Thank you Carnival for going the 95/5 route!

I've been reading the mess going on in the RCCL threads.  While the Carnival protocols may change, they aren't going through the same change after change that some other cruise lines are.  Yes, I know many families are mad, but I still think this is much better.

Its a matter of hours before carnival requires negative covid test from vaccinated cruisers. Mark my words.Really not a big deal. A 60 second test. Results 1/2 hr later. Done. Its coming to carnival. Undoubtedly.

Actually, I agree.  I hope people don't go as ballistic, but I'm afraid they will.  It is really for everyone's safety, whether they believe it or not.  It is also good to be sure that the cruise does not end early.

We mostly sail Royal and I have had this discussion with my husband.  I wish from the beginning Royal had gone the 95% route instead of what they are doing now.  And their constant flip flopping on information every single day is making me crazy!!

Hoping the Mardi Gras has a beautiful and uneventful sailing…

Up to now, so have I, but the Casino made me offers I couldn't refuse, and I have no idea why, because I really don't gamble that much.  Even if Carnival does start to require testing, which I agree with rtaz12 will probably be announced in the next few hours, it will be the first change.

Even testing af the pier is not 100 percent.  My son tested negative on 7/24 and on 7/28 both him (10 unvaxxed) and me (fully vaxxed pfizer) tested positive.  Carnival just not telling passengers or crew about the cases.  At least 3 on the 7/24 -7/29 Breeze sailing.

Probably the 72 hour PCR test that people will get in their own hometown before they journey to the port. It would take a long time to do rapid tests on all the passengers.

Feel free to read my saga under, The Vista is now Orange? thread.  Fyi..my technical ability is quite limited...

Dwey, you are doing a FANTASTIC job of keeping us posted on your experiences. I find your reports quite valuable, from a first person's viewpoint. I'm sorry you are having to go through this ordeal, but thank you for hanging in there. I pray your symptoms have not gotten worse. And wish you a speedy trip back to home. How are your husband & son hanging in there? Again, a BIG THANK YOU!!

The 14 day on the Pride already requires a negative PCR test withing 72 hours.  I can see them doing the same for all sailings soon and maybe another at departure.

The one on Oct 31st? the last day of the CSO. On Nov 1st that requirement might change.

Even more of a reason to show up at the scheduled boarding time.

My sister tested positive and never had a fever.  That's the first sign everyone looks for.

That's a one off cruise that announced testing before the latest news. Carnival may well require testing, masks, ship only tours, etc., but Pride has nothing to do with it.

The rapid test is 99.5 % accurate. most false +\- test results come from contaminated testing samples.  During a Johns Hopkins  study in june out of every 10k rapid test there were 160 people who falsely tested +. after retesting that same cluster. only 15 people had asymptotic Covid.  So the tests themselves are good. it’s human error that is not.

I'm with you and its not even at the pier, its within 3 days of boarding go get tested on your own dime, like you have nothing else going on before boarding a cruise.

I'm against deciding after I booked to add charges.

The guy on celebrity might not have been caught in a test either who had cold symptoms on day 4, and got tested, the same day you got tested. Sounds like a cover your butt kind of thing, as it might or might not help, but will for sure upset a lot of booked cruisers who will cancel.

I am glad I'm booked carnival and have said that many times that I'm glad my first cruises restarting arent rcl. Thank you carnival.

And rcl now will charge you onboard according to how long your cruise is, does that make sense. 5 days or less 134 I think, longer cruise 178. Someone posted does that apply to mandatory test on b2b which carnival pays for.

Rcl is driving me nuts. Frankly I'm losing my zest to cruise the last few days.

Check this on Celebrity if you haven't seen it. It's way too HOT down here in FL to be waiting outside:

Easy to say though I see folks over on rcl who live in florida who say you cant even book a test for days. Have to book ahead. Not anywhere close to what you say. Adds stress.

You wait if carnival did it, people will not have this experience.

It's getting to the point that it's just not worth it. Maybe in 6 months or a year, but the difficulties are not justifiable. If our cruise in 3 weeks wasn't paid in full, I would have cancelled. But now, I feel like I'm stuck and have no choice but to proceed with the cruise.

OMG  What a mess.  Sounds like the people refusing to leave caused the majority of the problem.  Some people's children.....

Anyone cruising for at least the next six months should plan on being flexible and calm, because things are changing daily, or even hourly.  Just be prepared and don't let yourself get upset.

You're right. Thank you. But you have to admit, it's aggravating as hell.

While I like that celebrity took on the testing and cost unlike rcl, deciding late friday for a saturday cruise is crazy. Too many rushed decisions.

Yes, but the trick is to not let yourself get aggravated, even though that is difficult at times.  The way I look at it, it would be better to be on a cruise with a mask on, than at my house with no mask. If I have to get a test, well that part of my brain hasn't been cleaned since I took my first test.
