What do you do on sea days?

Sea days usually include breakfast and lunch in the dining room, and the latter almost always includes wine. We fill the day with walking and a work out, maybe some time in a pool, always a hot tub visit, time sitting side by side on the Promenade Deck and watching the water and reading. Sometimes I'll attend a crafting activity and if there is a lecture that interests us we'll do that, too. And I love starting my blog post for the day prior to 10pm. That's the BEST!

Pray a bit ( then that's my nice job), Talk a bit, eat a small bit, drink a nice red a bit, chill out a bit, sleep a bit. Then that's what's it's all about. Ah well that's cruising.:)

It was the thought of sea days that always made us a little bit wary of cruising, but we actually now look forward to a day or two at sea. You can have a lie-in, before taking a leisurely breakfast (always taking the stairs up to HC though,in-fact a little bit of exercise around the prom never goes amiss - especially in Alaska, quite bracing!) I blog for a hobby and so I tend to grab a quiet spot (outside or in), headphones glued to ears and type away all day - anti-social is my middle name - and grab a jar mid-afternoon. Really enjoy the peace and solitude! But there's loads of stuff going on - even if it's all a little cheesy for my tastes - the truth is you can do as much or as little as you like...

A sea day is a day to truly rest and enjoy doing nothing but read and enjoy being on the water!

How long does it take you to walk 4 miles? We walk for 30 -40 minutes but then I get bored. At home at the mall we walk for an hour and go through the dept stores too so the scenery keeps changing.

 

For most I think each mile would be about 15 to 20 minutes. It depends on how the body feels that day as to how fast I walk...😉! I wear a Fitbit, and average about 12,500 steps a day, with 20,000 or more if I'm in port walking a lot. Sea days are wonderful for laps on the Promenade deck. You can get so caught up in the sight and sound of the sea, the walk is really very relaxing!! There are dozens of things to do so you definitely won't get bored!!

Sleep in, breakfast with IC coffee, walk jogging track and then Sun and swim. We recently tried the Sanctuary and loved it. Also a little nap before dinner is a must. :)

I love sea days, I use my Patter and join in as many things as I can, I can't just sit and relax as I feel I might be missing something interesting :D

Sea days are a gift, the more the better! We have always said We could get on a ship and as long as they got us where we couldn't see land, they could just sail in circles and we wouldn't care! When we were still working it was the only time you felt you truely relaxed! Now we can relax anytime but never more so than when we are on a ship! 51 days, I have loaded my kindle and just look forward to reading and hearing the ocean as I do it. DH likes to walk (I can't walk long distances any more and use a scooter) so he will walk laps and then come back and nap in the chair next to mine! After his nap, discussion about where to have lunch (or dinner) and what to do that evening after dinner....MUTS? Music? Show? So many choices....how lucky are we all for the opportunity to be there on a ship?

Their are many things to do. How ever sometime it's nothing wrong with doing 'nothing'

Play bingo, slot tournament, read on balcony, swim, thermal suite, walk laps, lounge by the pool, shop in the boutiques, trivia, game shows, movie outside, eat, eat, eat, see a show, and finish with a late night at the club.

I love laps on the Promenade. But I think I've most enjoyed just sitting on my balcony pretending to read and watching the flying fish come off the bow wave. :)

Gym, eat, trivia, slot/blackjack tournaments, poker, blackjack, walk laps, people watch, sit in a lounge chair and watch the waves, look for wildlife, nap, read, listen to music, explore the ship, attend Meet and Mingle, play board games, play games on phone, watch movie, eat again, it's been a while.

Maybe just me, but sea days keep me so busy that I hardly have time to take a nap!

Sea days are the best: rest on a deck chair. If your ship has deck chairs on promenade deck (Sapphire does) you will love being there. Trivia. Read (get an eReader and stock up). Crafts: knitting, x-stitch, crochet, take a class. Eat, MUTS. Swim, sit in the jacuzzi, get a massage. Be as active or inactive as you want.

 

I love sea days so much that I now purposefully book cruises that are as close to 50-50 sea days vs port days.

One person's boredom can be another's nirvana. DW and I simply love sea days and routinely book long cruises (up to 2 months long) with lots of sea days. A recent cruise had 22 sea days (out of 55 days) and we would have been happy with a few more of those lazy sea days. But we have seen some passengers go crazy on sea days while others (like moi) have smiles planted on their faces :). DW and I prefer to do very little on sea days and spend a lot of time reading (we keep more then 100 books on our Kindles). If there are some decent lectures aboard (common on long cruises) we will often attend. But there are other passengers who keep very busy going from activity to activity. And then you have the game players (bridge, maj jong, etc.) who are in personal heaven just playing their games.

Our upcoming October trip is our first with 2 sea days in a row. I might lose my mind. The wife could sit on the balcony and read for a week. I have now lost 85 pounds and the lure of days of endless food, that I don't have to cook, will be daunting. I will have to hang out in the pool or maybe casino.

Sleep, get the pub lunch, read. If its after several days of shore excursions, I like to book a couples massage to work out the soreness. Possibly go through our pictures to figure out what we might want to buy.

I enjoy walking around the entire ship taking lots of photos with my Nikon DSLR practicing using manual mode. On our last TA cruise I took 2k photos including early morning still dark photos of the Statue of Liberty
