Teen on Celebrity Silhouette

We are just now booking our Spring Break cruise. It's our daughters senior year and want it to be special for her. She will be just shy of 18 and her friend is 19. We have cruised on RCCL, NCL and Carnival. However, we are all wanting to try Celebrity.

I have heard that Celebrity is not geared towards teens. They probably wouldn't use a teen club, but I was wanting some opinions on whether we should pick a different cruise line. Are there a lot of teens/kids on Celebrity?

I apologize is this has been addressed before. I scrolled through the threads and didn't see anything.

Thanks for any help!

Not a lot of teens but significantly more families during Spring Break time. The teen club is as you said not a good fit, but my teen grandkids were just fine on Millennium two years ago. They both hung out together and with a few friends they met.

If your girls will be happy around the pool, enjoy good food and you arrange some good excursions off ship for them they will have a great time. If you feel they need 24/7 entertaining then RCCL would provide more.

If you want to make the girls break even better consider buying them a pass for Persian gardens (unless you are already booked in Aqua class where it is included). Our son has cruised with us on both RCCL and Celebrity. As a young teen he enjoyed RCCL but as he got older he enjoyed the more relaxed atmosphere of X.

It may be worth logging onto your roll call to see if anyone else is traveling with young adults...

We took our son, who was 20 at the time, on the Silhouette 3 years ago during his Christmas break from college. The cruise was not Christmas or New Years week so it did not have the influx of parents with young kids yet. I actually felt sorry for him for the first few days having to hang out with us old fogies. Years earlier he loved the the kids and later the teen clubs on cruises. About 2nd or 3rd day he met up with some others his own age and in a similar situation (on college Christmas break) and he had a ball. I believe it was about 10 or 12 of them and Celebrity Activity staff did put some activities together for them. Never saw him other then for dinner, tours and to go to bed. The group was international, not only from the States and Canada, but from So Africa and UK. He still keeps in contact with a few of them.

Thanks for all the responses! We already booked in early December, prior to all the great replies to my question. I hope we don't regret this. Two years ago we did a cruise on RCCL and the girls loved it, but they still seemed to want to hang out with us.

Since it's our daughters senior spring break, we narrowed the cruises down to 3 and let her pick. She kept picking the Celebrity Silhouette cruise. So we decided to book it. I told her there may not be many young people and she still wanted to go on this cruise. I am hoping that since it is spring break, maybe we will get lucky and there will be more older teens.

Thanks again for all the help!

I wish you good luck. The problem with our cruise with Silhouette was that there were really only 2 ports. Late teens tend to get bored as there is really not much to do, especially with the recent cutbacks. Our daughter really loved the Royal Caribbean line as there were many others her age and lots to do. Also, a higher energy level.

I hope all works out. Good luck!

at that age they will be bored out of their skulls on Celebrity and the 19 yo will be barred from all teen club activities anyway

pick a line that has a vibrant evening and late night atmosphere or one that has a ton of bells and whistles( like the megaships of Royal)

All above posters correct. Go RCL. Pick newest, largest ship.Nothing worse than being on wrong ship. You can always go later with hubby.A beautiful ship.

I am surprised the OP is allowing the teen to make the decision on which ship to take.

Older teens are typically bored out of their minds on Celebrity. Not much to do for them. Our teen was happy on the RCL line and that was a great decision. We all had a great vacation.

We did Celebrity Constellation last spring (5 day--2/3 spring breakers!) & our 19YO & 16YO had a blast. Never went to the teen club. They enjoy hanging with us--at the pool, dining, shows, trivia. But they also ran around together when we were at the casino (19YO played a bit but he had little extra $!) or when they just wanted to hang together.

On Princess a couple years ago over NYE they met a bunch of other teens (again, rarely went to the teen club on that on either--the few times they went the event had been cancelled before it even had a chance to start; apparently if teens weren't there 15 min. early they cancelled. Hmmm...teens are ALWAYS late!)

Because there are 2 of them, they always have each other to keep themselves busy. Plus you are sailing a larger ship (we will be on Silouette, too!) & over spring break. AND there are 4 ports. They will be fine!

A friend from work is just back from the RCCL Anthem. While he loved the cruise, he said there was a waiting line for the activities sometimes up to an hour and it wasn't even a holiday week. My daughter and I were on NCL Breakaway last year for Easter break (16 yo) and she didn't even use the kids club at all. She met people in the hot tub and hung out the rest of the week. She is not really that outgoing either. For that reason I booked the Silhouette for next year during college spring break for my 17 and 20 yo. The 20 yo also requested we give Celebrity a try.The kids will be fine. Relax and they will find their own way. There are hot tubs, unlimited food and ice cream, shows and an excursion or two. What else does a kid/young adult need.? Back in the day we were happy to go camping:eek:

Silhouette is a great ship with a young vibe....even when it has older pax.

They can enjoy the spa, Persian Gardens, hot tubs, mani pedis...facials. All relaxing. Gym is excellent,.....has daily classes (upcharge) afternoon pool games..Active excursions.,.zip lines, segway, ATV and jeep tours...no reason to be bored,

Not going to be as active as the big Royal ships but less crowded and more upcale, I would not worry.

We did the Silhouette for a week with four older teens in December of 2015 (my two girls and two nephews). We kept them active in port and only had two sea days but they were bored in the evenings and on sea days. Even though the only other cruise we had been on was the Radiance of the Seas, my girls agreed that it was a better fit for them than the Silhouette.

Thanks for writing this - We are on Reflection this XMAS and NYE for the 11 night cruise with our 22 year old son who will be home from college. It will be our 10th cruise. I am hoping that there is a small group like you describe that he can hang with. He is super social so I am less concerned but would love us all to have fun!

As it was previously mentioned, the kids will not be of legal drinking age on board. Be careful not to be tempted to slip them some alcoholic drinks. Celebrity is very strict about this policy and it could mean expulsion from the ship for the family at the next port.
