Flight into Miami

Assuming NOTHING goes wrong, you should be able to make it...but there can be NO delays! Did you book on your own, or thru the cruise line? If thru the cruise line then it's fine..they will get you there...

If you booked this flight, fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan!!! Hop in a CAB as soon as you get your bags!!!!

Can you change your flight? This is cutting it awesomely close. Even if you just pack carry on luggage you will need to hope that NOTHING goes wrong (weather delays on either end, traffic problems in Miami, etc). If I recall correctly you need to be onboard 2 hours prior to sailing so you're leaving yourself 1 hour from MIA to POM. Not sure I would count on a cab either, I would book a car. Not trying to scare you just trying to be realistic....

Im boarding the Getaway on 9/19 and my flight isnt due to arrive until 12:56. Will I be ok on time if they dont leave until 4 pm?

I would not be comfortable cutting it so close. Traffic in Miami can be fierce and weather in September could delay your flight and/or make the drive from the airport longer. Remember it is hurricane season.

Consider spending the night before in Miami and you'll have plenty of time to board early and start enjoying your cruise:)

Saturday traffic shouldn't be too bad...basically a 30 min cab ride port to port. Plenty of cabs waiting outside.

Bags usually at conveyor by the time you get there...could take up to 20 minutes from one side of the airport to the luggage.

Tight/probably will add stress to your life, but doable.

I'm probably more comfortable with a tighter itinerary than most, but you are cutting it extremely, extremely close. To add some more tension, from the flight time it looks like you also have a connection in Atlanta. I would most definitely try to change that flight. If things go 100% as scheduled you will still be extremely tight on time, but if there are any hiccups what so ever you are at great risk for missing the ship. I would need a nerve pill and a cocktail (or 3) before I made it to that ship.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!!

The ship embarks at 4pm. The manifest has to be submitted to homeland security 60 minutes before. Meaning all checked in by 2:30pm.

You've only got 1 hr and 34 minutes from the time your flight "should" be arriving until you must be on the ship. Personally, I would be so nervous that I just wouldn't do it.

Yes if all is on time. I would not bank on it. Good luck if you attempt it.

I think I need to fly with Albanez! We fly into and out of Miami fairly regularly (we live in SWFL) and I have never ever had our luggage hit the conveyor belt before we did! Also, traffic on Saturdays in the Miami and POM areas can be brutal...especially if there are other ships in port!

Another no way. I've sailed out of Miami many times. And I have certainly been in a cab leaving airport at 1pm and have been on time to cruise ship. But I don't think you will be at the curb at 1 to catch flight. I missed my flight a couple of weeks ago due to security issues (not enough security on to process everyone) and they wouldn't hold the plane for people stuck in security.

After paying out $$$ for a cruise I wouldn't risk missing the ship.

Also having plane tickets issued from NCL don't guarantee they will wait for. There have been countless reports on CC where they haven't waited.

I've booked late arrivals and early departures without a problem so far. I only do so when: 1) it is a direct flight; 2) no checked baggage; 3) never during the winter; and 4) lower valued cruises/cabins. I agree that it does add some stress, but sometimes they are the only flights available. For high cost cruises, where we splurge on a better cabin or go on a longer (seven day) cruise, we usually skip insurance and book an arriving flight a day before the cruise.

We flew into Miami 4 weeks ago. From our plane landing, to sitting in a cab took one and a half hours.

Queues/lines for immigration weren't too bad, but horrendous lines to clear immigration. The lines snaked around the luggage carousels, and nobody could tell which line went where - it was a nightmare

I wouldn't risk it

ok, so everyone has convinced me to fly in the night before. I really dont want to take the chance.

That brings me to another question. In order to save money and fly out a bit later on Saturday. What kind of recommendations do you have on what to do after I disembark? We will have all our luggage and the flight Im looking at doesnt leave until almost 6 pm. That gives quite some time in Miami.

It is not only hurricanes you need to worry about. Because Florida is peninsula, we deal with sea breezes from both the east and west and storms that appear along the line of the two systems meeting.

One can also have a problem with weather like we have had for several days. There was a strong system blowing in from the west with thunderstorms starting early morning and sweeping across the state until the evening hours.

Airports will close (no luggage loaded or unloaded) if there are lighting strikes within two miles of the airports and flights diverted. The airports were a mess here with delays and closures due to the bands of storms.

I don't know about Miami activities, but by coming in a day early, you've extended your vacation and will be totally relaxed. I suggest a 10:30 am port of Miami arrival time. If all is normal, porters will be standing b for yo to check your baggage. The terminal will be just beginning to process new guests. You will be near the front of the crowds and go through security and NCL check in quickly. You will be give a group boarding number which will be a low number. When boarding begins about 11:30, you will be some of the first guests on board and your vacation has begun. We like to then just start eating, having an adult beverage, sit back and people watch...and of course explore the ship. Rooms should be open around 1 pm or so. Then on debarcation day, you need to be out of your room by 8:30 and off the ship by 9:30. But that will still give you a relaxed opportunity to have another good breakfast...and not hurry, hurry. You've made a good decision....my opinion.

We are in the same boat:D with our Nov. cruise. The cruise line offers a couple excursions that will drop us at the airport, one a Miami city tour & the other an Everglades airboat ride, so we are considering one of those.
