Rare Ken the cruiser Posted September 30, 2016 #4251 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Sorry ... Corrected link http://f.e.hollandamerica.com/i/41/1010169812/Smoking_Policy.pdf Thanks for the correction and more importantly THANK YOU for sharing the HAL smoking policy letter with us and thank you HAL for finally getting in line with the other cruise lines!! Happy days are here again!!
kennicott Posted September 30, 2016 #4252 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Hallelujah----I'm getting ahold of HAL and asking them to put us back on their future cruise mailing list. Hope this isn't a gag. If not this places HAL as one of the most restrictive smoking lines now. Princess is tough but they offer exclusive cigar and cigarette lounges i.e. "Churchill's"
OVgirl Posted September 30, 2016 #4253 Share Posted September 30, 2016 About time :). But we are somewhat surprised about the timing and relatively fast implementation. We know of several World Cruise regulars who book suites so that they have a decent smoking venue (on their balcony). One wonders if anyone will cancel. Hank Amsterdam and Prinsendam do not get the updated policy until April and May.

Aquahound Posted September 30, 2016 #4255 Share Posted September 30, 2016 And HAL will never provide indoor smoking lounges. Well, that's not entirely accurate considering Noordam has one. ...this places HAL as one of the most restrictive smoking lines now. Princess is tough but they offer exclusive cigar and cigarette lounges i.e. "Churchill's" Celebrity is the most tough. According to these rules, Oosterdam and Eurodam will be even with Celebrity as the most restrictive on smoking. Curious though...why did they choose those 2 ships to not allow casino smoking?

Curious though...why did they choose those 2 ships to not allow casino smoking? Because they were the first to be refurbished where the Sports Bar has been eliminated, the Piano Bar walls taken down and opened to the Casino, and the new Gallery Bar introduced which also opens onto the Casino. So basically, the Casino is an integral and open part of an entertainment area and is no longer its own separate space. Other Vista ships will follow as time goes by. Area is more open and close to Casino hence no smoking.
Sequim88 Posted September 30, 2016 #4259 Share Posted September 30, 2016 ms Oosterdam and ms Eurodam casinos are completely non-smoking, however. This is the best part for us since we will have an Inside on Oosterdam next year. Now we can actually use the casino! I wonder if this is a test through to gauge casino revenue change - either way. blizzardboy Posted September 30, 2016 #4260 Share Posted September 30, 2016 (edited) I'm a non-smoker who wonders if the "no-smoking-on verandas" lobby will now direct their whining towards a real problem, like rampant mosquito-repellent use on verandas while in port. ;) Edited September 30, 2016 by blizzardboy
alwaysfrantic Posted September 30, 2016 #4261 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Previous to this announcement weren't ecigarettes banned in staterooms but will now be allowed? Sounds to me like smokers were given a concession at the same time non smokers were as well.

I think you are correct. Seems strange it is permitted now.

Seems strange it is permitted now. E-cigarettes have always been allowed in staterooms, but only in the designated smoking areas outside. Seems to me now that the elephant in the room is the casino. What makes HAL think that smoke in the casino is less intrusive than verandah smoking? The smoke just spreads everywhere around the casino. Since we have a smoker in our cabin, we can just book the cheap seats from now on.

CTBob Posted September 30, 2016 #4266 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Maybe my luck is changing. Recently had a Celebrity cruise change to a charter and lost that reservation, but my reservation on the Koningsdam is for January 8th! This is the first day for the new smoking policy on the K-dam. My wife will be especially happy.

I am wrong then about there being a concession to smokers.

A new thread was posted just a while ago, in fact, the original announcement. I was one of many posters on this thread. If they move it here, most people will miss it :( Not everyone reads this thread and unless people know about the new policy, they won't. It's what brought me here ;)

sandij Posted September 30, 2016 #4274 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Totally unfair, booked a cruise for DH to smoke on balcony and they change the rules a week before our cruise. I would have gone to different line for better price/ Will know better in future.
