What are the chances Carnival or any cruise line eliminates Vaccine mandates?

Not really.  The vast majority of folks on a plane are not flying to board a cruise.  Also, highly unlikely to test positive less than 24 hours after exposure on a plane.

So you're saying there is a chance. That only increases if people fly in a couple of days earlier.

Many of us have long flights to get to ports. Potentially testing positive before we board despite negative tests prior to flight.

The odds are tiny, but you are correct, there is a chance.  There will always be a chance.  The choice was, is and always will be yours.

Didn't a fully vaccinated Princess ship just arrive at port full of Covid cases? ALL of my vaccinated extended family had Covid at Christmas too.

What exactly constitutes “full of Covid cases”? Princess has not released numbers and we shouldn’t speculate. Wait for the facts.

If less than 100 cases out of 1600 is "full" then possibly.

Reading that thread about the Ruby you'd think the whole cruise tested positive... but.... it sounds like it was really only 45 or so in total.

My PVP just told me the other day that they plan to keep vaccinations and Covid testing through 2024.

Haha! Yea..... OK. Maybe he told you that but that's  pretty much laughable. Pre cruise covid testing through 2024 ..... no way.

I doubt that will happen unless we have another deadly wave. Thankfully, right now the virus has lost most of its bit. I think testing will end soon but vaccinations will continue through this year.

I booked a back to back for February 2023 and my long time PVP told me she has no idea what will happen with testing and Covid requirements and at this point that is a much better answer because I believe no one knows what will happen in the future

Time is key on the vaccination proof.  At some point each jab declines in effectiveness.  So unless there are enough cases or reasons to keep boosting yearly.  Then showing proof of vaccination from several years past is going to mean what?

Currently in our area free testing is available.  If everyone has to pay to test, then that is going to impact the industry.  For example, look at the delay for the passport requirements...  Adding cost to cruising, affects the bottomline.

Just because something is a "fact" or requirement today doesn't mean a change either way will not happen. Time will tell.  In general, one always had to be flexible when traveling and still do.

So true, and it is a better answer than making something up when you really have no idea what the answer should be.

The Vista has 4069 people on it this sailing and the Breeze was at capacity three weeks ago ... with relative few deals other than slight casino discounts.

So tell me where this "missing revenue from the unvaccinated" is? The biggest deal was lifting the masking restrictions and the bubble requirements for kids.

I think it is exactly opposite of this which will happen. The fact is that both vaccinated and unvaccinated can be infected and spread covid so there really is no difference there. I could see the testing part sticking around for a while because it is the only thing that remotely makes sense for now.

However, there is a difference between the unvaccinated and the vaccinated. The unvaccinated are much more likely to need hospitalization or even die. The ships do not have the medical capacity to handle extremely sick passengers. Those who are not too sick can be quarantined.

To nuance this, I'd say "the unvaccinated that have not had prior infection"...

That makes sense but if they continue testing I hope they will allow us to use the at home test at the port and work out someway they could be monitored.

Other differences are the rate at which each group can be infected, the viral loads once infected, the rate at which they can spead to other people. Duration of illness, etc. etc.

CVS are stopping free testing for travel, the others will probably follow suit after the government money runs out.

Don't mistake full ships as profitable... if you're filling up on $40-60 per day rates, I can't imagine they're revenue positive or even covering costs.  I'd expect daily rates to be back up to $75-100 before I'd say revenue was back where they want it.

True that the number of rapid testing locations has gone down, but I'm pretty certain it's still free for those who answer the questionnaire appropriately e.g. they're are afraid they've been in close contact.

I suspect the demand for testing is down mainly because so many people got hit with Omicron that they no longer are as afraid or find a need to keep testing at every sniffle or cough.  Plus all those nifty free at-home tests finally started showing up....
