No, actually it isnt.  Those are "reactions to an issue" not the data that informs those reactions.  Same as the statement from Duffy and the dogs are reactions.  How much, what kind, when, where, that is Data.  Statements that there is illegal drug use everywhere is just that, a statement. When people say they smelled marijauna on thier cruise its usually 1 or 2 people doing it out of 5,000 but the comments are always "so much marijauna being smoked on our cruise" or "lots of drug use on our cruise" making it sound like only 2 people out of 5000 were not smoking it.

What is an acceptable level of illegal drug use around you and your family on your vacation, in your opinion?

Is this really happening that often, or do we love to rehash the news of the actions of 1 person per every 25,000? I've been on double-digit Carnival cruises, and can't say it's definitely worse than anywhere else.

Well this is like the 5th time the president of the cruise line is saying they're taking it seriously, so you tell me...

I have sailed on NCL and there was the very same marijuana issue there as well. The rude, obnoxious and arrogant guests are everywhere now perhaps a bit more on Carnival but I have personally witnessed security telling parents to stop their kids from running on lido and they basically told security to FO...

See, in my mind when you are politely asked by security to do or stop something and respond inappropriately by denying their authority, consequence escalation becomes necessary.  I'm not exactly sure what the protocol should be but being immediately detained and escorted to your locked cabin seems pretty close.  And it's not just about that one individual or group.  Everyone on Lido will see it.  And think twice in the future.

The drug use is just the noticeable end result, not the cause.  The problem is the character of the people using those drugs, those willing to violate the law and smuggle drugs and more likely to be involved in other criminal and otherwise disruptive behavior.  People have always been annoyed or offended by others on cruise ships, that is nothing new.  The generally law abiding citizen is just more likely to handle it without conflict.

Yes, we had a drug sniffing dog pass by us one-by-one in the PC terminal before boarding Magic January 14, 2023.

Same with the "line up" on the Panorama 1/7/23 out of Long Beach.  Funny thing is, someone asked one of the officers is this was about food and he just smiled and shook his head no.

On another cruise line, the disrespect and discriminations towards US citizens was the most horrid thing I have ever seen.  We are ALL people - you dont need to physically push anyone aside or be horrible to other people that may not be your nationality.  I was shocked.  But it does happen.

We have been on many cruises with various mass market lines as well as many land vacation in many countries.  I have yet to experience anything I would consider discrimination against Americans.  So, I'm curious.  I can see out being in a different cultural environment might be uncomfortable if the expectation is things will be like they are at home.   Otherwise, scratching my head on this one.

5 more years and the cruises will have THC bars.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Bringing it back to the topic at hand, I wonder what Carnival's reaction would be if Congress decided to make MJ legal.  Would they go, "Woo hoo!"  Would they breathe a sigh of relief?  Would they keep the same old rules?  Or would they clear some shelves and stock the newly legal merchandise in the gift shops?

I doubt it,  Crew are under zero tolerance rules and second hand smoke would be an issue.

I highly doubt it.

1. The smell is off putting to many cruisers, like cigarettes.

2. Every foreign port would have to have legalized the substance, otherwise it would be trafficking.

3. It creates a safety liability.

This is correct. The problem other than it being illegal is that they can't control how much you consume like they can with 15 drinks per day, that's a safety issue.

We can't smell edibles and it is the stink that people are complaining about.  If users simply stuck to edibles onboard, I know I wouldn't care.

They don't work the same.

You eat an edible and wait, and wait, and wait....half hour, 45 minutes? Then, how much "hit" does it have? Do you eat another?

Imagine when you go to the bar to get your drink, and you drink it, but feel nothing for an hour and then you MIGHT be buzzed, might not be.

It's not the same.

That said, it can be "smoked" discreetly simply by using vape cartridges. You also do not need to puff puff like a choo choo to pizz people off. You can discreetly inhale and slowly, gently release it and no one is the wiser. Many strains have have a fruity scent and vape removes alot if not all of the weedy smell.

This is not your old dirt weed stuff from your high school daze, it's high tech stuff now...vape, dabs, shatter, then drinks, food, candies and more...and good old dirt weed is still around too.

I vape because I do not want to smell weedy.

No one knows I do it.

Weed doesn't make people unruly or fight.

People need to quit with the bad rap on weed. Many (of us) are actually prescribed it instead of pills to manage PTSD, insomnia and many other issues. I don't even get high, it only levels me out, same as some pill might do....but of course I have to try 20 different pills to find out which works for me and eventually it'll stop working and have to try all the different pills and weights again.

If you don't like the smell, fine, understood. Yes, I do know what the laws and rules are, not advocating anyone break those rules, only saying weed isn't meth.

So don't act as if weed is creating anything more than mellow people.

More people should smoke weed.

Many of the weed strains have smoke that give me migraines.  Others have smoke that make me nauseous.  Also, if there is enough smoke, I can feel the effects of it, too.  And if I can feel it, so can my children.

I don’t care if people enjoy it but when it affects others who don’t want to partake then it’s an issue. I have many friends who use it for medical issues and it has changed their life for the better.  I understand the need for it to be used medicinally without a break, but if there is a way to keep the smoke away from others, this would be preferred.

Actually no it is not. Seems like it is routine and should be taking place regularly. We should be under the assumption that it's US Customs and TSA doing these checks and not Carnival doing them. I doubt they are just checking Carnival ships...

"Routine"?   Then explain why Carnival is THE only cruise line that deploys drug-sniffing dogs for departing cruises at the Port Canaveral terminal.

It's not like our media/public perceptions are ever shaped around 1 or 2 incidents vs logic and data.

This is where people have lost respect for others.

I wouldn't smoke in front of you or anyone. I am always discreet in public. If I did take a hit, you'd likely never know. If you noticed and said something, a respectful person, like myself, will understand, stop or move on.
