Question About Poor Quantum Reviews

Recommended Posts

I realize that every new ship has its kinks to work out, which would result in initially mixed reviews, but were the reviews for the Oasis this "uneven" following her debut? I want to book the Anthem and am having a really hard time pulling the trigger.

Everything new has kinks to work out....you can take the word of others, or go and enjoy something yourself. No matter what ship, or age of ship -- you will find good and bad reviews -- and all of them are very subjective (even the good ones).

Remember only a small percentage of people participate on CC, and negative voices ring louder than happy ones (not just in this, but overall in society).

We have all been to restaurants or movies/shows at home that others disliked, yet we loved them.

Everyone goes on a cruise with different expectations. Go and enjoy....set yourself up for a GREAT vacation and HAVE one. Worry less and enjoy more.

So are you looking to book Anthem or Quantum....whichever, just do it, as Nike says.

We loved the Quantum so much that when we got home I just had to book another cruise on her for the end of this month. I am also looking forward to the Anthem in January. We liked the flexible dinning. Although we made all our dinning before boarding we were able to change times and dinning rooms with no problem. We were happy being able to book our evening entertainment before hand. It is all up to the individual. Love the smart ship. Was not able to download the RC app before sailing because I had an android (it is now available).but I used my iPad. For us the ship is just perfect.

I loved my 9-day Quantum cruise and today I booked another 9-day cruise on the Anthem. I still like the Oasis class a little better but I will now be happy on any Oasis, Quantum, Freedom or Voyager class ship.

My Quantum review is in my signature if you are extremely bored.

Don't let negative reviews make your decision. Read each one very closely. Many people who liked a cruise just never write about it. We did Quantum 2 weeks ago. Dining was a negative but they are trying hard to fix it. But loved the rest of the cruise. So, use the negative cruises to set expectations that are real. I knew dining would be difficult as I read the reviews. Be sure to check reservations. Expect slow service so time shows, etc. accordingly. We found that dining took a minimum of 2 hours. So we finally adjusted our times so we would have two and a half to 3 hours to dine before a show. There are still occasional technical glitches. But all in all it was a wonderful cruise.

I have been on two quantum cruises - maiden Transatlantic in November and Southern Caribbean in January - there was great progress from November to January - after some initial difficulties, it has improved - some new initiatives and changes can sometimes be difficult to implement - but I enjoyed truly my caribbean cruise.

You can read my experiences on my Southern Caribbean blog.

We loved Quantum in January. The ship is beautiful, and the entertainment is the best we have experienced on Royal. However, we are not big fans of Dynamic Dinning, but overall the food was good. The Windjammer is the best we have experienced on Royal as well as the cabins.

Put it this way... There are some who hire a private transportation somewhere hoping for a Rolls Royce and when the Bentley shows up, says to him/herself "you know, not exactly what I was hoping for, but its still top quality". There are others who hope for the Rolls, get the Bentley, and it absolutely ruins their trip to the point where they can't find happiness anywhere else.

The second kind of person tends to be the one most vocal on Cruise Critic.

Excellent analogy. I agree 100%

We had some issues on Quantum's 3 nighter, went back on her for 10 nights in January, had no issues due to Quantum adding additional staff. Going back again on Quantum in April for 12 nights and booked quite a few future Anthem sailings. We enjoyed DD and will be doing the same dining on our future Anthem sailings as oppose to their new *classic* option of Dynamic Dining.

Just finishing up 12 day sailing on Q, and to our great surprise everything has gone smoothly. We read the same reviews and spent hours on the phone with Royal getting our dining and entertainment set, but once aboard it has been smooth sailing.

All our reservations were still in place when we boarded, dinner never took over 1 1/2 hours (addition of asst waiters seems to have worked wonders) and the food and service have been excellent. After day 6 all the restaurants switched from the "A" Opulence menus to the "B" Excellence ones which added variety. The windjammer food is the best we've ever had on a royal ship, very much like Celebrity S class. We still prefer traditional dining, but that's a personal preference.

Our cabin (d1) is spacious enough, with ample storage and none of the strange creaking that has been reported.

My one recommendation is to make sure that you get your entertainment booked ahead of time. You can walk into the complimentary restaurants most nights without a reservation if you get there by sixish, but if you don't have show reservations you'll have to wait outside as a standby until 10 minutes to showtime and then scramble for the cheap seats.

Bottom line, we feared the worst, and ended up with a very nice cruise. No reason to be scared away.

I agree that every vacation is what you make of it and it can't be a terrible cruise. However, there are substantially more negative or neutral reviews for Quantum than any other RC new build in memory. To answer your question, no, Oasis did not have many negative reviews at all. Most of them were rave.

Quantum is a big, big ship. Make your judgment by that. Are you ready for a big, big ship with lots and lots of people?

That's what I thought and that's what concerns me a little, but now I'm leaning towards Anthem over Allure. Have been on Allure once, Oasis twice, I live in NJ, so maybe it's time for a change!

And big ships don't bother me!

Really appreciate everyone's opinions.

I really think the more negative reviews of Quantum vs Oasis when it came out is that they made A LOT of changes, which would naturally require more time for things to be operating smoothly and efficiently.

The OP is considering either Quantum class or Oasis class.

Oasis class is larger with more passengers.

Please stop trying to "scare" him/her/them.

As a Diamond Plus Member and as Shareholder, I hope Royal is successful with the Quantum Class. However, I have no desire to spend hours on the phone working out my entertainment plan or when or where I eat every night.

I work very hard for the vacation money and the time I spend with my family is very important. It is not my idea to use the phone, book online my activities for vacation, or get myself upset because all the work I did either disappeared or was changed at the whim of Royal.

It is bad enough that I may be required to book the Ice Show on the Freedom Class, but I eliminated that option by staying in a suite.

I guess I am not ready for the Quantum or even the Oasis Class. All I want to his the relax, eat some good food, enjoy meeting others, and participating in seeing different cultures, not an amusement park at sea.

LOL...it's "her."

Really, my only "concerns" revolve around working out kinks (technology/reservations issues, service at dinner). I don't LOVE making reservations ahead of time, but I've gotten used to it after 3 Oasis class sailings. If I didn't mention it, Cape Liberty is my "home port," so there's a huge convenience factor. However, even with flying, Allure is less expensive by about $300, but it is 2 days shorter.

Were sailing on the Quantum April 24th. Im so happy to read your good comments and I too am keeping an open mind. Something different.. Tonight were going to finish booking dining and shows. Do you have any advise to give us since you've been there? We would appreciate that so much.

I'd spend $300 for 3 extra days in a heartbeat. But i wouldn't sail out of a northern port unless it was a TA. YMMV

I was on the Quantum in late Jan. Loved it. Been on the Oasis and Allure loved them too. I liked the flexible dining option. Kinda a hassle to sign up for each night. But we went directly to one of the dining halls and they helped us sign up each night. Faster than doing it your self with their services .

I won't be going back to N.J. in Jan, or Feb. ever. I am from Ohio and I want to get out of cold weather right off the bat. We had 2 days going and 2 days coming back were too cold to be on the top deck. Wind was awful. It will be Fla. from now on. That was our only complaint.

We loved all the new high tech on the Quantum. We didn't have time to do everything we wanted to do. Maybe if we had less time in the casino we could of got to do more. And yes we won probably over $1000. between my husband and I. No we didn't come home with a profit but we played on their money most of the time. If you are a casino person you understand.

Love the entertainment.

I won't be going back to Carnival any time soon. Once you do RC you won't go back to Carnival. I can't speak about the other cruise lines.

The showers were bigger on the Quantum than Oasis. That was a big plus.

No you won't regret going on the Quantum unless it is Jan. and 3 ft of snow to deal with to get there. And winds for 2 days. But that is any ship leaving out of N.J.
