This is FL not bahamas

Aware of that...just pointing out it isn't anything new 'in general' terms and shouldn't be earth shattering to anyone that US based cruises would require testing.  It seems a natural progression from "can't ask vacc status" to "ok, well, everyone needs to get tested to get on board then"  😉 😉

Testing is free and everywhere.....so doesn't seem like a big deal in my mind......then again....I am on a Nassau sailing in 8 days.....

We are showing vaccine status at port.  And have filled out survey ahead of time attesting to that.   So it isn't about that.

It's all about risk transference.

If you get on the boat...and then get sick/test positive...they are flying you home and rescheduling

If you test positive prior to boarding, you reschedule your cruise....

One of these paths has a higher cost to RCCL

Given the latest breathless reporting about variants and breaththrough.....

Not surprised at all to hear this.    Lots of breakthrough cases are occurring every day.   Grant it something like 98 or 99% of the vaccinated people testing positive do not require hospitalization.

But the cruise lines have to take every precaution they can to avoid any issues.   It's the responsible thing to do.

Due to the delta variant, I wouldn't be surprised if they change their policy to 95% vaccinated rule for all sailings.

For Nassau....they are taking the PCR or the Rapid Antigen test...tested within 3 days of sailing.  In most parts of the country you can walk into/schedule appointment at drug store, walmart, any number of places...and get rapid test done with results in minutes/hours and be on about your day

Does anyone know if the at home antigen tests would suffice for this?

I haven't looked, but I would bet dollars to donuts that home administered tests of any sort do not suffice.

Most likely not.  The wording says, "....with an accredited test provider such as a drugstore chain or diagnostic lab...".

Testing is free if your symptomatic. The days of free community testing are over. Insurance will cover a COVID-19 test now if you've got symptoms. If you're voluntarily testing because you're traveling, it costs money. From what I've been finding, looks like $139 around here for a PCR or $89 for an Antigen

Maybe it is location specific.

We are taking PCR tests on Tuesday next week and antigen tests on Thursday....both are no cost at the drug store in PA

Is it all cruises or just 5 nights or more?  My August one is 4 nights as is my September one

Based on what I read for our August Serenade cruise, it's 5 nights or more.  Royal has updated the protocols on their website.  They just forgot to remove the original statement saying you didn't require a test if you were vaccinated.  Gotta love the disconnect.

For Sailings 5 Nights Or Longer: Important Update For Guests
All guests age 2 and older — regardless of vaccination status — will need to take a COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) with an accredited test provider, such as a drugstore chain or diagnostic lab, no more than 3 days before arriving at the terminal for embarkation. Guests will need to show their negative test result upon arriving at the terminal. The results can be printed out, or can be presented on your phone, such as the email result from your test provider. Costs associated with this test are the guests' responsibility. This requirement is subject to change as we evaluate public health recommendations, and booked guests will be advised of the latest requirements before sailing.

Just saw that Royal now wants all of us vaccinated to get tested before the cruise too.  Pretty ridiculous.  And I have my PhD in Microbiology so I feel I can comfortably say that!  Cruising in two weeks.

What... I'm thinking ***** actually. 2 x if b2b?

I have 10 rcl cruises and fccs and nonrefundable deposits. This is not what I agreed to. Not fair. If they need to change to vaccinated cruises, not penalize vaccinated.. I'm mad.

Makes sense if you have kids and unvaccinated people on board you want to ensure NO ONE is bringing the virus on board because those people will get sicker and spread it more. Again, vaccinated people have to do more to keep unvaccinated people safe.

The vaccinated continue to pay for the choices of the unvaccinated.  Very frustrating.

That is how I feel that rcl decided to do unvaccinated and now what vaccinated to pay.

Kick off unvaccinated like carnival did, not expect me to pay for someone's risk who choose not to get vaccinated... I just read this elsewhere and came here hoping it was not true.

This is going to blow up in their faces. Everyone will be mad. I dont want 10 covid tests. Didnt agree to them.

I have a dumb question.  I fly 8/21 (Saturday) and need a test no more than 3 days before and we sail 8/22 (Sunday) and need the same.  What is the earliest we could get a test that would count for 8/22?  Would it be 8/19 (Thurs)?  Trying to only have to do one test.
