hopefully Victoria and the remainder of Australia learns from our second wave.

Imagine all those empty Italian Restaurants in Lygon Street, I was amazed when we were there a few years ago, such choice and quality, spruikers out the front 'Cumma Ina toa mya Restaurante, freeaĀ winea. (Sorry about my Italian.)Ā

Ā

When I was in Merimbula area a week or two ago, normally full of Vics, place was empty, many eateries closed and the big clubs like the Sapphire Club and RSL, were not opening until 12 noon and closing at 8pm, little trade, the pokies were not running red hot and plenty of space in the club cafes, bistros and restaurants.

Ā

Soldier on as they say, get the numbers down and VicĀ may reopen in a couple of months, correct?Ā

Areas such as Lygon St are struggling Les, but those who have adjusted to providingĀ take away meals will be doing it a bit easier than those who aren't.

Ā

Yes, hopefully we will reopen completely by the end of November.

One aspect I had trouble making much sense of was the curfew. Turns outĀ to have no public health justification.Ā
Ā

Ā

I think the rationale was twofold:

1) the things you need to do can be done during daylight so it's reducing chance of unnecessary exposure time without impact (theoretically if everyone followed the rules then it would make no difference, but as they don't, if people do what they need to, it reduces the temptation time, and hence exposure)

2) social activities are more likely to happen at night, so it's a higher return in reducing risk of any time of day

Actually our last meal out.... was on our last cruise dec 2019......... ( it is sad )

Ā

We have had takeaway Fish andĀ chips........Ā  Ā lol

Ā

Time to cook dinnerĀ  Ā  Ā  cheers Don

We have eaten out once, it was to meet our friends we hadn't seen for ages. I wanted to just meet at ours or theirs but they wanted a steak form the club. What a waste of time, no socialising, table booked and time limited to 45 minutes, so as soon as you finish eating, it is get up and out, so they can clean the table and the next lot can order and eat..

My wife used to lunch / coffee several times a week with friends , now itĀ needs to be aĀ booked table (week in advance at some places), 1/2 hour for coffee and 3/4 for lunch, and still no time to socialise properly.

I agree with your comment. I would rather meet friends or family at home where there is no limit on time.

The Catalina Golf Club Bistro was almost empty today when I had lunch with my daughter. 300 seat bistro, about 20 people in the joint. I don't like the new caterer, fish,Ā chips and salad were pretty ordinary, but then for $15 you cannot complain too much, no curryĀ on, sad I should have had some of this to put on it..Ā 86501214_2500368760180897_540861460603994112_o.jpg.f7ae41f8c23e51f8e8fd1f5f519ca9ae.jpg

For special occasions where we don't want to go out for a meal we go to the fish markets and buy a selection of seafood. Mostly stuff we can have raw or cold, but sometimes something that can be quickly grilled. Add salad, crusty bread and a bottle of champagne and we have a feast fit for the gods. Much cheaper than dining out.

Raining down on the coast, well drizzle. Might as well go down to the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club for a ChineseĀ lunch @ $10.Ā  The Corona Virus that was there in July should be cleaned up by now. If I have a decent lunch, I just have cheese, rice crackers and a glass or two of vino for dinner, keep life simple.

Back to the topic sort of, CEO of FC predicts the Qld Premier will open the border in a few weeks, maybe he has the inside knowledge.

I don't think there is any chance at all that the Qld Premier will open the border in a few weeks. The State election is on 31st October and so far, the closed border isn't having much negative effect on Queensland. The cluster of COVID infections that has been running for a few weeks started with two young women who flew to Sydney, then Melbourne (partied there), then returned. It was alleged they are part of a group that steals high-end goods in Melbourne and they were bringing those goods back with them for sale.

Ā

Talking to people in Queensland, I haven't heard anyone who opposes Anastasia's restrictions. The impression is that for the Labor party, the restrictions are a vote-winner so I don't think there is any chance they will open the borders before the election. My guess is that the border might open in time for Christmas if the COVID situation does not deteriorate.

No negative effect? What about the millions lost in tourism, eg millions lost by accommodation providers, hospitality etc.Ā  Queenslanders cannot make that sort of money up.Ā  Perhaps Queenslanders should start going out for lunch and dinner every day and spending on tourism in their own State, because no one else can get into the joint.Ā

Please be precise when you quote someone šŸ™‚. I didn't say "No negative effect" I said "much negative effect".

Ā

Of course COVID has and is having a massive negative effect on everyone. At the moment, I feel the closed border may be helping Queenslanders more than if it was open and we had the virus spreading.

Ā

We do have a lot of interstate people in Queensland - people who came before the border closed and who are staying here for the duration. One of my cousins went for a trip in their caravan but had to return to Brisbane because the caravan parks are full of people planning to stay there for many months. Other people have come to Qld after the border was closed and have been prepared to spend 14 days in quarantine. Some of these people have relocated permanently to Queensland.

Excellent idea to treat yourself!

I promised myself something to look forward to each month Usually my passions of travel and live theatre. Ā With the pandemic neither have been possible since March. Ā We just had a holiday on the Sunshine Coast - food for the soul. Ā We enjoyed it so much we booked a return visit. Ā

Ā

Queensland is open to people from WA, SA, Tas, NT, northern NSW and soon the ACT. That's not nobody else, unless only NSW and Vic count as real people.

Ā

If other states want in then they'd do better to manage their own Covid than complain about other's restrictions.

I believe NSW is doing a very good job, with their containment of the virus.

Ā

"NSW has recorded six new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and the only case of local transmission was already in isolation. Five of the new cases are returned travellers in hotel quarantine."
