Confidence that Nov 2021 Crown Princess Panama Canal will sail?

I just read that the Crown Princess cruises are cancelled through October 2021.  This leads me to worry that our Nov 16 Panama Canal trip is in jeopardy.  Anyone have insights into why they've cancelled so far ahead? Is it the unsettled Florida vaccine requirements? Ship remodeling?  CDC issues?

I'm seriously considering going ahead and rescheduling to next spring, and not waiting til the last minute to hear if we're cancelled or not.

your thoughts?

They were cancelled a while back because, at least at the time, the CDC conditional order to sail stated until the order expires (Oct 31st)  no cruises that entered a US port could be longer than 7 days.

We are also on the Nov 6th sailing.  A few weeks ago, we were scheduled on the Nov 6th  Caribbean Princess NY to FLL cruise.  I had just commented that I was 75% confident that it would be sailing when the next day we got the cancellation message.

So when I say I am 80% confident that the Crown Nov 6th sailing will go as planned, maybe don't take that to the bank just yet.

The Crown Princess is a go in November for fully vaccinated passengers per a release just issued by Carnival Corporation.

https://www.carnivalcorp.com/news-releases/news-release-details/princess-cruises-continues-plans-resume-cruising-united-states

Starting between September 25 and November 28, 2021, cruises onboard eight Princess MedallionClass™ ships will once again take guests to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico, Hawaii, and the California Coast.

  • Majestic Princess and Grand Princess: Los Angeles once again provides the springboard to a variety of destinations, including the California Coast and Mexico on seven-day cruises, and the Islands of Hawaii on 15-day cruises. Also available are three- to five-day Getaway cruises to the California Coast and Mexico.

  • Ruby Princess: Sailing out of the iconic Port of San Francisco, Ruby Princess will start with seven-day California Coast cruises before adding 15-day cruises exploring four distinct island jewels in Hawaii and 10-day Mexico cruises to the lineup.
  • Enchanted Princess: Begins with two brand new cruises from Ft. Lauderdale to start her existing inaugural season of 10-day cruises to the Southern and Eastern Caribbean.

  • Sky Princess, Regal Princess and Caribbean Princess: From Ft. Lauderdale, guests can island hop through the Caribbean with three-, five-, seven- and 14-day cruises available in the Eastern Caribbean that visit some of the best-known beaches in the world and the Western Caribbean that allows guests to explore Ancient Mayan Ruins and the beauty of unspoiled coral reefs and underwater caves.

  • Crown Princess: Travels to the Panama Canal, from Ft. Lauderdale on a series of 10-day cruises to this iconic cruise wonder of the world.

"As we continue our return to service, it is a thrill for us to be able to bring more cruise vacation options to our travel-starved guests," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises president. "We appreciate the support of government and port officials who we worked closely with to make these travel opportunities available, in a thoughtful and safe way, for our guests."

Dining, entertainment, and shore excursion details are currently being finalized and will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Princess cruises sailing through 2021 are available for guests who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise and have proof of vaccination. Crew vaccinations will be in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Thanks for sharing this update!  I’m hoping our cruise on the Enchanted in December goes through. Sounds like they are requiring COVID-19 vaccine so that makes me feel better.  Wonder how they’ll be able to require this for sailings out of Ft. Lauderdale.  Hope they can!

They can sail out of Florida but the cruise line will be fined $5,000 per pax verification violation. That adds up pretty quickly with a ship full of thousands of people.

One has to assume the outside legal counsel for Princess Cruises has informed them that the fines will never have to be paid.  They certainly aren’t going charge a passenger $1000+ to take a Caribbean cruise and then turn around and pay Florida a $5000 fine.

The other option is cancel all cruises out of Florida and depart from San Juan, Puerto Rico or another port of call for all Caribbean sailings.

Or do what RCI is doing:

Presenting proof of vaccination is voluntary. If no proof is provided, will be considered not vaccinated and:

a) Require testing during the cruise with the cost paid by the passenger (no cost if under 12 years old)

b) Require wearing a mask all times while inside except while eating, drinking, or in your cabin.

c) Limited dining times and venues

d) Only way to go ashore in a port is with a ship's excursion

... and more

We are also on the 11/6 sailing of the Crown. Does anyone have an idea how crowded the ship is, as it says that all suits are sold out, yet it seems to be the only one without a MOB?

I have never seen anything from Princess indicating how full a ship is. People have posted estimates on here, but I have no faith in those gueses.

Wasn't that just for Florida?

If other countries require only fully vaxed ships, then Princess will definitely have to skip Florida. DeSantis won't get it until the wallet snaps shut.

  • 3 weeks later...

I sure hope the November 6th Panama Canal cruise sails. This will be our first Princess cruise. We had the same cruise booked for the spring of 2020 and we all know what happened to that one. Looking forward to cruising again...
