How do the prizes work and what do you get?

Just signed up for the Discovery and we signed up for the promotion with the prizes listed. How does this work? What prizes do they give out? Has anyone ever really received one?  Just curious.  We have not cruised since June and then they did not seem to do this.  Any answers will be appreciated. If this has been discussed before I am sorry I did not find it. I have not been on cruise critic for a long time.

Can tell you from practical experience.

 

On your cabin door there will be a Princess Prizes emblem, when you get near your door it will tell you if you have won a minor prize ~$25 OBC or have been entered in to the end of cruise drawing.  You can try to scan your card every 10-15 minutes when the casino is open.  We saw 1 time where we had "Entered into Final Draw"

 

Edit.. The above is included in the Princess Premium package, or you can add $20 per day to play the screen and hope for a prize.

 

End of cruise they draw (pre-draw) and announce several prizes for $25, $50 and then the cruise Grand Prize (up to $100,000) on our cruise, it was first announced that the grand prize would be $1,000, but it was actually $5,000.   

 

We happened to be in the Piazza when they announced the winners and it was a shock when they called our cabin and my name for the Grand Prize.  It is a given as a cash prize ($50x $100 bills), and you have to complete the associated Tax documents.

 

My wife's name was actually drawn for the Grand Prize, but they put my name on the cheque and I posed for photos with the Captain and the Cruise Directors.  We later found out her name was drawn when we went to the Casino to pick up the prize. 

 

It is paying for our next cruise, when we head on a 16 night to Hawaii next year.

Wish that was the case... but it just proved that we had WAY too many specialty Coffee's at the International Cafe.  Especially when the wait staff would greet me by name and start making my Cappuccino.

We won a $250 from door. We didn't see it pop up on our door - just the congratulations.  But it showed up on our bill. 

 

We enjoyed the fun of seeing the congratulations on the door when we opened it but looking at the bigger picture I am guessing this is a very nice profit center for princess and not something I would pay extra for if it wasn't bundled with the premier drink package we wanted. 

 

The drawing was pretty weak with 4100 people on board Discovery Princess and only like 3-4 small $25-$100 winners and the Grand Prize of $5000.

it would appear that once you choose the option (at whatever point it is during the cruise) you're in for the remaining days - and then cannot opt out again.

We are doing it as well. On 6th day of cruise and won a bunch of drawings tickets and 1 $25 credit. I'm curious if each time you win a drawing ticket if it counts or you only get one ticket. There is no way to check. Also cruise lady told me if you win they leave a voicemail on your cabin phone too.

I do not cruise Princess but let me make sure that I have this correctly.  They charge you to enter some sort of contest where you can win prizes of undefined value or maybe nothing at all.  Do I have it write as it isn't clear from reading the contest rules.  Does anyone win anything of value.

Yes, they do!  There has been a drawing at the end of each cruise since this started and the grand prize is $5000 in cash.  The people next door to us won that grand prize on our last cruise.  
It’s gambling, such as buying a lottery ticket.

You get an entry every time you unlock your door with the Medallion and then open and close it if you are at sea while the casino is open.

Well,  I checked the odds, but it doesn't ßm state  'frequency' ie, each cruise,  so many days etc.  So,  even though it says 1 in 2000 win $250, it doesn't say how often... very unclear...
