CDC requested to reinstate NSO

Since five of the seven were from one group, I doubt masks would have helped them.  The other two it might have prevented.

I agree that it would not have helped those traveling together. My point is I want to know how many positives there need to be, do they need to be unrelated cases, etc. before a lockdown occurs. It will take a lot more information than just a ship sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale to get me aboard.

The answer is one.

Until that answer changes cruising goes nowhere as there is a very high chance of a lockdown on almost every cruise. Are enough people willing to put up with that to get enough folks onto the ships to make it worth to the cruise lines to sail? I have no idea.

Agreed, as more try and ultimately fail, those willing will start to dwindle.

Not to joke about people dying, but hundreds were dying prior to Covid.

1.4 million died worldwide with TB in 2019, and people aren’t freaking out about it either.

Notice how the media doesn’t include much context with the recent spike in CV cases, just the # of cases.  The people we know who’ve had it recovered in a week (or less), and stayed home for another week as a precaution.

I think some would like the CV to drag out for at least another year.

Possibly only a very small percentage of the population which falls into these categories:

  1. Healthy frequent cruisers
  2. Healthy retirees
  3. Healthy frequent cruisers between jobs who have money to spare
  4. Healthy people with flexible jobs and money to spare

That's all I can think of for now.  Not a big population group.

Apparently, Mrs Smith was found “passed out” in a hallway on the other side of the ship from her cabin.

Rumor was that she slept with the Casino Manager.

We sailed on the Brilliance 12 niter the following year and the crew was tight lipped about the case.  Also, the cabin was was not in service, I guess from the publicity and ignominity.

And I think most people in those groups also will have little interest in being involved with probable ship lockdowns.

We are in category 2 and will pass.  Let someone else be the guinea pig 🐖.

I don't think anyone is interested in an extended quarantine.  Those with a lot of time and money to spare are the ones most likely to tolerate it though.  There are not too many people in that category and if the cruise lines decide to limit people over a certain age, the passenger pool gets even smaller.

I think there is a 5th group - people who believe this is all overblown.  They would hop on a ship right now with no protocols.  I have family who thinks this way.

Then there are those who will cruise and at every chance find some reason to not follow the protocols - the "I will just have a drink in my hand at all times so I don't have to wear a mask" people fall into this category.

Geez.  Politicizing the pandemic.   I thought we all agreed to follow the science. I don’t know maybe these senators are scientists moonlighting as epidemiologist ???

The pandemic has been politicized from the outset, from the highest level. And the science clearly says "don't cruise."

Two quotes you might find interesting.  There is no predicted spike in 2020.  It takes the government a few years to compile data.  I will check the insurance companies at my convenience.  Nope, we are not dying off as a species.  With everyone staying home I imagine we will have record births???😁

Yes, there's that group as well, but are there enough of them to keep the large cruise lines operating at a profit going forward?

As a retired FSA, I never thought I would see the SOA mentioned on this site.

I'm not sure about group 5.  If the price was right I think there are a lot of younger people who would, but would that be beneficial to the cruise line?  Probably not, but again using some of my family members as an example, I know they'd  jump at a cruise right now .

Not everything can be cured, or prevented, such as TB, and people are resigned to the fact and life goes on. CV is no where near that stage and hopefully the new vaccines will help get us there. Once the science takes us as far as it can, peoples lives and well being must be protected anyway we can. If that means a prolonged shutdown of cruising, or other entities, so be it.

The liberals here in dallas want to lock down further and have dire predictions. They wrote to the governor to lock down now., currently if we have 15% I think of beds? for 7 days straight we add lock down measures. We are at 12% of whatever it is they are measuring.

They arent even close to cruising imo. All I hear is lock it down NOW.

Only El Paso is in lock down I think in texas. I dont know if it's possible to hit herd immunity if people are back and forth across the border every day. Glad it's a 12 hour drive from here to El Paso. I heard New Mexico added lock down measures next door to texas.

Without knowing how or when the virus was transmitted to those infected, you cannot possibly tell whether masking would have made a difference. But it probably would not have hurt.
