I’m going to miss the smell of weed on my cruises. Is it really a Carnival cruise without the smell of weed? 😜

Our trivia host got a whiff when the door opened on ocean plaza during trivia.  She said someone is having a lot of fun out there.  LOL

I hadn't seen the new no speakers policy! That's a bummer as I like to have a small speaker in our cabin to play music from my downloaded playlists. I guess I can play it from my phone speaker - but it won't sound as good! (I know - first world problem! LOL). I mean, I get the reasoning behind it. But with everyone having smart phones with speakers, people can just play from those on deck if they really want their own music. I wouldn't force our music on anyone else - it's for our cabin only while we are getting ready for dinner usually. We don't even take it out on our balcony!

Small personal speakers are still OK for in-cabin use. Something like a Sonos Roam or Beats Pill. Large speakers, boom boxes, etc., are not allowed.

To the people that ask did you call security  did you go to guest services, why is that MY job? I'm on vacation, they know there is a problem, they need to look for it and correct it. We have done over one hundred cruises, mostly with carnival, but dont even have one booked with them now, and 11 booked with. various other lines.

Speak to them with your money folks.

Yes, if you have a compliant you need to put it in front of the people who can resolve it.  How does Security know if loud music is being played on the balcony next to you?

I agree that guests should complain because otherwise the company has plausible deniability. But I also disagree - the crew and the company knows what's going on. Otherwise we wouldn't be on our third or fourth "we're taking this seriously" tour from Christine Duffy. The crew may be ill-equipped or ill-trained to deal with it, but they know what is happening on the ship absolutely. If they know you're a good tipper before you even get on the ship, they know when somebody's smoking pot on Empress deck.

Part of it is their security have no teeth. You have a 5'7" carnival employee with just some hand cuffs and a key vs a 6'1 drunk. Judging by the videos of their response to fights they are not trained in dealing with violent or combative individuals and they don't have the tools to deal with.

Security is not prepared for the entire family to defend their drunk member. Time for tazers

They 'know" from complaints that come in far too late to be addressed.

then they have no business running a cruise line. Okay one isolated incident you could say they need training. But week in, week out for years now - incompetence or maybe this is their new business model.

No business can fix a ghost.  Add in the fact, many "complaints" are on social media with no proof.

Tbh the sound of a taser being arc tested makes most people rethink their actions. I am certified to use tasers and they are very effective.

And things like bluetooth speakers were now banned entirely. This kind of irked me because we always bring a small one to play white noise on while we sleep, but NBD we just used the phone itself. I don't know if it was in defiance over the new rules being enforced, or we just lucked out on every other cruise, but this cruise -- immediately after the proclamation had been made -- it was a big issue with the speakers.

The Policy on speakers still says they can be used in your stateroom btw.

  • Guest must use earphones when listening to music or watching shows/movies on personal devices in public spaces. Bluetooth, portable and wireless speakers are only permitted within your stateroom and must be used respectfully and at reasonable sound levels and times of day. Carnival reserves the right to amend this policy for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests.  Please check your pre-cruise notifications for your specific cruise. Large speakers/radios are always prohibited on board and will be confiscated.

I guess it depends on the ship!  We just got off the DREAM on Sunday and security was everywhere.  And guess what?  No kids running the halls banging on doors all night, no kids running at all.  no speakers, no arguments, nada. No bad behavior that we saw though we did hear that a man punched another man in the casino one night, and was arrested and put in the ship jail for the remainder of cruise.  It was the most pleasant cruise we have been on in years.

That was our experience on the Panorama as well.

We should stop having laws too since they are not all enforced.

I once had a class with a college professor who said that the 2 worst laws were speeding and alternate side of the street parking. And the reason they were the worst laws was everyone broke them without any punishment. And once you broke one law without consequences, the next laws were much easier to break.

Because like all "law enforcement", there is a fine line between having sufficient presence to deter/catch wrong-doers, and feeling like a police state with regular patrols every 5 minutes.

If security doesn't know there is a bluetooth speaker annoying someone somewhere, they might not ever know if they aren't patrolling around in that area.  Maybe it's an area that hasn't normally been a problem, so they are hanging around the clubs or the pools or the casino or wherever there might be a more regular incident.

So by that reasoning no one should be calling the police in your city “because they know what is going on”. Knowing something happens on occasion does nothing to establish specific time and place. And it is even harder on a city full of ever changing tourists. They can’t say certain cabins or neighborhoods are problematic because the people change.

I don’t believe I will ever sail with Carnival ever again due to the selfish, immature and unruly hooligans I’ve encountered that take away some of the enjoyment from the entire experience while cruising.  That is my only issue with Carnival.

You may be jumping to premature conclusion. I have never witnessed any unruly behavior on my Alaska, New England and Panama Canal cruises but I saw enough of that on Caribbean cruises. It has a lot to do with ship itineraries and month of the cruise, not necessary the cruise line.

Referring to speakers by the pool not my balcony. How do they know? They have acknowledged the problem, they know.

If they start enforcing it around common areas where they know there is a problem, we can talk. They know there is a problem. If they cant figure it out I will leave them to it until they do. Not a loss to me.

We will have to agree to disagree.  It has more to do with the cruise line and the passengers who are attracted to them than you suggest.  I’ve been on several carnival cruises in the Caribbean and other Caribbean cruises with other cruise lines.  None of these issues on MSC or Celebrity. Only Carnival in my experiences.
