Are they filling the ships full capacity now

Is capacity calculated based on the number of passengers or the number of cabins in use?

(First post - I wanted it to be inconspicuous, but then thought it would be better if I pointed it out before someone else did.)

There are several different ways to count. One they assume 2 per cabin and with that one carnival used to typically be like 110% especially in the summer.

Full capacity is a different capacity some sometimes use as if every cabin was filled with as many pax as beds, though this one isnt the one they have been using except for ship info.

I was on the second sailing of Panorama in August and there was 2500 of 4000 on board. I have offers of like $100 to go again which tells me and you that the cruise will not be close to full.  Not only because capacity is capped but simply because nobody wants to cruise that badly right now in October. You'll have plenty of free space.

Full capacity won't happen for many months. Expect Carnival to sail with a max of 75% as long as there are restrictions, mask mandates, checking for vaccination, required testing etc. Until that ends, no cruises will go over that number.

Agree. Demand and bookings dried up when they started to require pretesting for covid. Then they moved it from 3 days to 2 days. It stresses people out. It's when I de ided to stop booking more cruises and I'm sure I'm not alone. .. of course I'm not getting those $25 pp rates or $100 balconies.

The lines are definitely trying to fill up. Some are offering travel agents some pretty amazing bonus commissions. Just throwing it everything they can at bookings.  I’m not thrilled that as a fully vaxed couple we also have to pre-test (just another hassle in our schedule) but with the amazing casino offer they kept sending up, we finally took the bait. And I’m hoping to sail in a 50% cap range. That’d be AWESOME!!!

We got off of Magic a couple of weeks ago and one of the crew members told me we were at 70% capacity by design.  I must say it was nice to have virtually nonexistent lines for the buffet, Guys, etc.

I wasn't sure what I'd think of cruising with the mask requirement but it turned out to be no big deal.

A Sept Mardi Gras sailing was in the 70 to 80% range, from estimates by the crew.

That sounds high but maybe they've increased. I know my sailing at the beginning of September had like 3,916 people and I think capacity is in the 6,000-6,500 range which would put that at 60-65%

We are just back today from the Carnival Dream - I have no idea of the % capacity but it was not full and it was simply wonderful....the casino was not packed, less cigarette smoke. Almost everyone followed the mask rules.....Carnival is doing a great job of keeping the covid standard. It is not a big deal to get the antigen test....We are going again on the Vista on Nov 13th.....

This is my issue. Testing the vaccinated (who have proof) is another inconvenience and cost.

Do you think we'll still be under a capacity restriction in March? I know it's just guessing, but would love some thoughts. Booking my spring break cruise in the next week and willing to try out Mardi Gras if the capacity may be capped.  It sure was nice sailing on the Horizon last month at 65% capacity... space everywhere!

As long as covid testing is required I think it's a safe assumption people are booking less unless there are great deals. Carnival will just give away fewer cabins.

Bookings are down the last 2 months, not up.

Just off the Vista and someone who went to the first morning show said that they said we were sailing with 39 ish % capacity.  I kind of find that hard to believe but I guess that could be right.  On sea days, only about 50% of the chairs by the pool were taken.  So whatever the capacity was, it was obviously low.  It was really nice.

Sailing 10/23/21 on Vista, I was told the ship would be at 70% capacity. Not thrilled about having to do the COVID test in 48 hours before sailing, but it's certainly not a game changer. I'm glad Carnival is doing everything they can to protect passengers. With all the great deals we've got 4 more cruises scheduled for 2022. As far as how long these protocols will be in place, as long as there are so many anti-vaxxers it's going to be a while.  Just like last year when this all started, our April 2020 cruise was cancelled we re-booked for September 2020, this would all be over by then, right? This October 23 cruise is the replacement for the April 2020 cruise. Kind of like what I've heard about WWII when it started in 1941 people were saying it would be over in a few months - four years later it was over.

Double occupancy on Mardi Gras is 5,282.

Anybody on Regal Princess right now ? I heard that European cruises were at 100% ? We're sailing on the 12th

You might find your answer over on the Princess cruise lines forum here on CC. This is the Carnival Cruise Line forum.
