Booked and concerned

This wave is spreading quickly.  By March it will be pretty much done as in South Africa it is already quieting down.  It remains to be seen what this will do to cruise ships in the meantime.  I have a final payment in less then a month.  I plan on going unless they shut down.

Booked for Wonder of the seas March 18th.  With the new variant and blah blah blah.  What are everyone’s thoughts?? Will it go? Will they stop crushing again?  I won’t cancel if this ship goes we go. But am I was it my time…

I think it is way too far out to know anything. If the Covid pattern follows last year, things will settle down by March. If they follow 2020, everything will shut down. We haven't made any changes for March, have cancelled January's plans

Nobody knows. We canceled our Christmas sailing on Mariner of the Seas this week. Most contagious variant, 100% capacity ships and children 11 and under unvaccinated. At the moment Royal has the most ships in yellow of any cruise line. Both numbers and percentages. That's not a recipe we can support right now.

We sailed NCL Escape for Thanksgiving with a 100% vaxxed ship, 45% capacity and it was awesome. If Royal was sailing only 100% vaxxed passengers including children we would have gone onboard. Yes there are still breakthrough cases but 500-1000 children, most of whom will be unvaxxed, was not something we wanted to take on. I still remember what it was like with 1000 children on Freedom for a Thanksgiving sailing a few years ago, complete mayhem. 🙂

We are leaving Friday on Freedom and super excited.  Have Freedom for Jan/Feb/Mar also.  Will not cancel any of them.  If the ship goes, we will be on it.

I really will be surprised if they cancel any more cruises, but guess you just never know.

There are 18 of us going on Freedom in Jan for my sister's retirement so I certainly hope we can go!

Those Freedom cruises out of Miami are short cruises -- the shorter the cruise the less likely anything will be detected onboard.  I went on a 3-night Freedom cruise back in September with no incidents but now that they are filling ships with a higher capacity and a new variant is among us, things may change.

We just got off Explorer on the 12th - 7 day Southern Caribbean and had no issues at all.

I kind of agree about the holiday sailings.  Kids are germ factories especially if they are in school or day care.  That’s how our DD family got covid.
Our November cruise didn’t have a lot of kids.  But most of the ones we saw weren’t being compliant with mask wearing.  I do understand they were tested multiple times.
I do love my grands and am willing to take my chances with them at Christmas. But that’s exposure to 6 and not 800.

Planning and looking forward to our March B2B Caribbean cruise.

Pat, just in case you need it, my Magic 8 Ball is standing by for any backup your Genie may need.

Thanks!!  Big relief there!!  Might need it for our B2B coming up in less than two weeks!  😮😉

leaving on Anthem NYE. No concern what so ever. We sailed in OCT and felt very safe. And the 1300 occupancy on Freedom was amazing.

We are also on this cruise and are watching every day to make a final decision. We just got off a Carnival cruise (please, never again) and they are so lax as to masking, cleaning and serving, it is scary. They let you serve yourself in the buffet, issue mask mandates and never enforce them and when people do comply, they wear the darn things on their chins.

For what I read, RCCL is much better. I sure hope so or we will cancel.

Cheers

A poster from CC posted on an FB page that NYE will sail at 3152 with 30 unvaccinated Children, his info always seems to be very solid.

Which puts this sailing at 75% is using double occupancy number's or 65% MAX capacity. We shall see what the true numbers are.  Either way I am super excited to sail and celebrate NYE.

We cancelled NYE Anthem cruise. My fear is being turned away from ports. We booked because we wanted to go to SXM. I don’t want to be stuck in my cabin. People think that won’t happen.  But looks like Odessey was turned away from Curaçao today.   There was a post on FB indicating the Casino is closed passengers are being told to stay in their cabins.  This has not been confirmed yet. But it’s exactly why I cancelled

Have you received refund or credit for your cancelled cruise?

We rebooked for February, hoping things calm down by then but if not we will rebook again for a later date.   Not huge fans of extra sea days especially on a 9 nighter with only 3 ports to begin with. Not taking any chances
