If you think cruise ships are a bubble and there is no virus on board then onboard then you are fooling yourself.

It is funny that people are not up and arms about no masking in Vegas resorts and casinos (which are very much like cruise ships) and other large resorts. Even here in California large hotels and resorts are maskless. Same risks there IMO.

Just out of curiosity, I would like to know how many people have been hospitalized or died from catching covid onboard?

That would be a interesting to see if any deaths can be attributed to a cruise ship.  I don't see how it could, so we will never know, since as you said, we don't live in a bubble.  The only way it could is if a crew member who was not allowed off the ship got covid and was hospitalized or died. And the cruise lines definitely will not release those numbers, if any.

I don't think people are in "awe" of catching covid, but how it is being handled by the cruise lines.  I have cruised two 14+ day cruises in the last few months and I knew full well that there was a chance I could get covid.  I was extra careful, and luckily escaped getting it.

You haven't heard from Princess yet?  There are no words to describe how horrible that is.

Are you feeling better?  And how is your wife doing?

As for the post cruise survey, those are kind of hit and miss these days.  No one I've spoken to who was on my February cruise got one.  Well actually I did get a link from Customer Service after I submitted a question about it through the "contact us" section of their website.

I just received the princess after cruise review. I’ll be taking my time with this when we get home. I’m feeling really weak with headache and going back to bed soon. My wife is coughing up the crud now and says she thinks she has it now too….. no matter, we plan on being on the plane tomorrow with our n95 masks. Princess says they will cover our 5 days (we shall see), but not anymore and this trip has cost us plenty not only financially but in things we can’t unsee or unexperience.

Please don’t fly while symptomatic, you are putting others at risk.

I'm sorry you both are sick, but I think it's irresponsible if you travel with your wife just getting sick.   She should be quarantining until she no longer is contagious.    That's not fair to the other people on the plane.    You would be ticked if you knew someone was traveling on a plane sitting next to you if they were still contagious.....just sayin'

I’m feeling better after 4 days of quarantine, but not back to normal and who knows we could shed Covid for weeks. This is costing us a bundle in lost work and income. If princess were refunding the quaratine people their cruise, then we could use that towards lost income….
the poopy quarantine cabin without a refrigerator, taking 5 hours to get us soda and ice for my sore throat, putting us out in the cold to wait an hour and witnessing a passenger pee on the side of the structure because they wouldn’t let back in. Then no contact from princess or a rep this whole time..

I am livid about this!
we are going home tomorrow.

we are in 1st class seating so there is more distancing and we will have n95 masks (without vent) on the way home because we had 3m high end n95 masks for our flight to fll, but since this had a vent in them, American Airlines made us replace them with a normal surgical mask.

when we get home we will stay there until we get tests sent to us and test negative .

so unless princess shows up and starts paying the bills, we can’t stay longer.

I won’t try to speak for everyone, but I believe the vast majority on this board are not “up in arms” or “worried” or “fearful” (as a couple have posted) about actually getting sick. We wouldn’t sign up for cruises at all, if we were just worried about getting sick. We are worried of contracting COVID because we don’t want to be quarantined in a stateroom on an expensive vacation and miss out on participating in the cruise we looked forward to. Very few are fearful of a few days having flu-like symptoms (since we are vaccinated). No one in Vegas is going to quarantine you to a hotel room. If I am “up in arms” it’s because I could miss out on a special vacation because of some cavalier behavior of those whose approach to COVID is “c’est la vie” while I could pay the price of being quarantined.

Exactly the way we feel too and even though Princess says it will be safe on their ships this is just not the way it is any more with very few health protocols in place anymore.

Also, when I am in Las Vegas, a grocery store, family gatherings or other events I am not under Maritime law.  I still have freedom to chose how I ill protect my self and how I will be treated if I become ill.

On a cruise ship being sent to an isolation cabin is not treatment but warehousing until they can get you to a port.  Plus, the cruise industry just has a horrible history with Covid issues in the past.

Oh dear.  To OP. can you both get a Covid test before leaving the quarantine hotel?

use the chat feature to get that Princess liaison over there to do the job our cruise money is paying for them to do.

I understand what you are saying. I suppose I just book my vacations knowing that the only behavior I can control is my own. As an example, I can't make other people wash their hands after going to the bathroom, but I can wash mine and use a paper towel to open the door.

This does not sound like two people who are fit to fly. Get tested. The squeaky wheel gets results

I love Princess but it is very disappointing reading this thread. I don't understand why they have dropped the mask mandate, no sense at all. And my biggest worry when we took our January cruise was if we were to contract covid on the cruise - I see that was a valid worry. Back then the omicrom variant was rampant and that made cruising risky but at least there were a lot of precautions, most cruisers were following them, and we felt relatively safe on the cruise. This is a whole new story going on now.

Agree.....unfortunately many passengers are probably going to suffer because Princess is putting them at risk when it is unnecessary.  Princess knows how disease on a ship works and they are kidding themselves on dropping Covid protocols.  We just canceled a cruise we were going on in two weeks because of these posts that sick passengers have been sharing on CC and we just do not want to take the chance of experiencing a costly ordeal with Covid.

Author/op- has Said all along that his wife tested negative on the ship and she has never tested again and she’s been out of the hotel room and she had symptoms of a cold/allergy from the get-go and now she’s coughing up a storm or something to that effect ,but they are going to get on a plane tomorrow and go home because Princess has not contacted them and apparently they can go home after five days no further Covid test required.

I am sure totally frustrating ,but I would’ve been on the phone to the special care hotline that has been given on this forum every day until I got a hold of someone. And apparently the author didn’t feel ( was not well enough )like making calls but his wife was out and about outside of the hotel room so she must’ve been feeling OK ?she could’ve made the calls. I know I’m not there !I’m not in their shoes but…

We will protect ourselves and others with double mask on the return. If you think Covid isn’t already on the planes, you are in denial. On the way to fll there were people taking off masks and Covid cough along the way. It’s possible this whole outbreak was caused by not retesting at the port and onboard.
the way things are going, I would t doubt that they will remove airline mask mandates tomorrow since they removed cruise restrictions after all this.

Sorry, but I guess you didn’t read all the pages. We did trying calling many times the 1st 2 days but couldn’t get though just like when calling for our drinks.

I tried saving all our communications but they would end the conversation and not allow reopening.

It makes me sick to read about inconsiderate and selfish people. Covid can kill some people. Do what is right and stop rationalizing.
Trip insurance should cover extra days.

Wow, I’m shocked by so much of what I’m reading.   Sounds like it’s been handled really poorly by Princess.   But we also have to take responsibility for ourselves and others.   We always buy insurance,  that should pay costs if we have to stay longer. If people want to travel at this time they need to limit the costs by insurance but also be responsible and quarantine if you are ill.  It’s unconscionable do anything less.   What if someone you expose dies?

My son just got Covid because someone tested negative and thought they had allergies, and then tested positive. Please let’s protect ourselves and others.

Sorry,

you truly had my support and sympathy until these last posts.

take care of yourselves.

I am definitely not doing n denial and I just get the impression you/ your wife should be getting after Princess and get them to test you now.  No one answered phone. Send wife to hotel desk and ask for help getting through to Princess

I too run a business and try to treat my customers the way I would want to be treated and I put myself in their shoes and follow thru.

rhis has not happened with princess. The crew did their best I expect under the circumstances, but testing our cuise with reducing testing is on corporate. And their not compensating us fairly for our harm and time locked up in a room for 5 days.
if princess really cared about us, they would have taken good care of us, treat us as they would want to be treated and that didn’t happen.

The situation @Optotronicsfaces illustrates the dilemma we face as a society regarding Covid.

Should all the burden be placed on them because they drew the short straw and caught Covid?  Is it reasonable to expect them to stay in a quarantine hotel for weeks without any financial support?

I don't know the answer, but I personally will not be so quick to judge someone else's actions until I've walked a mile in their shoes.

I am sorry that you got sick and got Covid on your cruise and most likely your wife has Covid now too. BUT I can not believe how irresponsible you are willing to be by getting on an plane tomorrow and flying while still having symptoms. I am sure both you and your wife would test positive should you be tested and you should be tested before stepping on a plane. I am so sick and tired of the me me attitude of people these days with no concern for others. You made the decision to travel knowing fully their was a reach to be exposed to and catch Covid. If you choose to travel now without proper insurance to take care of you should you get Covid that falls totally on you and you have absolutely no business getting on a plane tomorrow until you test negative.

I agree.

we were not selfish, but everyone has their limits. The selfish are those going around onboard in side without masks, flying and taking masks off. Princess for removing precautions and not enforcing smoking and mask requirements.

the best advice I can give is to get n95 mask without a vent for your flight and don’t take it off to eat or drink because others will be.
