Just Curious...

We sail the silhouette In a few weeks. Our first port of call is San Juan. We dock at 3:30pm. - it's Winter and it gets dark at 5:30. Just wondering why a cruise line would consider this to be a good idea for its passengers

May as well be a sea day, it's going to feel like one

It was years ago but we docked in San Juan at night when we were on our honeymoon. It was already dark when we went exploring. OMG -- we had such a great time. Not sure how safe it was but went jewelry shopping for our wedding bands (we did that backwards ... married first, rings later) and then met up with some friends we were cruising with and had a most marvelous dinner with cocktails. It was a blast!

If you like to take photos it is also a great time of day for it. We were there for the first time at the end of November. It felt like a sea day for most of the day. However, as others have said there is a lot to explore in old town. Below are two photos I took.

I would agree with the others. We cruised out of SanJuan once and flew in late afternoon the day before and we had the best time exploring the town after dark! Stumbled onto a restaurant that was still packed at 9 pm and had the best Caribbean meal ever! Have fun!

We spent a few days in SJ pre cruise and did enjoy. We did, however, find it quite crowded and the sellers a bit much! Don't get me wrong, nothing unpleasant but just walking about was quite hard work. Also beware of pickpockets as in all crowded places, someone in our hotel had phone, purse and camera taken from her bag, didn't see or feel them go....It is very pretty at night!

We did find a happy solution though in the horse drawn carriage rides. All the pleasure of the hustle and bustle but you are just above it! X does this as an excursion or you can do it independently. We booked through X to ensure the animals were well cared for, we had read on the internet that some are not...so be careful.

Absolutely magnificent place to explore. The fort before dark and the nearby old town after. Am jealous.

+1 for sure, been to San Juan 2 and always do the fort then out for a few drinks in oldtown before a late dinner back on the ship

On New Year's Reflection cruise we got off went to a rooftop bar had mufongo, mojitos and sangria as the sunset. Beautiful. Made our way back to ship and brought some snacks up to the sunset bar sat there for an hour or so and then enjoyed on of the most beautiful sail aways in the Caribbean.
