A magic genie grants you a wish of staying onboard a Celebrity Cruise for FREE for a year. Bad news is you have to work onboard ship for a month to qualify for the priveledge, which job do you think would be the best to have????And the worst????

To me the best job where I would work with passengers would be in Future Sales.Future Sales staff get much more time in Port and rarely meet irate passengers.

The worst job where I would work with passengers would be Captain's Club Host. You deal with lots of difficult passengers who feel "entitled". Responsible for many important events. The position is really low in the chain of command, although passengers think the position has authority. Many CC Hosts have saved their sanity by moving into Future Cruises.

Best: Working in the ILounge. Short hours and it's rarely busy.

Worst: Customer 'Service' Desk. Everyone's complaining and you can't do much about it.

I've seen ILounge staff getting lots of abuse from angry passengers who "lost" their minutes, or just frustrated by internet performance.

What a fun post!!

I have always said I would enjoy working in future cruise sales on a ship ... maybe so, maybe not if it came down to it but I could see myself doing this. The thing is, I only speak one language so not sure that would ever work. The other job I wouldn't mind doing is working in the casino since they are smoke free and closed while in port ... maybe still work involved but have seen these staff out and about in port many times.

I am not sure if I could work on the activities staff -- you have to be upbeat always! I don't think it would be the worst job onboard, just not something I could handle.

Fair enough. I can see that happening. I'll change to Tender Driver.

I like this thread!

Best: I would love to give lectures a few times a week or teach a craft of some sort during the sea days and hopefully have my evenings and port days free.

Worst: I think Security would be difficult - facing all those angry people called to the Naughty Room, although I wonder if they share the booty?;)

I wouldn't want to work a month on a cruise ship in any position. We have a friend signed up for 6 months on Oasis of the Sea at Caribbean. She was very excited thinking that it is a dream job. She couldn't last the length of her contract. She has an officer ranking so she could go off at ports, but even then she said it is really really lonely. Yeah you make friends with crews but you are cut off with your normal life. Some crew members can't get off at port or even go up on the deck. They just work, sleep, eat, work, and repeat.

Having said that, if I HAVE to work for a month, I would be the person at the Gelato station across from the Coffee shop. Almost no one ever buy Gelato.. so you just stay there all day don't have to do anything! I wonder if they will let you read LOL.

That would be my luck, a magic genie that doesn't just give me something for free. I would see him pop out, I would get all excited and then he would tell me the good news and then there would be the BUT.....!

This is interesting.

I would like to teach counted cross stitch and then needlework finishing (as in what to do with it after you finish stitching it) as a guest "artist" before I get my free year. Heck, I'd even teach it during that year ha ha.

I wouldn't want to work in Guest Relations or anywhere at that desk. I have observed the rudest and most entitled passengers verbally abusing the staff there. I also wouldn't want to work in the hot kitchen or in the laundry.

The three biggest lies told by crew on a cruise ship

1. This is my last contract

2. I love you

3. I'm never going to drink again

I would happily enjoy any job ship side and take great pride in guests noticing the 'pride I took ' in my excellent bar service, dining service, laundry service....

The one job I would not like at X at the moment is answering the phone to all those guests who are genuinely struggling with IT issues....They have limited skill and power to resolve but are 'front line' when issues arise we try to deal with....

So, here is to you, all telephone operators, your role is appreciated, however frustrated us guests may be!

As this is fantasy, I will pretend that I still have my registration and work my month in the medical centre. Otherwise, I would want to give some sort of lecture.

For me, the worst possible job would be in the kids' clubs,, even 1 day of that would have me running for the hills.

I'd love to spend the first week as CEO of the cruise line and change a few things. To heck with naughty rooms, I'd bring back walking the plank.

Then the best job on the ship would be security! Orator, send me your "entitled" and I'll take them for a walk.:D

vtcruising, that's the other thing I'd change when I was CEO, change Security from just Security to Security and Piracy, shiver me timbers!;p

I almost forgot about the worst job on a ship. For me that would have to be the lounge piano player/singer. I'd love playing and belting out the tunes, but the other 4,000 cruisers aboard might make me walk the plank! :)

Best - the guy in the back who gets to whip the people who are rowing

Worse - one of the rowers.

Next cruise folks have the most perks. Some of the performers have great privileges - we saw a couple of acrobats and their child out and about at almost every European port we went to. I wouldn't want to be a cabin steward or a waiter. Too many hours. They almost never get off.
